10% Ongoing Discount on nbn Plans - Pay by CommBank Credit/Debit Card @ More Telecom

810

I recently switched to More NBN with Commbank offer and Received this email from More today. They have updated their website also with this offer. URL linked.

Thanks to our partnership with CommBank, we're excited to announce a 10% ongoing discount after the end of your initial discount period on all More nbnTM plans when using your CommBank debit or credit card as your bill payment method.

This means that once your initial discount period ends (or, if it's already ended), we will automatically apply a 10% discount to the retail price on your plan on an ongoing monthly basis.

The best news is, to access this new deal, you don't need to do a thing! We will take care of applying the new discount to your plan fees and you can continue to stream, surf, study and - most importantly - save with your More NBN plan.

  • Will the NBN modem and router i have when i signed up with TPG work with this as a BYO modem, anyone know?

    • +4

Is it the Archer VR1600v? I am using that with More. I get disconnected and have to restart the modem once every other week but don't think that's More's issue. I think the modem is doggy

      • +1

Yes! That is the one i have also. Great so it should work then, awesome! The connection can't be slower and drop out any more than it already does with TPG so willing to take that chance, lol.

      • I have same router supplied by TPG and it works fine for me with More NBN on HCF. Didn’t have to restart.

For a brief time I configured Asus DSL AC-68U and that used to have internet droup outs during evening peak hours frequently and needed a restart, so had to switch back to TPG supplied Archer VR1600

        • yea i had issues with Asus AC 68 as well. VR1600 works like a charm for me. i think its VR1600 is very underrated. The only weakness i found in VR1600 is the QoS.

      • +1

I used to have this modem and had the same issues with it disconnecting. Swapped to a deco x73-dsl and has been rock solid.

        • Moved to x73. No issues. Highly recommended.

      • I have exactly same problem with more nbn, it gets disconnected so often 😡

    • If your router supports pppoe then your all good

      • Yes, it does, awesome thank you!

    • +4

Mine just got connected today, I'm using Archer VR1600v too. When they send you username/password via email, connect to the modem wifi > go to 192.168.1.1 from any web browser> sign in> advanced > Network > EWAN > untick v-lan id > username and password > save. Easy peasy.

      • Thanks very much for this, i'll bookmark this page. Unfortunately have to wait 30 days cos of TPG insanely convoluted, anti-consumer and user-unfriendly requirement to give 30 days' written notice (i'll never, ever use TPG for anything ever again) but then i'll be signing up to this for sure.

        • +1

Yeh that sucks. Guess I was lucky only gave them two weeks notice and switched in ten days but didn't get charged.

        • Written notice? I'm thinking about churning away from TGP and I thought of sending them an email or getting on the website and filling a termination form.

          • +1

@nonparticular: Yeah the online form found here:

            https://cyberstore.tpg.com.au/your_account/cancel.php

is the written notice i was referring to.

Even then they dont acknowledge it or reply to your request, they then RING you at home a couple of days later to pester you some more and offer a measly amount of rebates. Honestly the worst cancellation process i've experienced in a long time, since the very early days of Xbox Live with its auto-renewal where you had to ring america and speak to some yank just to turn off auto-renewal.

    • +1

I have the Archer 1600V Modem. I switched to More just 3 weeks ago. When playing online games, I noticed More has lot less lag than TPG. Overall pretty happy with the switch, I wish I did it sooner.

    • Yes

    • Yes it does, you will need to call the support line and reconfigure it to work with More Telecom, if you cannot configure it yourself.
I'm using one from TPG and just switched to use Google Modem another BYOD

  • +27

Rip off after the 30% off. 10% off isn't enough to stay with them.

    • Worth a call to them though.

    • -6

      Rip off?

What other providers have 50/20 for under $70 ongoing?

      • For the first 6 months Exetel 50/20 is $54 p/m and Superloop 50/20 is $55 p/m.

        • -2

And what’s the the ongoing rate thereafter

(FYI, I pay $54 a month for 24 months with More)

          • @JimB: 24 months? Pretty good deal thought it was 12 month's only

          • +1

@JimB: Ongoing rate with More is $69.30.

Ongoing rate with Exetel, Superloop, Belong and Tangerine (exact same as More) is $70 with no need to keep paying via CBA.

So this deal saves you a whole 70c versus other RSPs. Slow clap CBA/More.

