    Costco online $279

    Good guys commercial $265

That said, does anyone have any experience with this thing?

    • +1

Don't own but have seen many favorable reviews.

I bought one a few weeks ago. Have made some truly delicious ice cream and sorbets with it.
Home-made coconut ice cream was a revelation. It's probably the best thing I've made yet, and it's just a can of coconut milk, some sugar and a dash of vanilla essence (or whatever other flavour you want to add.)

Having to freeze the mix a day before is a bit annoying, but it makes up for it by the fact that the machine itself only takes 90 seconds, maybe a bit longer if the consistency isn't what you were hoping for.

If you eat ice cream often and want to experiment, I'd say it's worth it.

THankyou for taking the time to write this

  • +4

But how much ice cream can you buy with 299??

    • +9

With inflation like it is, around a 5 litre tub?

    • +3

I exclusively buy the Keto/Protein/Low sugar icecream that costs around $10 per 500g tub when not on special. About 1 per week. It's a stupid addiction lol. So I can buy 30 or so tubs. Or I could buy this and make as much as I want, with the exact ingredients I want.

      • Do you have a list of the sugar free options? also what you prefered one?

        • +1

FroPro Salted Caramel and Choc (on sticks) are amongst the best.
There's also Twisted Licks, Salted Caramel and Choc. They're a bit more like paddlepops, but I love them.
The Denada is pretty good, but it can make you very farty, especially when you eat a whole tub. Damn xylitol.

      • You aren't in SEQ by any chance? There's a place between brissy and gc that sells halo top cheap af.

        • When i tried halo top a couple of years ago all it felt was like eating a lot of air. tillys was much better.

    • Denada.

  • I see it as $279 pickup with the ebay code, for those without TGGC

Just FYI, NC300 is the "5 in 1" version. NC301 is the "7 in 1" version.

NC301 adds a gelato and "smoothie bowl" setting (whatever that means), and also comes with an extra tub, I believe.

(Whether you can find the NC301 for a good price, and whether it's worth the extra, is up to you.)

    • +1

But Costco is selling the NC300 and it says 7 functions, including smoothie bowl, and comes with three tubs?

      • +1

CostCo often have incorrect information - see here, where the description and picture were of two completely different bikes, for different age ranges: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/683639

Whether CostCo is selling NC301 and have put the wrong model number, or they are selling NC300 and have copied the wrong description, is for soneone to confirm.

Has anyone purchased the Ninja Creami from CostCo?

      • +3

Actially, it looks like Ninja are selling the 7 in 1 wirh the same model number as the 5 in 1 model in Australia (NC300). So maybe they have just replaced the old model with the new one without changing the model number. 🤦‍♂️ (its NC301 in the USA)

The OP deal is definitely for the 5 in 1 version (both the Amazon and Bing Lee are the 5 in 1). But CostCo looks like it is the 7 in 1 version. You can check the photo of the functions.

Myer is also selling the 7 in 1 (with model number NC300), but at a much higher price. So it does seem to be an Australia wide "issue" of selling both models under the same model number. 🤦‍♂️

        • +1

That's weird. The description in Amazon says 7 in 1 and the pictures also show 7 in 1 (one photo in Amazon is of the 5 in 1 though). Ninja Kitchen Aus also shows 7 in 1 as the NC300:

@GreenLego: Ah yeah, you are right - the first picture that loads up is of the 5-in-1 - I didnt look any further than that. The other pictures are of the 7-in-1, and the description matches 7-in-1, so its probably the 7-in-1. (First picture must be from an old listing).

This is what happens when companies are not consistent with model numbers!!!

Fwiw, in the USA, NC300 is 5-in-1 and NC301 is 7-in-1. (And the new Deluxe 11-in-1 model is NC501). Originally we had the 5-in-1 model being sold in Australia under the model number NC300. It seems they have just kept selling it as NC300, but replaced it with 7-in-1 version! (They probably started importing the 5-in-1 model, and have now switched to the 7-in-1 model, and didn't want any confusion over having multiple versions, so kept the same model number. Which is stupid, when both models are being sold overseas with different model numbers!!)

@caprimulgus: Mine just arrived. I got the 7 in 1, and it came with 3 containers (or pints as they call them). I was kind of getting prepared to having only 1 container, so getting 3 was a relief.

              • +2

@GreenLego: I got mine from good guys commercial and also got the 7 in 1. I just made my first ice cream in it tonight and it was amazing. Easier and better than what I would get out of my Breville smart scoop. Volume is small in the tubs (500ml I think), so I can see that you will need to prepare a few of them if you were having a group or large family. We got 3 serves out of one tub.

                • @masuta: Thanks for the input! I wasn't prepared for the purchase so I have no fancy ingredients. I made some concentrated Milo and put it the freezer and I'll give it a spin tomorrow after 24 hours. I believe the tubs are 470ml? I don't really have space in the freezer for more than 1 anyway.

I wasn't happy with my Breville from a few years ago as I found it too fiddly.

Better off with a compressor unit like the Breville and delonghi. All these will require you to freeze the bowl over night

    • +2

Tell me you know nothing about what this is or how it works without telling me

For those who are interested, it works like this.

      • +1

I've made this exactly as James did (minus the Cherries but I did use cocoa powder) and it was SUPERB. First time using gums to be honest.

If James doesn't do it for you, this review might give you some ideas.

      • U freeze the mix over night and then this thing whisks it back up at various textures depending on blade speed.

With a compressor unit, I make the mixture blend it etc and then straight in and 30mins later I have my ice cream, gelato, froyo etc all at the right texture too.

        • -4

          We know that. You didn't.

          • +1

@GrueHunter: I did mate. You can enjoy your ice cream 24 hrs later. Meanwhile I already had mine 40 mins later

        • +2

I have the Breville smart scoop, it’s not 30 minutes to make ice cream. First I find you need to chill your mixture (the colder it is the better the ice cream turns out), then 10 minutes pre cool, then on average 50 minutes to make ice cream. It’s normally quite soft at this stage and gets put into the freezer to get it to the consistency you want. I’ve looked at the pacojet lots of time but could never justify 11K. I’m happy to give this a go for $265.

    • Looks like it could complement a compressor unit to provide improved texture.

      • Play around with ratios of corn syrup, sugar (and diff blends of sugar) and you will get the right texture with your compressor unit.

        • +1

I don't use sugar, corn syrups, etc - generally just use fruit for flavour - so anything that improves texture without having to rely on those is a plus for me.

  • +1

I got a $70 churner from Amazon and can make about a litre at a time, been enjoying making flavours and the ice creamery subreddit is loaded with ideas. $300 seems steep for an ice cream maker. I know you have to freeze the bowl but it's not a big deal really just keep it in the freezer until you wanna make ice cream.

  • +1

This is a pacojet, have not yet used one of these but it's definitely not limited to ice-cream. Movida make a lovely anchovy on toast with a tomato sorbet with a pacojet. I would put money on decent margaritas from this thing too

    • +1

It’s similar to a pacojet, but I doubt it will have the durability or refinement of a pacojet. Then again a pacojet costs $11,000, so I’m happy to give this a go and see how good it can be for less than $300.
