There it is, the 'German made' line. It's a washing machine or a dishwasher or some other appliance, not a pacemaker. Appliance country of origin "…it’s wise not to judge the quality of an appliance purely on where it was made". Surely you'd be aware that the 'German made' advertising is to push higher margin products.
I own a 'Turkish made' dishwasher that hasn't skipped a beat in a family containing school kids.Where is OP's one made though? PRC? I'd hazard there's a difference between stuff made in the EU and Korea vs PRC.
Yeah nah. I'll take the opinion of an experienced repairman and my own anecdotal experience over a completely unsubstantiated quote from a journalist with no sources.
All my higher end German/European made white-goods have lasted 3-5x as long as my cheaper Chinese whitegoods, and that's the same experience for basically everyone I know. Sure, there's more to it than just where it's made, but it's a certainly an accurate line of delineation.
I have my front loader from LG for nigh on 17 years. replaced a couple of seals for the front door buts that's it.
Wouldn't touch a Samsung white good for any money, TV's OK, phones maybe.
I've had a samsung washer last for 10 years. They are ok if you are handy as they are pretty serviceable and parts are quite available. Its now probably nearly time to replace but Its still going strong though.
If you not handy, buy a bosch probably.
My experience:-
My detergent holder leaks water. The remedy for this is to turn the connected tap down to reduce the pressure. It works but can be annoying to find the sweet spot. I can understand why this would be a deal breaker for some. Especially if you dont have a floor drain in your laundry.
They have a brushed DC motor. My brushes wore out on mine at about 8 years. The new brushes were under $10 from memory. It would have been good to say change the brushes at about 6-7 years that way the commutator would not have been as knocked around. But mine cleaned up OK with fine sandpaper.
They are not direct drive so driven by a belt which is replaceable. My belt has never worn out.I think the main issue is with them is as above they need that maintenance at around the 5-7 year mark. And a repair guy is going to charge you $300 to do something minor. And if your paying that it more sense to buy a brand new one.
Thanks OP, pulled the trigger. The Mr just approved.
Damn just bought 8.5kg one. Could have saved $100..
I’ve read a fair bit saying that Samsungs are pretty good now. Just under Bosch & LG
Great price, although longevity is questionable on these imho
I had a similar (mid range on steep discount) Samsung washer die just outside the warranty period, repairman who looked at said it wasn't economically repairable and these are built to be throwaway items. "Buy German made or re-buy every 3-5 years".