            • -2

@silenthillrocks: Oh, so it’s cheaper ongoing than the others, yet still a rip off?

              Difficult customer.

              • +1

@JimB: Were talking cents masked as an exclusive CBA deal. Have some common cents.

                • +1

                  @silenthillrocks: Or 70 common cents… (sense)

Yep, much easier going with Superloop or Exetel without any hoops.

                • +1

@silenthillrocks: Yet, you provide no evidence that other providers are cheaper after their introductory period is over.

Anyway, I won't engage in your trolling until you give us facts to the contrary.

                  • @JimB: The problem I guess for many, is you need to be a CBA customer, so there is a catch.

For those already with CBA and happy to stay with them, it's a great deal.

These deals are like bundling, it makes a customer "sticky" AKA less likely to leave either service.

Out of interest, does CBA have a fee-free, catch-free, transactions account for this deal? (asking for a friend!!)

  • What's service like? Looking at switching over

    • +2

I have been with them for more than 2 months and they are good

    • +1

Churned from Aussie to a 250mbs about 5months ago, No drops out and consistent connection so far..

      • Sweet. Reckon I'll give em a go. That commbank pricing is too good not to.

    • All really good so far for me. Moved from Superloop. Maybe picky folk who speed test their connection constantly can find issue but I can't

    • +4

They're OK. A little more frequent in terms of drop-outs (anecdotal) & I find their night speeds fluctuate a bit more than abb/superloop.

But at 30% off I could afford the higher speed & not notice anything.

Once the 30% is up I'll probably look around but unless something is really competitive I'll go back to lower speed & take the 10% before churning for free months

      • +2

Same with me. I moved from launtel 2 days ago and have higher latency + few drop-outs. Have a drop-out this afternoon during the meeting.

        • For me More NBN100 is equivalent to launtel. Minus the long chaotic outages I had with Launtel.

    • I found it a bit variable when on the 25 plan but recently moved to the 100 plan which has been much more consistent with no dropouts

    • +1

Was with Optus and getting 48mbps now only 32mbps max

    • +1

It's been good for me. I was with Mate before and Superloop and no difference (FTTP)

    • The internet is good. The customer service team is usually angry! :|

  • +2

Will jump to another when 12 months done. 10% is equal around $62 for 50mbps, not good enough

    • +4

Their current retail price for NBN 50 is $77, so 10% off is about $69.30, not $62

      • +5

$70 for 50/20 is pretty average. Superloop, Exetel and Belong charge this as a standard offer.

      • Wow, even worst

  • +3

Op.you probably need to make it clearer

    From you're link

Commonwealth Customers Receive 30% off an nbn™ plan for 12 months then 10% ongoing

    So it's
    30% discount for 12mths
    then
    10% discount afterwards

    • +5

Yeah this post makes it sound like they are no longer offering 30% off, which isnt the case.

    • The content in post is just a copy paste from the email I received.

  • If I swap NBN providers will they automatically churn at end of current months billing period or should I sign up towards end of billing period?

    • +1

If I swap NBN providers will they automatically churn at end of current months billing period

Nope, churning is instigated by who you're churning too. So probably best a few days before in case it goes pear shaped. Also check with your RSP/ISP if you need to gove them notice, some are b@stards like that.

      • glares angrily at TPG

      • +1

TPG are bastards!!! And you had to fight for your phone deposit when canceling ADSL. They would have made $$$$ from that alone.

  • Nice good deal

  • -1

Do they offer plans for fttp?

  • Anyone know if you have to continue using Commbank card or can change the card once you sign up? Thanks

    • 10% ongoing discount after the end of your initial discount period on all More nbnTM plans when using your CommBank debit or credit card as your bill payment method

      Short answer, no

    • I had fraud on my registered card, contacted support you need to have a CBA card, changed it from my CC to debit and retained the discount. wouldn't like to risk using a non CBA card according to support the discounted rate would be forfeited.

  • Wasnt it like 30% off?

