My phone costs less then this

  • Not bad considering it may or may not get Wear OS 3, and that can get a Fossil Gen 5 from JB Hi-fi on clearance for 130 to 150 odd bucks.

    • +1

Obviously you have no idea about smart watches if you even compare this to a Fossil Gen 5

      • +2

I was comparing prices. I do know what the specs are, and that the 4100 is massively improved in nm process compared to the 3100 28nm process and old cores. And other sensors.

I was purely comparing it from a price point to others that may or may not be cross-shopping an older generation.

Don't even get me started on how much I know about smart watches, and how I'm one of the mods on the WearOS Reddit. You're barking up the wrong tree.

        • Why would you compare two items where one costs roughly double as much? Where the technology is different. The generation. And pretty much everything else m

          • @dosada: Because someone might not want all the sensors or newer features.

Someone might not be that invested to pay that much for a WearOS watch over Samsung.

WearOS does fine as long as it's 1GB RAM or more.

          • +1

@dosada: But they all still only run Wear OS 2.

I'm watching a few reviews and they keep saying it will come out late 2022. These guys are just repeating from Mobvoi provides. I also found another website that mentioned it also. Although this will never be 100% until its released (in saying this google watch is still waiting), I don't think mobvoi is going to piss off customers buying their flagship devices.

As far as the Fossil Gen 5, a quick google to compare and it seems that watch is similar to the 3 pro and not the ultra (apples with apples). It looks like this is closer to the Fossil Q

      • No guarantees and Montblanc summit 3 is only non Samsung watch that has launched with wear 3. Ticwatch models and fossil gen 6 like you said are getting lip service from customer service reps at the moment, cos no one knows when the update is coming.

Ticwatch all got 4100 and not 4100+ with the co processor tat fossil gen 6 got. Fossil gen 5 Is older 3100 and 1gb ram generation, fossil gen 4.5 is 3100 and 512mb ram, fossil gen 4 2100 and 512mb ram so on and so forth. I'm just comparing the prices you pay for runout models versus the pricing on this newer generation of ticwatch with the 4100

With W5 chips already slated for the next gen watches from various makers, I would not want to bet that google will bother to update current non Wear OS 3 watches. But as long as ppl understand the risk (especially since google assistant is borked on non wear OS 3 watches) ……

          • @gadget: That's it. Google assistant not being present on the Montblanc summit 3 with Wear OS 3 just seems like an admission of failure to me.

I don't think wearOS 2.x watches will stop working overnight, much like android tv devices Oreo and before are still going .but yeah not good signs for the current non-Samsung manufacturers at the moment, when it comes to WearOS

            • +1

@adrianhughes1998: agreed. I was only referring to core functions of google assistant that have not worked as advertised for like 2 years now.

              • +1

@gadget: Google assistant has been fundamentally useless for years on WearOS for sure. I get that smart displays and smartwatches had pared-down versions of Assistant, but when it doesn't even work properly with the basics… Sigh

Shame cos fossil group has put so much into making the watch lines look good across their brands (Skagen, Michael Kors, diesel) - just for google to wreck it.

  • Vibration motor is really bad.

    • +5

You're right, it's shit, but it does the job.

And if the vibration motor is the worst thing one can pick on the watch for, it's doing alright.

  • Google Wallet will not work on these, it replaced Google Pay recently, you have no choice to put Google Pay back now.

    • +1

Does it just not work? I can see Google Wallet installed, and the app opens - but haven't tried paying with it

    • Saw that over on Reddit. Pretty horrendous if you ask me.

What Google giveth, google taketh away. Or just bugs out.

      Thanks Google.

    • Google Wallet does still work, you just need update/reinstall it. I use it every day to tap and pay for transportation.

Thanks OP! I was hoping to get this model on sale. I saw the sale yesterday and was going to hold off. Didn't realise I could get the extra 10% off via Student Beans - this was enough for me to pull the trigger on it! Cheers
