        • Yeah, I was already 3/4 of the way home through peak hour traffic, so no way i was going back 25 mins and then home another 45 mins through peak hour.

      • That's actually what I'm going to say.

it's close to 40kms return trip, plus my fuel.

If they want to send someone to collect, and drop my model off to me asap that's fine.

Is it okay to cancel the plan a few days after for $828? I know alot do it on the same day, so im concerned.

        • +1

Someone cancelled a few days afterwards and was billed for the whole first month.

So termination cost ended up being monthly repayment * 23 / 2

Not sure if Optus does pro-rata but best to cancel same day to avoid having to deal with Optus more than necessary.

          • +1

@CodeXD: Whats the best way to cancel?

I'm doing it via chat online, see how we go!

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Optus live chat is 24/7.

Otherwise you can also port out to a $2 sim.

              • +1

@CodeXD: Yeah, i'm doing that now.

Thank you for contacting Optus today. Before we start, have you been informed about the Optus cyberattack and any impacts to your account?

Agent is still going on about this? Is my Drivers License and Medicare details at risk even tho I signed up today? :|

Yes you will be getting a invoice mentioning your last bill chargers and the termination chargers in it.

Hopefully just the $828 as stated.

          • +1

@CodeXD: According to the CIS, you need to pay the charges up to the end of billing cycle.

"If you cancel your mobile plan, you’ll also have to pay all charges
incurred up to the end of the payment cycle in which the service was
            cancelled".

This means you may not pay the full $69 for the first month if you cancel before the end of billing cycle, but cancelling on the first day doesn't mean you pay nothing.

            • @aveeno bb: It seems they've told everyone the payout fee, but yes we could get charged a few extra dollars.

I cancelled within 2 hours of signing up, so we will see.

        • -1

Just go and sort it out today, and start using your phone lol.

I think you knew at the time they gave you the Wrong phone and didn't say anything.

Sometimes all this f around isn't worth the hassle and time to save an extra $2

          • @G-rig: Why would I waste 1.5 hours of my time and fuel to fix their issue? I'm not saving $2 mate, 1.5 hours of my time on OT is $100, and it's a 40km round trip which is like $7-8 in fuel.

How the hell did I know they gave me the wrong model?

They rang me, and told me they gave me the wrong model 25 minutes after I left.

The only way to tell is the barcode on the side, I didn't even open the box when I was with him.
It's the exact same phone, other than than storage size.

I can't use the phone, I have no charger for it or phone cover and protective screen. Unless you're a dumb ass that buys that at top price at Harvey Norman? 🤣

Go bury your head in the sand mate.

            • @[Deactivated]: Sorry maybe I read it wrong when you were advertising you got the 256gb version for free..

You could just wear the 150$ to keep that one as it's the upgrade from 128-256gb, sounds cheaper and easier for your time and effort if you can in fact then use the phone. Bit better resale too.

Suppose you will have to wait to get it resolved and hope they send a courier out with the new one. Just sounds like more effort and waiting, but your time is worth too much to go there, you'd blow the savings on fuel too. At least Google would send the new one out before asking for the old one back.

Just sounds like a massive head f k all this.. vouchers upon hacks this and that cancelling plans to get the absolute rock bottom price. Some people enjoy it I guess.

              • @G-rig: I'm ringing them today, and letting them know they can send someone Monday to drop off and collect.

                Otherwise, I'll be keeping it.

I'm paying, paid for a phone I currently can't use.

I'm a customer, it's not my duty to go out of the way to help them.

I'll do the right thing, give them an opportunity to collect and drop off.

But, really…I could of used the phone already.

Are they going to compensate me the 3 or 4 days I haven't been able to use a phone that I paid for, so I think the fact that I've waited is kind enough.

I actually never answer my phone!

But you're right, it's a pain! They should of just let me keep it.

                • @[Deactivated]: agree - nice if you just got to keep and use that one for the stuff around - which is what would usually be the case..
                  bit unlukcy

                  • @G-rig: I don't actually need it, it doesn't bother me too much if they actually come and swap it.

