Went to my local Aldi today to get some more coffee beans and noticed it was now $14.99, up from the $11.99.
Odd though was the dark roast still had the old price of $11.99 per kg.
Anyone else noticed the price hike?

nooooooo
Nah still worth, I’ve tried a whole bunch of random supermarket options and the ALDI one is head and shoulders above all so far imo
How about against OzB regulars like Blue Lime / Inglewood etc?
Haven't really tried those cafe ones - sensory lab (pretty famous) does beans and ground coffee at coles now and I've tried two bags of it and still rate the ALDI one over it.
I rate Lime Blue and wish it was what I'm drinking right now. However, with even the cheaper bean roasters (Lime Blue/Arjo) sneaking up to +$30 1kg delivered now I'm shopping Aldi currently.
I have switched to Daley street from Coles. Its expensive as the bags are only 200g, $5 a bag when half price. But they list the roast date on pack, and every time i've bought it, it has been less than a month old. And taste/smell is really good.
I didn't mind Aldi dark roast and also thought it was the best of all supermarket options. But all those <$30 fresh roasted deals spoiled me, now it is just OK/boring..
All Aldi's Lazzio beans have the roast date on the pack and I've never seen anything older than 2-3 weeks
Since when? They only ever had a best before when I was buying. But supposedly it was 15 months so you could work out the roast date..
@nubzy: It's in the same block of printing. There are three lines, the middle line is the roasting date in reverse order and the third date is the best before. Not sure what the first line is. So a batch roasted today would show:
ABC123XYZ
20220907
07 DEC 2023
I bought a bag of Lazzio Brazil yesterday and the roast date was 20220827… that bag is just 10 days old
I’ll have to check my local Aldi and buy a couple of extra if they haven’t gone up in price yet.
I knew that a Coffee bean price increase was inevitable, but wasn’t sure when they would filter through to customers.
They wont be as fresh though, not sure if you freeze them
I often buy two 1kg bags at a time and I’ve never really noticed a difference in freshness straight out of a the sealed pack. After opening I transfer the beans into an airtight container which lives in the pantry. Our family gets through 1kg within about two weeks.
filter through to customers
I see what you did there.
To your point around the dark roast still being the cheaper price -
I think the dark roast has robusta but the medium roast is 100% arabica? At least, that's what my current 500g bag of Aldi medium dark says.
But as others have said, the media have been reporting a global price increase on coffee for a while now, so it was inevitable
It's not about the price increase but lack of variety, Aldi seems struggling to get the single origin with only the Brazil variety available on occasion in the last few months, the Columbian one is the nicest of the bunch but pitty can't get it now.
Their single origins are seasonal. Autumn and Winter is when they stock Brazil & Columbia. We're just starting the next season which is why it's hard to come by them at the moment. In a few weeks they'll be onto their Spring & Summer rotation of Peru and Chile
I know that, but they usually do brazil/Honduras or Columbia/Peru rotation, now only 1 variety left so who knows what next. They definitely can stock all 4 as there were 4 varieties released last months with July roast date. It is an economic reason not seasonal thing as raw bean can be stored for years in right conditions.
I thought raw bean was good for about a year
I have just created a poll to capture these price increases. Aldi is getting expensive and these price rises aren’t going unnoticed.
Aldi Lazzio Dark Roast is excellent and a good price, even at $15/kg.
I bought these beans just recently and were very disappointed
No crema from the beans whatsoever
Will definitely be going back to the Fonzie Abott beans
Fonzie Abott beans ARE THE WORST EVER. THEY TASTE LIKE DIRTY SOCKS LEFT IN THE RAIN. DON'T BUY THEM!!! AVOID!!!
Hi guys,
Anyone using medium roast with barista express? Can I learn inner and outer grinder settings please?
I think it will vary even between grinders of the same model. If it's taking more than 30 seconds to extract 35g of coffee then grind coarser; if it's taking less than 25 seconds then grind finer. You should be able to find the right level within a few test shots, and then I find that Aldi coffee is quite consistent between batches. This assumes you're using the single-walled basket, not the pressurised one.
the single origin ones have gone up too, 17.99
