    • that's DSE staff deal, totally different bra

More like EB Games staff deal… Yeah, why buy it from your own shop when you can steal all the stock from DSE that regular people are going to buy, & then you're going to claim it on tax anyway??!

      • -3

Don't neg me because I bought two for $80.

I personally wouldn't pay over $50 for the DSiXL these days. The 3DS is infinitely better due to the eshop and its higher resolution. DSiXL may have larger screens but it has the same resolution as the original DS :S

    • Agreed. I like the idea of the XL, but games look like crap stretched over the larger screen. and the buttons are still tiny.

The DSi / XL price seems to have have been officially dropped in America, can't seem to find an announcement for Aus

DS games look even worse on a 3DS — you have the choice of either stretching it out to fill the higher resolution screen (which makes any pixel art look terrible); or keeping it at its native resolution within the higher resolution 3DS screen — meaning, you're effectively playing the game on a pair of 2.4 inch screens (rather than the DSi's 3.25 inch screens, or the DSi XL's 4.2 inch screens).

Umm no they don't. They look the same if you leave it in it's native size.
Not sure why people would purchase obsolete hardware especially when a 3DS bundle from the same shop is only $80 more and includes 2 games and an accessory pack.

        • Look the same, really??
This is how the 3ds looks playing ds games in their native resolution : http://vaultnishi.com/wp-content/flagallery/game-unboxing/ki…

You can play ds games stretched but it looks just as good as hooking up a VHS player to your HD tv. Dsi XL is superior than the 3ds when playing ds games, this is why people would purchase a Dsi XL over a 3ds.

        • Yes, it does have black bars, but that is how big the original DS screens are. So essentially they look the same. I don't see your point. If anything the stretched DSi XL screens will look even worse.

Here is some light reading. Is it worth it to purchase 2 systems for such negligible results? That is up to you.

          http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/03/how-the-3ds-alters-ds-games…

Don't get me wrong I own 1 DS Phat, 2 DS Lites a DSi and also 2 3DS's. I love the things, but if I'm going to play a DS game I'd rather bring my 3DS with me as I also have the option to play a 3DS game too. Best of both worlds.

        • Yes, it does have black bars, but that is how big the original DS screens are. So essentially they look the same.

          Wrong.

The original DS had a 3 inch screen, the DS Lite had a 3.12 inch screen, the DSi has a 3.25 inch screen, and the DSi XL has a 4.2 inch screen. When running at native resolution on the 3DS, a DS game uses 2.4 inches of a 3.02 screen (bottom), and 2.4 inches of a 3.53 inch screen (top). That's 36% smaller than the original DS, which already had the smallest screen of any DS model.

Here is some light reading. Is it worth it to purchase 2 systems for such negligible results?

Who said anything about purchasing two systems? There are plenty of people who will be perfectly satisfied playing just DS games — especially now that DS games are being discounted left, right and centre.

        • .

When I said original DS I was talking about the DS Phat. I was unaware that the 3DS only runs DS games at 2.4". Not that I don't believe you but do you have a source?

There will be people satified with just playing DS games… Until they want to play a 3DS game.

3DS and DSi XL are two different handhelds. The DSi XL only plays DS games so higher resolution doesn't mean anything in that case.

Do they have deals on a PSP too..?

  • +1

They are both great systems (which is personal opinion so up for argumentation) but both of them are cheaper here than anyone else. There is no reason to neg this.