I just won't be going out my way, and it won't go past Monday.

I'm basically giving them a few days to organise it, because technically like I said I've paid and I'm losing now.

                    I called
Said they'd call me Monday to organise it.
I'm basically going to say they have that day to come, drop my model and collect.

I'm already without a phone, I can't believe they're actually going to waste their time and money doing this over $150 🤣

                    • @[Deactivated]: They could send you out the 128gb and you mail back the 256gb one to the store.

                      • @Agret: Why would I mail anything back?

                        Is my time free?

I have to waste 20 mins driving to a post office for them?

I don't think so, tomorrow they'll ring me and I'll tell them to send someone straight away.

If not, I'm using the phone.

I paid Thursday, and I can't even use the god dam phone!

I'm not going out of my way, they send someone to hand me my phone and collect this one tomorrow.

To be honest, to pay for something and not being able to use it at no fault of your own isn't fair.

I rang Saturday, and they said they'd have to ring me Monday.
If they don't ring, too late.

                      • @Agret: That's what usually happens.. if you bought from Google..Easy.

Surely going to a post office somewhere on one's travels, isn't a massive inconvenience to solve this problem. 20 minutes seems worthwhile, easy to spend hours a day sitting on ozbargain lol

                        • @G-rig: I'm in here anyways 🤣

They haven't even called me yet!
If they don't call today, I'm using it.

                          It's been 4 days now, I can't even use a phone I paid for.

The point is, I don't owe them anything. They have to go out of their whole way to get this phone back and give me the correct one and that means simply sending an employee from the retail store to drive the 1.5 hour round trip and it's a done deal.

Why would I wait for them to post me the new phone and possibly could take days or a week with Australia Post, furthermore they have to pay postage and insurance and by the time you factor the cost of that it's probably the same as the 150 dollar upgrade.

                          • @[Deactivated]: good luck, just don't leave without one you can use immediately..
to be fair, going in there is the best way, hopefully get on with your life shortly :).

The posting was more of a comment about how things work if you had have purchased from Google directly. Still 2-3 days wait no doubt.

you still get the 128-256gb upgrade anyway, so you don't really lose $150.

                          • @[Deactivated]: Yep. I would also start using it if you don't hear from them today with a suitable outcome

                            • @Whatisthatvelvet: Nearly 2pm, and no call yet.

I honestly thought they'd call first thing in the morning to organise drop off/pick up.

I actually rang Saturday and mentioned I wanted this done by Monday. They told me the person would ring me Monday, and nothing yet.

I think it's fair for me to begin using the phone tomorrow.

      • +1

Possession is 9/10th of the LAW! YES, they can ASK, but NO they cant force you and two, its not NEW NOW so its really pointless for them to anyway ~ they just will eat the difference or play on you to pay the difference (about $150)

    • You should’ve just said that you already opened and activate the phone. There will be nothing that they can do.

      • They called me 25 mins after I left, I was driving!

I might tell them I opened it In the car, but haven't used it. So seal is broken, just to annoy them!

I'm only giving them to Monday, at a set time.

I'm not waiting for a courier unless they want to pay me an hourly rate.

  • Does cancelling the contract affect credit score?

    • Can't imagine it affecting your credit score as long as you pay off the final invoice. I would say this goes as a query on your credit file but I'm no authority to give you a definitive answer.

  • +1

Quick question - I have an existing postpaid plan with Optus, so can't get this deal unless I get a new number.

Is it possible to port my current number to Telstra pre-paid, and then go into a HN store and sign up to this plan as a port in?

Is there any time limit between porting out and then back in with Optus?

    • +1

This is what I'll be having a shot with doing as well. I've tried doing some looking around for time limits and I can't see anything legit about it. Some posts around have something like "ohh you have to stay with your carrier for 90 days before you can port again" but there's nothing legit to back this up.
I did ask Optus about it a few times and got some varied and useless responses - most said I had to go in store. One of the more helpful ones did say "please don't do that as it creates circular cancellation" but I couldn't tell you wtf that means.

