  • VA vs IPS?

    • +3

VA is a bit of a jack of all trades panel and does a lot of things really well without being overly standout.
IPS has better color, contrast, and contrast than other panels, and is the most popular panel type now, especially for gaming and content creation.

      • +7

        IPS has better color, contrast

        ?

        • +5

My mistake, by contrast I mean in comparison to the deeper blacks you tend to get with modern IPS panels.

VA panels will have a better ratio of contrast (3000:1 compared to 1000:1 for a regular IPS).

Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge.

        • Lol dodge ballz

      • I got one of these last week, for 270 approx. the back light bleeds pretty attrocious, that being said, it's a 220$ monitor so, can't complain.

  • Thoughts about the 27" VA vs IPS? Interesting that the VA monitor has a much higher RRP

    • +1

The VA monitor has a much higher contrast ratio, is curved, and has an adjustable height stand, whereas the IPS model is flat and has a fixed stand.

As far as I can tell, that's about it though! In my experience with both, the picture is pretty similar for most users, though if you do any photo editing / graphics work you may find the heightened contrast ratio on the VA panel to suit best. Keep in mind that IPS panels do have deeper blacks so colours and lighter shades may stand out a bit better than other panels.

      • which of both is best for watching movies or reading books, comics etc for the best colours?

        • +4

I'd go for an IPS, tend to have better colours and viewing angles.

  • is 1080p good for 27inch or 24inch better at 1080p?

    • +1

Depends on what you're using it for, really. 27" is really about as large as you want to go at 1080p, any higher starts to look a bit pixelated.

      Both are totally fine, though!

Thank you for the quick replying replied above asking about best for movies, reading comics etc for colors and long hours between va and ips which is best? since you've mentioned the va is best for photo editing / graphics work is that because its most true to color ?

        • +1

I'd go for the IPS in that instance, especially for video watching!

        • Generally IPS is the best for graphics work due to it generally having better colours, and the viewing angles not distorting the colours (however I find the viewing angles much more distracting than VA at smaller angles in dark scenes as it makes the already pretty grey contrast very grey & glowy)

VA has better contrast (as in difference between black&white), but has dark level smearing which can be rather distracting in games or if you use dark mode.

27" is really about as large as you want to go

        That's what she said.

    • +3

No get 1440p 144hz or 4k 60hz. Night and day difference at 27 inch. It's not that much more to upgrade and you'll be set for a few more years. IPS is nicer, but if you're colour blind like me get a cheaper TN.

      • Thank you for your reply, whats difference between IPS and TN?

        • +2

Historically TN was best for competitive FPS as it had the fastest response time, but now IPS has 1ms, so I'm not sure. IPS has best colours and viewing angles. TN looks faded from the side or below, like if you watch from bed.

Great prices but shipping takes a lot of the shine off

  • +7

    $60 standard delivery.. yikes!
Just go for the Acer VG271S at Officeworks for $247. Better IPS panel with no wait for delivery if your local store has stock.

Some good deals, but a TN (4K) screen aint one of them!

  • Which one is better for playing FPS games?

    • Anything with 1ms response and 144hz+ refresh rate. Pros turn there graphics down below 1080p to maximize frame rate. If you play other games get 1440 or 4k on top.

      • +1

Nothing besides OLED has 1ms response times, it's a shitty marketing point

    • IPS, as cheap VA panels tend to suffer from dark smearing

  • Is the 4K 28" good for PS5?

    • -1

      Doesn't have HDMI 2.1 inputs.

  • I'd go for aoc 24g2 tbh, 27in curved especially at 1080p doesn't make much sense to me. VA smearing is an automatic turn off since I always use dark mode for sites.

  • Pulled the trigger on the VA thinking it was 1440p, then pulled the trigger on the 28” 4K instead.

Now hoping Scorps will be as willing to give back my money as I was to give it away.

  • A silly question. I have a work laptop and home PC. Can I connect the laptop via USBC to HP 42.5' and extend the display, e.g. use the laptops and 1/4 slice of the big monitor while the rest is connected to a home PC? How does the home PC know that there is 3 more workspaces to be used? Does Windows recognise this as 4 different screens? Thank you.

Not listed here but if you want the 27" curved at 1440p instead of 1080, they have the HP X27QC for $269. I was going to get the 23" but upping both the resolution and size for $100 is worth it for my use case.

Any chance of a HP X27q, the hardware unboxed favourite. Or a comparable budget non curved 1440p IPS

  • Would the 42" monitor be okay for programming connected to a Macbook Pro?

  • Op, you got any 32 inch for sale mate?

  • Can the stand of IPS version be removed for dual mounting?

  • +1

Hi Rep, any idea if HP is selling the X27Q in Australia?

  • Shipping is high.

  • I bought the UHD 28". Noice!

  • Can I connect 2 of these via usb-c to a Macbook Air for work?

  • +1

I want to set up 2 monitors for office work
    Whats the sweet spot?
(Tried to google for an answer but not successful)
    Any clues appreciated…

      Same boat…still thinking - One 32" OR two 24"
