Samsung Galaxy A73 5G Smartphone 6GB/128GB $581.50 ($566.97 with eBay Plus) Delivered @ Sydneymobiles eBay

150
SVE20PLSAV22

Original Coupon Deal

Deal Applies for both Grey and Green.

Not the cheapest this has been, but typical sales are ~$550 and the all time low is $506.59 with the Afterpay Deal(s).

Decent deal if you already have ebay plus, otherwise you may like to wait for a better price as we're at that time of year.

It may also be possible to get this cheaper via education store + trade in of a cheap device + the newsletter sign up but YMMV on that.

    Good deal

  • A73 deals haven't been this good in quite a while….

    • Did you bother searching?

      • +1

There have been a few, but nothing recent below the $600 mark.

The other deals below $600 have been from August and earlier. As I've mentioned it may go for less at some point soon due to the time of year we're at but this isn't a bad deal if you're happy with it.

Mid of Aug, now only Sept

          • @superforever: This was a month ago and it's $16 cheaper - This isn't a bad deal and it stands out over anything else right now.

got mine for $599 about a month ago and it has been awesome, battery life isn't as good as I expected coming from a mate 20 pro and charging Is pretty slow but otherwise for this price would highly recommend

    • For most people if it lasts well over a day that's what matters. I'm personally coming from an S10 (wanted the SD Card slot) and charging should be faster for me (I already have 25w+ chargers in most of the house) as well as wireless. That's how bad the Exynos S10 battery life is.

Thanks op but meh, was more than 10% cheaper than this a couple of days ago.

    • +2

Was it? It wasn't posted and I've been looking at various stores, etc

All time low (Recorded on Ozb) is $506.xx as per my original post.

      Current/recent deals I've found are;

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/725018
      Officeworks: $649
      JB Hi Fi: $649
Hardly Normal: $698 - Though this could be price matched to $649 if you want local stock and don't live near the others.
Other eBay deals all seem to be $600+ at best
Samsung Store: $699 - Can use a $50 newsletter voucher to make it… $649 - Although people have had success with reaching out to chat and they can be lucky to give out coupons.

but meh, was more than 10% cheaper than this a couple of days ago.

The AFTERPAY deal not a couple of days ago, time flies.

  • How is the warranty process with these ebay stores?

    • I've never had to deal with it; However you'd typically just contact Samsung for warranty in this case.

As long as the product was purchased in Australia and is an Australian model this should suffice for the standard 24 months warranty. I am not an expert on Samsung warranty and your mileage may vary with this but i do not see why Samsung would deny this as this isn't outlined "it must be purchased from Samsung" in their ACL terms and conditions.

      https://www.samsung.com/au/australian-consumer-law/

I've personally claimed warranty on a Nexus 5x that was from Officeworks to LG Directly (it was a phone I got used but got the receipt) and LG replaced it. Apple will also do the same, consumer law allows it if genuine and an Australian sale.

  • Most reviews are overseas so how does this compare to a S10? or bite the bullet and go S22?
    Cheers,

I've got an S10 - I was looking at the S21FE vs A73 and I'll post what I found (S22 is similar, but better performance/camera, etc).

      Pros over an S10
Bigger battery - Battery will last a day easily.
120Hz screen However this is not adaptive 120Hz - there is an app that lets you control this, again your mileage may vary
Bigger screen - It is only 1080p though.
Processor is better then the S10 - Single Core is only a touch better but multi core is improved. - I used a review of the A73 and compared this to my own S10 score in Geekbench 5.
Camera didn't phase me that much - But I suspect that the Camera on the A73 is the same/similar.
5G if you care for it.
Flat screen (cheaper to replace + better for screen protectors)

      Cons over vs the S10
      No Wireless charging
      Lower Res screen
Chassis is Plastic and Not Metal/glass

      Cons if you went S21FE/S22
      No memory card slot
      Worse battery life/smaller battery
Lower Res screen then the S22 Ultra
Worse Camera (I am being assumptive here).

      tl;dr

If you want a memory card slot, this is the best new phone that Samsung offers with one. The three main drawbacks of this vs a S series device is less accessories, the device is a plastic chassis and no wireless charging.