      • +1

Circular cancellation could mean if you port back too soon (ie, they are still finalising the cancellation on their end after the port), then it could mean that you have a cancellation/order happening at the same time for your existing number. Just a guess though.

        • +2

Yeah that's a good point. Might be worth ringing them up afterwards and ensuring the new plan doesn't get cancelled.

    • To keep your existing Optus number:

Call Optus and ask them to switch your plan to prepaid. You will need to pay out any cancellation fees on your current post paid plan (I was month to month so $0 exit fee) Tell them you'd like to retain your existing number and sim card for business purposes

Once you're prepaid, head over to your local HN store and sign up on the plan with your existing number and sim.

FYI I'm a tight ass and didn't buy credit so once I left my WiFi network at home to go HN I had no internet.

    • A quick update in case you hadn't done it yet, I switched to Telstra pre-paid Friday which was processed first thing Saturday morning, then I went in store and got signed up on Monday and had my number switched again straight away. No problems at any point and then port was completed pretty much immediately during business hours.

Upgraded to the 256gb for an extra $150 (rang up wrong in their system because it was basing the different on a discounted 128gb phone instead of in store price).

Honestly you could probably do this all same day with how quick the porting went through.

  • Managed to cancel sim plan easily through Optus Chat, had to download the app to do so though since web browser wasn't working for me.

Asked the agent if there were any ways to pay for the $828 early as the invoice could take between 2-3 weeks to arrive. The agent said you could go to https://www.optus.com.au/paymybill and pay however much you wanted, and the amount paid would be subtracted from the full invoice when it comes later.

Planning to purchase 3x $250 Coles Mastercards and instantly pay a sum of the $828, just to be safe from the chance of finding out the Coles cards are hacked later on

    • How do you use multiple cards via online?

I figured you'd have to do it over the phone.

    • Update: Just had a chat with live agent, saying that Coles gift cards were not accepted. Seems like I'll be looking at other options on spending the gift cards instead

      • Coles gift card will obviously not work.

You should ask about doing split payment between different mastercards.

Your link above looks like it will work for what you want, but you will need to manually work out the actual 'amount to be paid' by taking into consideration the card surcharge.

        • Yeah, when I get my invoice I will call and do split payment between different MasterCards! I don't think there will be a surcharge, or an issue.

          • +2

            @[Deactivated]:

I don't think there will be a surcharge

It is in the footnote of your optus link lol

Unless your account is paid by direct debit, any payments made via credit, debit or charge cards incur a 0.336% (incl. GST) payment processing fee. The fee will appear on the next account after the bill is paid. For more information visit www.optus.com.au/payments

            • @CodeXD: .3% fee is very low, not even a couple bucks overall. 👌

          • @[Deactivated]: Are you also planning to pay using the Coles gift cards, or are you paying using seperate bank debit/credit cards? Was initially planning to pay with the Coles gift cards but still a bit hesitant with the off chance of hacked cards

            • +2

@AV1: They're not gift cards, prepaid MasterCards.

I'm planning on paying with 3, then the rest on my debit.

The fees are small, and over the phone it shouldn't be an issue.

  • When I went in to HN to ask about this deal they said it was only a 700$ gc + the bonus 150$ HN gc so it was still a 449 upfront cost?

    • Not cheap enough?

      • ? It's a 449$ difference lolz. May as well buy from the google store directly.

        • Trade in or selling old one makes the difference i guess. still good with the GC, bonuses etc.
selling the google stuff from JB for $150.. worth 250 but no one will buy it for that..
          All good enough

  • Looking at the optus information for all 3 stores it seems they pulled the P7P out and it's just the 700 gc everywhere? Only the Z Flip4 deal for no upfront cost still remains :/

    • This deal is in store only - not advertised online at Harvey Norman (you also won't find details on Optus or Google store). I went in and asked about the deal to the closest one and the employee I was asking had no idea of the deal and kept looking online. I rang up another store and they knew exactly what I was asking about.

      • I went in store too and asked specifically for it, but employee didn't know about it and just said the 700 + 150 gc deal.

