Seems an ok deal if you really need one. I note there should be a new announcement just around the corner for the Surface Duo 3.

From the website:

Surface Duo 2 for Business - Open two screens and discover limitless possibilities in the moment, wherever you are, with lightning-fast 5G. Surface Duo 2 for Business is more than a phone, with an expansive view that enables you to compare and contrast content across Microsoft 365 apps, work in two apps side-by-side, and naturally write ideas on screen.

Them peripherals are stunningly expensive. A pen for $189.95?

The 256gb one is $1,417.87 - same link just select different config.

Don't forget Cashback.

There won't be a surface Duo 3 this year it will be a software update for this device and probably the relaunch at this new price point

  • Any trade it deals?

  • pen for $189.95?

Still better than Apple Pencil 2. :’)

Amex has $500 spend $100 cash back ends 15/11/22 first 6000 customers

  • Which market is this aimed for?

    • People whose bullshit detector goes off whenever Tim Cook speaks

Yes this “phone” is much better than my three year old iPhone

  • Is Cashrewards 10% ?

    • Hmm hard to say if this would qualify as the T&C's stipulate no phones. S20 was sold on the site before, and it could just mean that. With this falling under the Surface brand.

Would be nice to get some confirmation! .

Cashback is ineligible on: Minecraft & Minecraft in-app purchases, Band, Phones, Services & Accessories, Xbox Custom Controllers from Xbox Design Labs, Windows Mixed & Virtual Reality, Developer/Visual Studio, Windows & other software not listed on this site, gift card purchases.

    • It seems to be on my pop-up.

  • Who “ really needs” this thing lol

While i would love to get one, it just doesn't make sense value wise. Pretty much updated hardware, no outer display. still over $1K

    • *outdated

Yeah. I agree generally but those who have them and use as a Microsoft business tool seem to like them.

  • Tempting. I am rooting for Microsoft to do really well in the mobile device market, but this one just does not cut it. The design looks awkward with the gap in between, bezels are too big in comparison to phones of the same price point, aspect ratio a bit too wide, cameras need some work, and the OS needs some polish. And that sucks because the whole concept of split screens is the only thing I love about it. I just hope Microsoft executes these well.

    • 100%. I applaud Microsoft for trying out these "niche" categories.. same can't be said about Apple (coming from a massive fanboy).

I actually prefer Microsoft's approach to split screens but their current implementation makes taking photos a pain and like you said, the bezels and OS needs a lot of work.

I've just had two days use of the Duo 1 (256gb from Amazon US for $650aus) and it is an intriguing device. Software has come a long way from launch - now smooth and not glitchy. I had seen and read reviews that say the main functionality of this device is as two screens operating separately like laptop with a monitor - my experience is that yes that is strangely true. Finding myself using it in ways that don't seem like a phone at all, having two apps open side by side on two usefully sized screens. Even the bezels aren't bothering me now. Not sure it stay my daily driver, but certainly an interesting and fun secondary device.

    • That's interesting. So on any given day, how would you have it setup? What apps are open?

Over the last few days I've had pairings like outlook + banking app, spotify + browser/news feed, browser + onenote, password manager + anything, outlook + onenote, youtube + browser/news feed… having this side by side functionality is surprisingly useful compared to switching back and forth on a normal phone screen. Maximising an app across can be hit or miss depending on the app - Microsoft apps like Outlook or Onenote work very well (in Outlook with email list on the left and reading pane on the right is a game changer.
Also Kindle spread across the two screens is a joy - closest thing to true electronic book.

  • Can anyone advise how useful excel is on this? For it to be of use to me, I need it to be able to function as it would on desktop, linked spreadsheets with formulas etc

  • No wireless charging is a big no for me

    • +1

Not having a go at you, but I don't understand why?
Wireless charging is slower and more inefficient.
If you're going to walk to it and lay it on the charging pad, might as well plug it in?

      • Stuff like car charger cradles are infinitely better being able to drop you phone in and have it charge rather than have a cable dangling on your dash all the time that you have to plug in.

And the last two phones I have had has died due to the usb port failing from constant plugging in and out throughout the day.

QI charging has also gotten much quicker in the past year or so with much higher wattage.

The only time I plug my phone in is at night and that is only because I don't have a qi pad there. Instead I have to find where the cable inevitably dropped down between the bed and side table.

I did think they were overrated until I started using them and now, I wouldn't go back.
