Or if you're on a budget, alternate that works fine for me https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B09BZJQVMF/ref=ox_sc_ac…
Just over $20 with coupon applied and holds my yeti X fine.

How's the springs on that, If you move it around does the mic hold the position or does the spring want to pull it upwards?

      • +2

Not that the PSA1 performs super well in that area. Do a quick google and find the numerous issues people have with wobble and lifting, myself included. If I could do it again, I'd get a cheap one like the one willy posted, or spend real ($250+) money on an actually well made one.

        • Interesting, had mine a week and haven't experienced any of those issues.

          • @Cheaplikethebird: Maybe with a suitably heavy microphone + other hardware its not so much of an issue. I've tightened the adjustment screw to its max and I still get the microphone lifting when I try to move it down a small amount.

And I'm sure if you push the microphone backwards, the entire assembly wobbles in the mount - this is a design flaw that everyone can experience without a doubt.

@Kill Joy: Yeah okay that makes sense, if you're using a lighter mic that would be the reason. I'm using the NT-USB.

              • @Cheaplikethebird: Using the Procaster with this since 2017 and haven't had any issues like this either. Still works just as well as the day I got it

Holds my yeti X wherever i leave it, doesnt sag either which is surprising.

Might have been a better option than my IKEA hack then :)! https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/tertial-work-lamp-dark-grey-503…
It's barely strong enough to hold my Snowball ICE …

          • @FrontBottom: haha oh geez thats….something…

For the price, can't beat that neewer one for 20 bucks, obviously don't expect quality but you get what you pay for and it actually holds well.

I've had my yeti x mounted a few different ways, this is how I currently have it as I can see over it and doesn't obstruct my view, I swing it out when I wanna use it and just push it whatever position I need it and it stays with 0 movement. https://i.imgur.com/3jULnzN.jpg

bought something similar, broke within the year, the arm's metal in which you insert into the clamp is thin and cheap, doesn't hold up to frequent movement + panning up/down/left/right, would not recommend unless you never move your mic

      • Exact same here. The metal insert started bending and eventually snapped off. Don't recommend unless it's very still

    • +4

Wouldn't recommend that, I had one before and it damaged my desk because of the poorly designed vice grip thingy. Screws came loose, springs came off and just had so many issues.

Bought this to replace it and it's so much better in every way (doesn't squeak, build quality is great, feels sturdy, and stays in place), different design but at least it is quality and won't break on you

  • I am hoping to see ozbargain talents converting Ikea desk lamp holder into this.

I had the cheapo neewer one from Amazon and regret ever buying it. It would be okay if you had a small desk and never wanted to move your mic around.

I have a large desk and want to move the mic, so the arm failed me on both those requirements. I upgraded to this guy when it was on sale for $70 and have loved it ever since. Similar design to the Rode, although I'd expect the Rode to be a little better put together.

  • If you want a replica of the PSA1 (good length - less mobility)

    usually around $30-$70

    https://www.amazon.com.au/lehom-Microphone-Adjustable-Snowba…

These work fine, if you're swinging left or right. If you want to adjust up & down, it's abit more difficult (slightly stiff).

Lots of examples of cheaper alternatives, this one is cheaper and arguably better.

    Samson MBA38

    • I have this one. You want to have a heavy microphone (I have the samson g-track pro on it) as the springs are very strong. At $85 it's a bargain too.

  • I have seen 3rd party sellers selling this exact item for around $50 on amazon. You can spot the deception by their 'new' status, or all 1 star ratings for items never showing up. I have been watching this for months however this is actually sold by Amazon so it's legit, that makes this an absolute bargain.

  • This has the advantage of having the swivel point on the clamp is ON the desk rather than off the desk (like a lot of the cheaper models), means it doesn't start sliding the clamp off the desk when you adjust the arm over time especially on a heavier mic like the Rode Podmic

    • +1

If the clamp is sliding then you need to tighten it more or introduce more friction between either sides of the clamp and the desk with some no slip material.

  • I purchased this same item, same seller for $50.50 about 2 months ago. Postage time was about 2 weeks, so adequate. Package was delivered to wrong suburb, couriers fault (aus post), not the seller's.
Seller communication was good, offered to refund or re send, I didn't follow it up because, lazy.
Point is, I feel this product from this seller goes on sale often, I am dubious if product is genuine as product origin is China. Maybe Rode make these in China.
I am a little suss on seller/product still.

    • That’s exactly how that scam is played
