Pretty much the top notch of AMD and just released so, not the cheapest deal, but looks pretty good for what you are getting here. It's the AMD Advantage Edition, which means a complete AMD system with SmartShift. Coupon should apply automatically.

I'm not sure what CashRewards is exactly but I always see it being talked about to make Lenovo laptops cheaper. Maybe this deal can come even lower down with that.

Why only 230w power supply, GPU is 165w and then CPU is 45w, leaves no headroom. Even Legion 7 gen 6 uses 300w brick.

    • +2

My guess is it thermal throttles well before hitting those power draws

      • +1

I doubt it though, I have gen 6 Legion 7, the cooling is capable of 210w easily. If anything due to the crappy brick it will power throttle.

    • +5

Upgrading to the 300w brick is an option. It costs $50.01

      • +2

For the price of this laptop, definitely spend that $50 imo

        • +19

For the price of this laptop, definitely should have been included

    • You've got 20w left to BURN! Heaps of headroom :D

13, 4.4 star reviews, yet when you click on it, it says, "be the first to review this product"?

  • +4

You've already waited this long, might as well wait for 7000 series.

    Also, Black Friday next month.

    • +3

Doubt we'll see 7000 series in laptops for another year.

      • Actually, highly likely they are coming CES2023. While its true that the 6000 series come out just a year after 5000 series so it seems like AMD is not rushing to a new generation soon. The 6000 is more of an intergeneration upgrade more than anything else-apart from the igpu upgrade using rdna2, and power efficieny improvments with the upgrade to tsmc 6nm node. There is actually no fundamental architectural differences and the actual performance increase is pretty subpar this gen and intel have the definitely edge here (of course apart from battery life). With intel rapter lake mobile coming late this year, AMD need to bring something to the table soon.

Hey mate, how about stating some actual facts rather than negging for no reason.

6000 series performs at a TDP 45w and below. Alder lake cant match the performance per watt of Rembrandt.

          https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Ryzen-7-6800U-Efficiency-R…

Alder Lake U series under performs and P series needs 64w TDP. Unfortunately a lot of chassis cant keep it cool enough to stop it from throttling, other than top tier gaming ones for H series.

          https://www.notebookcheck.net/Core-i5-beats-Core-i7-Alder-La…

7000 series was designed with performance per watt in mind. You only have to look at the benchmarks at the lower 65w TDP eco mode. Phoenix and Dragon 7000 mobile will most likely get announced at CES 2023, like AMD has done so in the laptops in past years.

            @shellshocked:

Hey mate, how about stating some actual facts rather than negging for no reason.

I didnt neg this deal because I think the specs are bad, I negged this because the same specs have been cheaper before. this isnt the only comment i made on this thread

6000 series performs at a TDP 45w and below. Alder lake cant match the performance per watt of Rembrandt.

That is true, but we are talking about gaming laptops here, and rembrandt really doesnt hold up well here. certainly not with the gimped L3 cache, in addition to the performance deficiencies

            P series needs 64w TDP

            p series is 28w, not 64w.

Unfortunately a lot of chassis cant keep it cool enough to stop it from throttling,

also not true, this isnt 10th gen mate.

Phoenix and Dragon 7000 mobile will most likely get announced at CES 2023

thats literally what I said in my original comment?

            • +1

@Brrrrt: The 28w is nominal TDP. If you actually read the link. The issue with P series is

              Quote::

"Intel’s new Alder Lake-P chips have a nominal TDP of 28W with a maximum value of 64 Watt. The problem is that even the Core i5-1240P hits this 64W limitation, which means the Core i7 chips would require even more power at their full clock speeds,"

'The power consumption is very high, which is a challenge for the cooling solutions. It is also a problem for customers, because a Core i5 can be more powerful than a Core i7 and there can be massive performance differences in general."

At least I provide links to validate my claims. Not just rattle on some inaccurate information.

    Damn what a beast!

  • Are these easy to be carried on day to day basis or yoga or it doesn't makes much difference ?

  • +2

and yet for all the hype of being a top line product it comes with windows 11 HOME lol

  • +1

    Needs a $1000 haircut

  • Same spec can be had for under 3k like two month earlier - that was a semi-recurring deal iirc.

    • +2

If you are only looking at raw specs, then the Alienware may be a better deal. However, the Lenovo is smaller, lighter and has additional features that the Alienware does not, such as the fingerprint reader and USB4.

      • +1

You are entirely correct, on the other hand, I can say that the alienware have a better panel and bigger heatsinks and overall cooling solution. It certainly doesnt justify the 20% cost hike, especially not when new cpu & gpus are dropping in 5 months.

  • It comes down to $3031.56 if you stack the 16% cashrewards which ends soon I think. Thats not a bad deal for 3k for those specs.

    • The code is not listed on cashrewards so you cant get cashback with it. 3.6k is definitely overpaying for these specs considering they were under three grand before in the alienware m17r5 with identical specs.

      • I was wondering about the code ineligibility thing as well, but it does say this on the terms:

Cashback is however eligible on codes generated by Lenovo on its website, even though they may not be listed on Cashrewards, provided last click before purchase is from Cashrewards.

Surely this means it's valid for cashback.

      • -1

Cashrewards work.. Also it comes down to sub 3k if you sign up for the lenovo rewards aswell. Although i think the deal ends soon its only worth it if you stack everything.

  • +3

2.53kg, might as well bought a desktop

  • What's the sweet spot for lenovo pros atm?

Will be used for gaming primarily.

    • +3

Legion 5 pro gen 6 with 5800H and a 3070. Last on sale a month back was down at 2 grand. Dont think you will find a better performance per dollar machine than this one.

Buying the top end stuff at this point in time is a bit iffy because unless they come with a good discount, you are paying for stuff that will become medium end in like 4, 5 months' time.

      • Thanks Brrt.

Do you think its worth waiting till the latest gen is released for current gen to go down?

        • +1

waiting is never a bad call mate. you can also wait till say black friday to see if we get any good deals.

          • @Brrrrt: Good idea abou Black Friday sales. Diablo 4 beta will have to wait!

  • What do you guys think about this?

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/All-AMD-Alienware-m17-R5-gamin…

A great deal for under 1900AUD.