If you want the best performance/camera go the S22/S21FE, but as expected you will spend more. I think the S21FE is a very good phone if you can get it on sale for $650 or so it's just the memory card slot that killed it for me.

        Much appreciated @Matt86

        • Forgot to mention this specific model has 6GB of RAM vs 8GB on the S10. Some of these in 128GB come with 8GB (I haven't found any in Aus) and the 256GB are all 8GB.

Additionally weirdly enough Samsung Pay isn't supported, but the device has NFC.

It has Gorilla Glass 5 and the S10 has Gorilla Glass 6 - back of the S10 is Gorilla glass 5 however.

The USB Port is USB 2.0, the S10 is 3.0 if that matters to you.

          • @Matt86: Thanks for confirming NFC. Was very confusing as some YT reviews said the new A series don't come with NFC lol. Maybe they had overseas model..

            • @Brodo Faggins: Yeah it's weird, GMS Arena lists it as "Region specific" and this is also why Samsung phones kind of suck as we cannot trust reviews.

A mate has one and it has NFC as an option from the dropdown menu and he had it enabled, I can only assume Google Pay works on it and that Samsung pay may not be an option (I prefer Samsung Pay as it has the authentication) but eh.

              • @Matt86: Yeah defs trust issues with reviews LOL

I'll only use banking NFC so hopefully no dramas there.

Also do you know the hype on A53 > A73? Cheers

Keeping an eye on a better deal for both, but this one is tempting…

                • +1

@Brodo Faggins: I do not know about the hype, i went for the A73 for the Snapdragon processor as I'm still salty with how bad the S10 was in comparison to US models over 3 years later.

          • +1

@Matt86: I have the a73 and It does have Samsung Pay. Its not on the supported devices list on their website but i believe any Samsung with NFC will have Samsung Pay.

Wonder if I can get JB to price match this tomorrow if I go and get the $1200 voucher with the $99pm Telstra plan.

    • HN would not let me price match Bing Lee + $50 gift card. They said either or - which I thought was stupid

  • +2

I have this and the camera is sub par compared to my pixel 5. The screen size is good though and the battery lasts a day.

    • Have you used Google Pay with it?

      • Samsung Pay works without issue - even though it's officially unsupported.

  • Mine arrived Friday.

    A. Don't transfer via a USB C to C cable, this is USB C 2.0 - so transferring via WiFi is likely faster.
    B. There's an app called Galaxy MaxHz which lets you set a (somewhat) adaptive refresh rate - lets it idle at 60Hz which should save some battery life.
    C. Camera is pretty average if you care about it, good enough for a phone but if you want a better camera get a Pixel 6 Pro, etc.
    D. Battery life seems.. ok, not amazing as I'd have expected with a 5,000MaH battery.
    E. Samsung Smart Switch works pretty well, only had to manually transfer WhatsApp and sign into a few apps again. Reminder: Transfer Authentication apps as it doesn't do this for you.
    F. Phone is very light, it almost feels weird to hold.
G: There is a pretty big first update to do as well, your milage may vary.

I really only miss wireless charging and the slightly better camera thus far (coming from an S10).

      D. Battery life seems.. ok, not amazing as I'd have expected with a 5,000MaH battery.

New phone may need some time to get battery to full capacity, I am not a heavy user but seems can last 2 days even on default 120Hz.

    • Update: Phone has issues with display, it's all splotchy in the top right in dark lights.

Contacted Sydney Mobiles for a replacement - Declined and told that they'd need to assess the device.
Contacted Samsung - Their support is terrible FYI - I'm being told that this isn't an Australian model phone.. Despite the seller telling me that it is..
Confirmed Australian stock - The model is correct and the RCM C-Tick mark shows in settings.

Still not too happy with the outcome so far.. Apple Support > Samsung Support.

eBay Plus you can go through eBay to return it if needed.

        • Ended up using consumer law kind of wording and they got where I was going - getting a full refund.

Caving and buying it from Harvey Norman with a price match and will get a full refund soon.

Good that I'm getting an outcome I desired, bad that I had to basically use my consumer law knowledge to get it.

          • @Matt86: Purchased this from Harvey Norman for $647 as I was frustrated and just wanted a phone without issues.

Phone has the same issue - This is a problem with Samsung using cheap Chinese OLED panels apparently and may be very widespread.