When I say online, I mean if you go on optus for any of the stores you'll find this page for a breakdown on some of the devices: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/optus-byo#sectionVoiceSixtyF…

Like the Z Flip4 clearly says the full 1499$ device value is discounted, but the P7P is missing from this page (it's the same page for JM and Domayne). Seems strange that they'd list the Flip but not the P7P unless they recently pulled it? I might've actually got the Flip over it if battery life wasn't an issue.

I just saw this deal like 2-3 days ago and went in today at a single HN store near me, didn't try any of the others.

  • I got it today around 4PM and no issues at all. The deal is until 31st Oct and was also advertised in the store.

    • Weird, maybe I'll try a different store. Was there actually a pamphlet/poster for it somewhere? All I saw was the 700 one and when I mentioned to the rep that the P7P deal should be different he had no idea.

  • Can anyone recommend a good case / cover and screen protector for this phone?

    • +2

Pro gadgets on eBay, I got a spigen rugged armour for the Pixel 7, take your pick out of their range though:

      https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_dkr=1&iconV2Request=true…

Got a 3 pack AmFilm protectors from Amazon.

Pretty good combo without being expensive, the Google case looks ok too.

      • Thank you :)

      • Btw quite a few negative reviews on AMfilm prtector on Amazon!

        • +1

Yes mostly because they didn't advertise they were for the 7 not the 7 pro originally (have fixed it now).
Just check any other phone, for example

Would still prefer a circle cut out to a u-shape but good to put one on straight away regardless they & were pretty cheap.

i've had them on previous phones since about the Pixel 1. There are other brands just have to find a sweet spot for quality/cost.

Anyway wouldn't mind some better ones but no guarantee they would even improve the fingerprint scanner problem.
More to do with software so hopefully updates will sort it over time.

          • @G-rig: I'm looking at this listing, people mainly complaining about bubbles forming and difficulty installing:

            https://www.amazon.com.au/amFilm-Protector-Fingerprint-Compa…

            • @deals4amar: They prob stuffed it up.
Just get whatever works, or go to those shops and they'll put one on.
The good thing with a 3 pack is you got spares if you bodge it up.

Don't forget the 7 pro has curved edges too, another reason why I got the 7.

    • +1

Can't go wrong with Pro Gadgets on eBay. Anything Spigen is worth you money.

I went to HN Castle Hill yesterday, signed up the plan for 128G white (last one of 128G) plus $150 gift card. Cause I am an existing Optus customer, it was pretty easy to add a new account under my name.

Logged in to my account and chat with agent. No problem to cancel the plan and will receive an invoice ($828) in next few days. Thanks OP.

    • I'm assuming you're ok with them providing a new number? Unless you did what I did and kept the same number.

      • Oh, I just asked for a new number cause I wanted to cancel the plan. They can't put the number under same account, new account but still under my name. If I logged in via computer, I can switch the account between my existing account and new account, but I can't do that via Optus App.

  • I did this in store today for the pro 256gb but was asked to pay a difference of $250. The price difference online is $150 as others have mentioned here. Have they made a mistake ?

    • Sounds like it. I guess that would still be a saving of $371. A decent bargain I suppose.

    • The difference is only $150, not $250. They're wrong!

  • I think the cost Optus is charging me is $69 + ($69 x 23)/2 = $862.5
That is the cost up to the end of the current billing cycle, plus half of the remaining contract cost (23 months after the first one).

    • First month charge may not be the full $69 if your billing cycle is already half way in, for example.

      • Hopefully. The optus cancellation guy I spoke to said it's the full first billing cycle + 23 months termination fee but they haven't sent me the final invoice yet so it might end up being different.

  • Hey guys,

So I was already on a post paid month to month with optus sim only plan @ $65 p/m but I really wanted to upgrade from my subpar Pixel 4a 5G.

I didn't want to outlay $1000 plus trade in from the JB Deal and I'm happy with my current plan with Optus, so technically this deal was a no brainer at $0 upfront and $69 p/m.

I had to call Optus retentions team and because my post paid was month to month it mean there were no cancellation fees. I then told them I wanted to switch to Prepaid. I made sure I kept my existing number and existing physical sim card and they said no problem.