    • This is for after the initial 12 months

  • +6

Have been with More for a while on the 40% deal 250/25 package $74 a month, Speeds are decent i have a server that runs a speed test every 2 hours, here are the results over 30 days:

    Ping
    10.1ms (current)
    8.6ms (average)
    19.5ms (maximum)
    7.5ms (minimum)

    Download
    265.6Mbit/s (current)
    253.2Mbit/s (average)
    267.7Mbit/s (maximum)
    83.1Mbit/s (minimum)

    Upload
    23.4Mbit/s (current)
    23.4Mbit/s (average)
    23.6Mbit/s (maximum)
    20.8Mbit/s (minimum)

This 10% off would put the package at $107.99, which is ok on current market rates. Given i would have to rebuild my network router settings, assuming the speeds and uptime continue then i wont change.

Only negative i had was there was one time that NBN did planned maintenance and they didnt notify me, midweek on a WFH day, have subsequently received notifications so maybe this was an omission.

Edit: forgot to say im on HFC

    • +1

Great breakdown of your experience. Cheers.

I'm also with More on 100/20 FTTN since they released the 30% CommBank offer, and anecdotally haven't had any issues or obvious slowdowns.

    • Only negative is that upload speed…. the 100mbps plan has 40 upload, might give them a ring

Also, isn't it 30%, or are you on a legacy 40% deal?

      • +1

i got the 40% deal after i ignored the original email for 30% for 12 months, took them a month or two and they sent me an offer for 40% off for 24 months. snapped their hand off at that, was worth rebuilding my router and vlans etc..

        picture of signup conf: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Nz08hWJTDqABnZLshaj1P6MgYW6…

looks like it less than i remembered at $71.40 per month

      • The 100/40 plan only started after the 40% off ended.

It was 100/20 for the 40% off deal only, this is what I have, since May.

I signed up at the very end of the promo & shortly after they started the 100/40 plan, was super annoyed at the time but honestly, 100/20 for $59.40 p/m x 24M is good :)

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/683386

    • I’m on same plan but fttp. Exact same speeds consistently as above. For a while I was accidentally on a 250/100 profile. It’s resold vocus wholesale nbn who does offer that tier but more do not. I had some address issues with nbnco as it’s a new house so someone manually processed it. I had issues with direct debit not occuring and when I got them to fix it my profile went to the correct 250/25 speeds. Should of kept my mouth shut and manually paid each month…

30% off for 24 months here so I’m sure some other offers will be around in 18 months.

  • +1

10% off is not that great, but the initial 30% off when signing up is a great deal especially when you can get FTTP installed with no extra cost

    • especially when you can get FTTP installed with no extra cost

      Wait, what??

      • +1

Change from FTTN or FTTC to FTTP by Upgrading to a Faster Speed Plan (Select Locations) @ nbn co via Participating ISPs
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/690035

        • +1

Ah okay thanks, im on HFC so doesnt apply but great for those who can get it!

  • Can you switch speeds during the 12 months of the 30% of CBA offer? I'll churn there tomorrow, just need to make up my mind, whether to go up one level or stay where I am for now.

    • you really need to look at your home usage,

Do you have multiple 4k tvs streaming at the same time, my tv can pull 35-60mbs on its own when streaming 4k.

Do you want the fastest downloads from steam or other gaming services? if yes go for the fastest you can afford.

Do you need to upload large files for work or other purposes i.e backups. then go with 100/40 plan.

if your just doing basic HD streaming, emails and surfing then go for 50/20 and bank the rest of the cash saving.

      • I'd be happy to stay on the current speed for now, as long as I don't lose the 30% discount if I need to upgrade later. Some deals don't let you make changes without losing discounts, just wondering if this is one of them or if More are flexible.

      • I thought 4K is between 25-30Mbps

        • depends on the encoding and the way the app is buffering from the server, i find amazon does more bursting for caching content so can hit 60+. Netflix is lower, disney somewhere inbetween.

  • +1

    Luckily I have 40% off for 24month. I pay $59.40 for NBN100.

    • How do I get the 40% off offer

      • -1

That's the previous promotion. No longer avaialble

  • +1

Moved to them, set up was a disaster as they'd given me some incorrect info, and then speeds fluctuated dramatically - seriously frustrating. Moved to Superloop after trying to make it work for a few months, and now everything is finally back to normal.

    • Similar thing happened to me.
Check your emails in the next 3 months that they don’t bill you for each month although that you moved on.
I kept getting bills each month of outstanding payments and every time I’d ring and tell them that I’m not with them, and I’ve even gotten my initial payment refunded, they kept on apologising and Continued to send me outstanding bills.
      They drove me crazy 😜
Would not recommend their customer service.

