I'll take my free month once the Assassin's Creed game they announced is released. I believe its codename was Elder Scrolls 6

Don't worry by that time they will introduce different tier versions where you have pay to play newly released games.

    • +4

It's only free until October 10th 2022. The new games won't be released by then. There has never been a free trial period before to my knowledge.
Edit: Previously the free trial has been 1 week apparently.

      • +1

Nothing worthwhile on their catalogue imo unless you haven't played some of the AC franchises.

        • +4

Anno 1800 is the best city builder that exists

          • @Kozhutki: Ah yes forgot about that one. How's the game run via Ubisoft Connect on PC though?

            • @Grey 13: you get all DLC with the sub and theres the next one releasing on sept 20 too.

Anyway not sure how to answer that question as everyones config is gonna be different.

          • @Kozhutki: Agreed, only regret I have with this game is buying the base game without the DLCs. This is the only game I have a regret like this.

      • Yeah I've learnt that. Wouldn't be surprised if they offer regular first month free promos in the future though.

Last time my card was charged twice a day after signing up for the free trial. Support told me no refunds and that if I used a charge back they'd take my account and games. Then I didn't play anything because the catalogue isn't that interesting anyway. I've been trying to boycott them since then but those clever dog's got the best of me again by not releasing anything good.

For those who have the ability to generate a virtual credit card (ie. Wise account) make sure you freeze the card. So even if you forget to unsubscribe, Ubisoft can't deduct the subscription charge because the card has been frozen (unable to charge the card as it is locked by you). As with any virtual generated credit card, you can delete it at anytime.

    • +2

You can just unsubscribe right after you subscribe and still benefit the subscription until Oct 10

  • +1

I would not trust Ubisoft with a subscription, even trial one. their platform is crap

I only tolerate it for the games I already own, which is quite a few (Division 1 and 2, watch dogs 2 and legion, a few AC and FC titles which are actually enjoyable)

  • +2

The same Ubisoft that's decommissioning games?

  • +5

I have an empty debit card which I use for all my trials with zero intentions of putting money on it - don't ever use a card with money on it with a trial you don't intend to cancel or unsubscribe immediately.

    • +2

Are there any websites out there for getting blank cards like that? I don't have any of those.

      • You can user one time use cards from Revolut. That is what I do.

      • Revolut lets you have unlimited virtual cards for free.

The only downside is you still get the notifications for the rejected payments on frozen/deleted cards.

        • Downside because of the unwanted notification or because they charge for rejected payments on frozen/deleted cards?

Just what the world needs, another f****ing digital subscription service.

Ubisoft, go back to making games that aren't online only when they don't need to be.

    • +5

I mean it's been around for well over 2 years now, unsure if it's downvote worthy though

      • -1

        Kinda answered your question there.

It's another me too subscription service in a stuffed sea full of them.

Ubisoft have all but given up making most games instead creating live service purchasing fields with expiry dates.

Not really a deal, it's like paying to be let into a casino that tries to shake you down.

        • I want to say about 12 months ago, out of the blue Ubisoft sent me an email saying I had won $US1000 (ended up being $AU1500). I hadn't entered any comp, my number was plucked out of the database I guess. It was of course $1500 in Ubi wallet dollars and expired in 3 years (lol). Even after I bought everything I still had >$1000 left!

When FC6 came out, I could tell by looking at it that I'd be disappointed but thought why not, tried to buy it and was continually rejected. Took weeks to get Ubi support to respond to my ticket with any actual info. Turns out I was blocked from using my free dollars to buy it!

This is the Ubi experience in every way: Even if their games are free and there's a remote possibility the contents won't be "ocean wide/puddle deep" .. they will always find a way to spoil your experience - it's part of the contract I'm sure, somewhere deep in the fine print ;-)

p.s. Loved Division 1, liked GRW and early AC/FC.

    • +1

Ubisoft was going to unlist AC Liberation from the steam store, AND block all users from playing their already bought game. Then after mass protest, they backtracked and relisted the game and allowed existing owners to keep playing it.

So it looks like they're trying to force everything into a live-service/subscription model.

They also tried to push Quartz NFTs, lying to users and spouting all sorts of bs about how value-adding it is etc. then it failed spectacularly.
And prior to that, they got exposed for abusive work conditions
And before that, mishandled sexual harassment and abuse complaints in the workplace

      • -1

Remember when EA were saying she's a 10 but she only plays single player?, shut down a star wars game because it had no multiplayer and have said they want all their games going live service?

Ubisoft is through the looking glass, where they are entire games, workers rights and a world without sexual abuse cover ups is just a world they don't live in.

  • +5

might speed run through FC6 i guess

Subscribed using PayPal so any shenanigans with charges after the trial ends should be easy to resolve. Can confirm you can cancel the sub directly after signing up.

    • Another alternative is Revolut cards.

  • Every single free trial I have seen has seen the most recent inclusion accidentally missing.

1800, then Valhalla. Terrible value sub, you should buy a game when it's on sale and it would save you money.

  • +1

What I hate about Ubisoft is they have brought a couple of their titles to Xbox Game Pass and some of them support cloud saving but the only way to use Cloud saving on these titles on Game Pass you need to Subscribe to Ubisoft Plus.

So if you had the same thoughts as me "Hey I think I'll play a bit of AC Origins on PC and have my stats transferred back to my Xbox later" you can't do this without Ubisoft Plus… A big let down.

Ubisoft should make this clear on the Xbox game pass titles.

  • Preview of new games being added to Ubisoft+ subscription, but only at the end of the month of October, i.e. already past the free month long trial period that ends on October 10th 1800 UTC.
