Credit Card Churners, How Do You Pay Things That Are Due While Your Card Is Arriving?

I’ve recently applied for a Citi credit card that requires a certain amount of spend until I am eligible for bonus points. The card will take a week to arrive but I have to make some purchases before then. What’s the best way to make those purchases so I can make it count towards the purchases? I wanted to use Bundll but it seems like they are not accepting new users.

I have Afterpay but I believe that’s only accepted at certain merchants. Can you use Zip Pay anywhere? Would I be able to sign up and use the virtual card and then pay off the balance using the credit card? Would that count as eligible spend?

  • I don't think you can activate the card until it arrives.

    • I can’t unless I am an existing customer which I’m not.

I’m talking about what BNPL options I can use that would count towards the eligible spend.

    • Depends on the company, some of them allow you to activate Apple Pay first and that’s how I make my purchases. I recently got a Commonwealth Bank card and had to wait until I received the card.

When you were approved were you notified you could use a virtual version of the card? I've only ever come across this once. I think it was with Westpac and they provided a digital version of the card which once activated I was able to use immediately. All of my other cards have required I wait until the physical card arrived.

    • Same experience here. I cannot use the card until it arrives.

  • I use Zip and Bundll. Both work fine.

    • Can you use Zip anywhere or at certain stores? Does laying off Zip balance count towards eligible spend?

      • It works everywhere. Also in my experience does count towards eligible spend. I do a test of paying off like $10 to make sure it isn't counted as a cash advance or anything and make sure I get points for the spend.

  • Use another card then pay it off with the new one.

  • Bundll and Beam should work. although bundll has just $500 limit.