      • eeeep thanks for the heads up! Will definitely check.

    • +2

Similar experience - moved to them a few months back due to Commbank deal - went from Optus 50/20 to More Telecom 50/20 plan (HFC) - the move was quick and easy but that's where the joy ended
Latency was horrible, kids complaining about things taking for ever to load, sometimes had to refresh websites a few times to have them load, performance was terrible (especially if anyone was downloading a game update or windows updates) - never had any of these issues with Optus.
Moved to Superloop after one month on More and it's back to "Optus-like" performance, no more issues and no more complaints from the family :-)
Would have gone back to Optus but they increased pricing twice while I was in contract (been a customer for 6 years!), basically telling me I could leave if I wanted to, so I did.

  • I also switched from Internode to More with CBA 30% offer, set up/onboarding process was easy and when I needed to speak to them it was like less than 5 mins wait time.

  • Wonder if you can port out and back in towards the end of the year when the promotion ends to reset the discount period?

    • I was wondering I cancel my subscription after 12 months, and register with my wife's name and CBA card for another 12 months!
I don't know if they reject this or not!

  • 51.2 down for me and 18.4 Mbps is the lowest of my speed checks.
54.3 down and 19.2 up is my best
Not dropped out using a New D-Link Wifi 6 mesh system.
I have been with them 3 weeks, left TPG..

  • Whats this extra $300 fee they are charging? Is it a setup fee for FTTP?

  • Time to switch NBN providers for Optus customers :(

  • ..

  • FYI I got a sneakily worded email from More saying they have reduced the price of my 1000/50 plan from $105 to $101. Amazing right? Except now it is only for a 12mo promotional period and then the price goes up to $130. I'm setting a reminder to look at other providers then.

  • I have been with tangerine then more telecom which they both are connected to each other. My contract finishing next and they told me they would give me 20% discount , but its still not the same pricing as exetel and they won't beat it. So i have given in cancellation notice and moving to exetel next week. ITs only a $8 different a month compared to exetel but they won't even budge to keep me.

  • Ported from Telstra to More using Telstra's Smart Modem gen 2 modem (works perfectly). NSW 2173 under plan 50/17 HFC.
These are my speedtest for the last 48hrs. Peak hours 7-10am, speeds are 38-40/17. 11am onwards 47/17. I can live with that for almost half the price of what Telstra is charging.
Btw, porting out of telstra took only 1hr on a Sunday afternoon. Really amazed as I was bracing myself for at least 1-3 business days for the switch to take place.

  • +2

    price increase incoming…

Commencing from 1 December 2023, we are updating the prices of our nbn® plans for our existing customers, including your plan. Price changes for new nbn® services will take effect on 1 November 2023.

comparatively once discount ends More Telecom is no longer all that competitive 10% discount is much closer to Aussie Broadband normal price on 50/20 speed tier

    think im on 24/mth 30% discount @ $53.90 (21-70=$49+GST)
    increase to $88 (88-21=$67)
if this price excludes GST? more like $88 $96.8?

bit confused on pricing, regardless nowhere near a bargain, discounts aside

ABB increasing from $79 to $85 from 21st November [$6 increase]
MT increasing my plan from $70 to $88 from 1st November? [$18 increase]
their website shows my plan as $77 before discount [$10 increase] for non-grandfathered plan?

  • Just FYI webchat may blatantly lie to you due to either ignorance, incompetence, or malice.

I have been with them for 12 months with the 40% code - nil issues really, come the start of the 11th out of the 12 months I am charged the full price of $121 for 1 month of 1000/50 (normal price $135 which is ridiculous, but I had 10% discount as paying by CBA card) as opposed to the discounted rate of $81.

I spoke to a webchat agent about any deals to keep me as a customer given there were lots of other sign up deals, the agent said that they were happy to apply my code for a further 12 months of 40% discount, despite already having had 12 months of discount. Confirmed that this would be applied to my bill, despite already having the discount.
I spoke to another webchat agent who said that this couldn't be applied to my current bill, but "confirmed" that this was applied to my next bill.

Come my most recent bill I am once again charged $121 per month for 1000/50, so despite reassurance from 2 webchat agents above, my discount still has not applied and now I have paid their overinflated prices for 2 months when I should have just churned to a different company like I already planned.

TLDR: Take what their webchat says with a grain of salt.
