This may be of limited appeal. Much cheaper than locally where they are ~$240 each. Originally had the Russel & Hobbs ones which broke. Wanted something longer term and of better Quality and got these from the UK via Amazon AU. Been very happy with them and the adjustment for grinding levels.

Looks like it runs on nuclear power to justify the price

Maybe get the Toyota Salt and Pepper Mill instead.

their manual mills aren’t cheap either but are great ……that ones in this deal have the “u select” mechanism ….you dial in the coarseness and it’s set, don’t have to readjust when you refill with pepper which is the case with many other mechanisms.

problem is don’t need a salt mill ….salt doesn’t go stale so no need to grind fresh , and use iodised salt anyway.

Why not just have one of your servants grind your pepper for you?

I am but a simple man. When dining out I'll let the peasants grind my pepper for me, but at home the dobermans will chase them away, so I'm forced to grind my own pepper. Rather than risk my manicure with all this twisting hither and fro I find this contraption allows me to maintain my composure whilst providing a comparable taste to peasant ground pepper.

In reality these are a big help for people with reduced mobility. Definitely limited appeal, but for different reasons than you'd expect.

      • i have peugeot and marlux manual mills, electric would just be handy when doing smoker roasts due to amount of pepper needed ……

but yes for people with physical issues e.g arthritis , etc electric are great

This may be of limited appeal.

    That's an understatement.

They should stick to designing cars….
    …..then again, maybe they shouldn’t

    • +2

Peugeot was originally a pepper grinder company that made cars, not the other way around :)

      • thought you were joking…now i doubt everything i thought i knew

Similar production in Aliexpress for only $15 ?! Unless the seller can prove their product last 10 times longer than the Aliexpress one?

    • Required 4 AAA that kill my appetite.

My 2001 version is still running strong and they still be running on 2041.

  • Battery operated mills are generally heavy and shyte. "supplied with 6 batteries", so 3 each?

And all that metal area is just a big battery cover, a waste of space.

Don't forget to wear your RM Williams while grinding with these.

  • What a price!

  • Out of curiosity, what is the difference between this and any other run-of-the-mill (pun intended) salt/pepper grinder? What makes this 'high quality' and so expensive?

    • peugeot and marlux are the 2 big french pepper mill manufacturers. I have a 55 year old marlux, 4 year old peugeot and 2 year old ol’ thompson mill. the peugeot and marlux give a good grind range and amount of pepper per turn ….the ol’ thompson often doesn’t get pepper in the mechanism and i need to shake it ……. for the $50-$100 for peugeot on amazon depending on size of peugeot they will last a lifetime , or in my case the marlux is inherited from my mum and i used to use it as a child ….and the peugeot has good grind range and mechanism fills well but wanted a bigger mill than my marlux. the marlux has beautiful sheen from the oil it has absorbed over the years from the pepper corns and also hand grinding them, a patina. have multiple grinders for multiple peer types, black, white, green and mixed.

grind is important as you want coarse for carbonara or coating a steak, but fine in mashed potatoes or honey carrots, etc.

i use a lot of pepper …. im the guy that picks out the pepper packs from the aldi special buys box and leaves the salt ….coles and woolies pepper is about $25kg, salt is about $3kg.

somebody else beats me to the whole olives and leaves the pitted ones and there is one whole jar to very 4 pitted in the aldi boxes …. check coles shelf for whole olives instead of pitted, hard to get except at deli.

can’t comment on their electric mills as i’d be worried flat battery just when i need it so i wouldn’t have just an electric mill, as but the manual mills are great.

salt mills ….i buy iodised salt in the plastic shaker from coles

  • i think you meant to post this ozconspicouswealth.com.au???

is only conspicuous if you position the electric grinders on the table under down lights so that glare makes your guests notice, else it looks like the $10 ones from woolies…..conspicuous like wearing short sleeve shirt in winter so people see your rolex

      • yes to all of the above….

  • Was going to ask what type of salt /brand/where to buy people put in their grinders.
I got a pair of Peugeot that are about 20 years old and always struggle to get a decent amount of salt out of it. I assumed the regular sea or rock salt in the shops is too “soft” and it’s getting gummed up in the grinder?
But as other people mentioned, regular pre-ground iodised in the white shaker is great which is what I have been doing for a few years now.
