  • Is this or the Kenwood better?

Is the Kenwood at a similar price point?

I acknowledge the price range different, just want to know if it's as good as Kenwood or not

Which one mate? the chef XL deal?
If so, hands down, absolutely for those that make heavier stuff like dough for pizza, bread or focaccia on the regular.
That said if you're just wanting something for mixing the pancake mix on a weekend morning, this would be more than enough, and would be plenty for the occasional small batch of pizza dough or cupcakes

Thanks mate. Missus wants one but we havent had any mixer before so just want to get a good one that can perform well.

        • It's definitely still a good one, mum has an older version of it and used to use it for loaves of bread. It's just that if you're regularly using it for heavier stuff like that, it's got a smaller 700w motor while the Kenwood have 1200w. Definitely still a huge step-up from a handheld to go for either

@Anthropomorphised: The Kitchen Aid has a 350W motor, which actually means the quality of the gears inside the mixer are more imprtant than the power of the motor

@Winston100s: I'm pretty sure the main difference there is direct drive (KitchenAid) vs indirect drive (this one and most of the ones with a thick "stem"). Direct drive means better power output ratio.

              • @EBC: This is correct. Comparing KitchenAid Classic and Artisan to Kenwood and Breville is apples to oranges because of this. Direct drive requires less wattage to have the same power at the mixing head. From what I understand, there's also a plastic gear inside KitchenAid models so that if you overload it, there's a replaceable failure point to avoid damaging the whole system, whereas massively overloading a Kenwood or Breville has more potential to cause damage to the machine itself

  • pass, too much bad reviews

    • Bought one and just used it today. Intend to use it for occasional cake baking. First use: very good for the price , scraped the edges manually once. But very good result considering price and if intended use is once per month or so.

  • Price showing as $199 now

Somehow completely missed this, time to add OzB newbie badge back on my profile, thanks for the pointer!

  • Got the Sunbeam - 'the master one' recently for the same price on Amazon. Doing well so far.

  • Omg.. those reviews, Thanks OP, but would stay away

I guess people will have mixed results..

    • You’re scraping the barrel there.

      • Beating a dead horse here I think

        • +1

          Probably didn’t knead that

          • @2025: It's okay, if you leave it long enough it will rise

            • @spaceflight: Yeah I’m sure someone will have something better they can whip up

  • Had mine for years and have had a good experience. The scraper is handy

  • I noticed its Save $30 off $200 spend, and although this is only $199 it still takes $30 off instead of $20. I wonder if this code will work on anything priced lower.

  • So this or the $400 Kenwood Chef? I know this is a lot cheaper… but wondering if the kenwood is actually 2-3 better than this or not.

      • It was never answered. Just some questions on questions.

  • Compare the the weight of dough the mixers are able to mix. Don't get confused by the bowl size, has nothing to do with how much it can mix. That should give you an answer to how much better the Kenwood potentionaly could be than the Breville. Not sure if Kenwood still does this, but after registration of your mixer you get 7 years of warranty in total.