Because this deal is classified as a new post paid plan, it would mean I'm eligible since now I'm prepaid, regardless of carrier. And I got to keep my existing number! So I rocked up to HN on Friday, signed up and got my new Snow Pixel 7 Pro, $150 GC and only paying $4 extra p/m which I'm happy about.

I didn't mind a contract because I've had previously been contracted to optus before it rolled over to month to month and they have no issues other than the hack (which they confirmed numerous times only my number and name was hacked).

So yes it is possible to get this plan if you are an existing Optus post paid customer and retain your number IF you are month to month and you must switch to prepaid first before signing up with this plan.

    Hope this helps.

    • Why not just get a new number then cancel it?

      • That would be too easy

      • +1

Because they didn't want to pay the ETC?

  • Received my final invoice today even though cancelled day one cost $839.50 just to give a rough idea. Still happy with the cost.

    • Interesting… Not sure how they came up with that figure lol

      I got to 69*23/2 = $793.5

Most people had to pay $69 for first month = $862.5

But weirdly you got prorated $46? Either way, a good price.

    • I cancelled 2 hours after I signed up, so it'll be interesting to see.

      • Yeah my extra costs were summed up as 5 days usage according to the bill this is what it had .

        19 Oct to 23 Oct $69 Gift Card Voice Plan ($69 * 5 days) $11.50

It's not worth fighting considering price

        • +2

          looks at ozbargain membership card

          You're right, not worth fighting

          Hands over yellow card ;)

        • Did you use it for 5 days?

        • +1

I see, they double charged you for that $11.50. But a small sum to not have to deal with optus or HN.

          Not worth fighting about it.

  • 793 plus gift card - cant go wrong :)

    • Weird how so many people are getting different quotes…

    • +1

Need to pay the prorated first month usage.

      • Yup so turns out to be $793 + 69.

      • I mean how they got quoted 793 instead of 828. My partner also got quoted 793

        • Because you still need to pay for the charges up to the end of billing cycle, which is maximum $69. This can be lower if you started the plan in the middle of billing cycle.

          • @aveeno bb: In the T&C's, the minimum ETC is $828.
Partner and I signed up at the same time. My ETC was quoted $828 and hers $793.

@Strykex: Your partners etc was calculated based on 23 months, and on top she will be billed for the first month usage $69 X number of days left in the billing cycle ÷ number of day in the month (31)

              • @aveeno bb: How do you know when the billing cycle is? It doesn't appear to be when you sign up cos someone cancelled on the same day and was charged for 5 days.

                • @CodeXD: You can in the My Optus app. For example, mine currently says 16 days to go, and I can check how much the termination fee is in my plan details $793.50. so I will use the plan for another 15 days and port over. This is because I will be billed for that 16 days regardless if I port out now or 15 days later as per terms and conds.

        • Pretty similar wouldn't stress.
Just Pro rated first month bill

  • Peope here not realizing the pro rata is depending on when your regular plan is meant to roll over.

    • Regular plan? What if we got it on a new number?

  • Just went to HN and asked about cancellation fees, they told me that Termination fees + Phone cost :
    ($69 x 24)/2 + $69= $897 + Remaining Phone cost (1299 / 24 = 54.125)
Means we need to pay Termination fees + Phone cost

Can someone please confirm if anyone experienced this?

People here have already received their cancellation charges and it is definitely just for cancelling the plan. The phone is being offered as $0/month on a 24 month plan. Just scroll through all comments and you'll see what I'm saying.

    • The phone is basically offered as a replacement for $700 gift card.

  • Just to confirm this takes a physical sim card.
    and
    Is not locked to Optus?

So after cancelled I can pop my boost sim in?

    • Yes

      • Amazing deal! I just cancelled my plan via chat and confirmed I just have to pay $793.50 exit fee..

I let them know I wasn't able to pay in full and they just said to let me know when I get my invoice I can pay them back per month.. Some of these deals are definitely hacks when they are this good ✌️

  • Just tried to cancel, they are saying i need to return to the harvey norman store to cancel?
