  • Wireless N 300Mbps network speeds

Not much point when it only has 100MBit ethernet ports.

    • Maybe if you had multiple sources (e.g. NAS, Computer running as a file server) on one of these wireless devices streaming concurrently to multiple destinations to the other wireless device (e.g. iPad, PVR, PS3)

      I know it's a long shot… but I know I'm looking for something similar.

      • well i bought it anyway, price seems decent, and since i was gonna buy the soup maker, might as well take advantage of the $10 shipping cap.

    • Who says you can't have 2 or 3 LAN cables connecting 2 TCP/IP devices?

      • You can, but you need to set them up with load-balancing/teaming software (or hardware), which can be a pain in the neck to configure, and may not get you the same gain (on a small LAN) that going to a gigabit NIC/switch would.

  • Hmmm, interesting… but the Googletron doesn't seem to show any reviews for the model number NP121, only a bunch of links to online stores.

  • aren't portable wifi repeaters like the Netgear and cheap Tenda doing the job?

    • +1

ive been looking for a wifi solution like this, when you say wifi repeaters, are they used like this and cheap as this?

      • The cheap Tenda cost me $22 off Ebay inc p/p. The Netgear which is the best of this lot is $129 - $99 and even $60 at Deal Extreme though took about 3 weeks delivery. You just plug into mains then config with your laptop/tablet/phone. The Tenda W150M+ is more of a portable thing again with detachable aerial and possibilty of using a battery and costing about $45.

      • i really have to say this is a very cheap and powerfull solution. the only problem is will this work will the existing system.
I am using billion 7404 vgp-m on iinet naked adsl2+. Will this one work with my current networking device? if i turn the 7404vgp into bridge mode(?.?turn of the wifi), will i still have VOIP?

  • What's AV about it? Seems to be a bog standard wireless router.

  • None is going to mention that the Wireless N is only Draft?

  • Received today, thought I'd write up a review in case someone is interested.

Before I got this kit I was running a Linksys WRT54G Router (DD-WRT) and a WRT160N Router(stock). The WRT160N is not dual band, so I ran separate N and G networks at home. I need a G network as some of the older hardware in my house doesn't have N support. I need an N network because G networks cannot stream 1080p from computer/NAS to PS3, Xbox or WDTVlive.

My aim was to drop the WRT160N router, and use this kit to connect my older PS3 to an N network (which only has G support). I did this and configured it, but the range and speeds were lower than when I was using the WRT160N and unable to stream 1080p, so I switched back to the original configuration.

What then do with this kit? Was thinking about returning it but I ended up using the client hardware to connect to my original N network off the WRT160N, which worked a charm (so not using the included access point at all). I was able to stream 1080p to my PS3 with no trouble.

So what to do with the redundant access point? Turns out you can convert it to another client! So I hooked the second client up to my WDTVLive (no wireless) where I can also stream 1080p videos to now!

So for it's stated purpose, I found it useless, but converting both of them to clients, I was able to get a much better result.

I am able to centralize my media (around 8TB work) and just stream to my hardware in 1080p/DD/DTS:
    Projector with WDTVLive
    Pioneer 50 with Apple TV/XBMC
    Panasonic 50 with PS3
    Panasonic 42 with HTPC/XBMC
