  • Any idea how long battery life is? And even standby time

Daily user since July 2021 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/637617. Battery still just lasts from 6:30am to 11:30pm with AOD on and no exercise or HR monitoring, longer with it off.

TicWatch E3 $259.99 (up to 100% Cashback by Completing 21-Day Exercise Program, Twitter Required) @ Mobvoi

Whoa, what an interesting deal! Did you end up getting the full cashback?

As another person on that bandwagon - my wife and I both received full cashbacks. She decided she didn't want the watch and sold it. I'm still using mine.

My review: it's great for basic functions, and for $100 I'd consider buying another one.

I know that's not exactly a ringing endorsement, but my entire use case is to leave my phone on silent and still see notifications as they arrive - and on that basis, it works well (with an aftermarket metal band - the stock silicone one feels awful IMO).

The interface can be a bit sluggish and clunky at times, but it gets the job done. WearOS isn't the most wonderful thing, but at least there's a broad selection of apps and excellent integration with Android phones. And payments via NFC has been handy occasionally.

I much prefer to have a decent-looking 'fashion' watch rather than a fitness band, but I don't care one jot about the health functions.

          • @klaw81: Thanks for the review!

Amazon just shipped it and will be arriving tomorrow. Gotta love that lightning fast shipping!

This will be my second smart watch since my Pebble got taken during a home burglary in 2016 (joke's on them - they forgot to take the proprietary charging cable!).

This watch fits the bill with NFC and GPS - I was looking for a cheap watch to track fitness/health during my cycling training and commutes (~94km return trip - yeah everyone thinks I'm crazy!), but also to use NFC to pay for public transport if the weather turns to shit (or if I get jelly legs haha).

      • Thanks

  • Wonder if the Google Pay NFC will actually work in this country. I had a watch by them a few years ago, GREAT watch, but it said it was rooted and wouldn't support NFC, which kinda sucked major ass funnily enough, other than that, great watch. I'd bite at this for a hundo if NFC in Aus was confirmed.

    • I have used NFC payments through Google Pay many times - it does work.

      • Sweet. Might pick one of these bad boys up after work.

How does it go, can you save your bank card to it, or does it need to be within range of your phone? The watch I had had a whole SIM slot on it so this was never a concern for me. tbh most of my smart watches have actually been smart phones with a wrist strap now that I think about it. All the way back to the 2G DZ09.

If you have already set up Google Pay on your phone, it arrives on your watch once you sign in. It works entirely stand-alone, without a phone being present.

Just like a phone, it doesn't need a constant connection to validate - but does require an occasional connection to the network to update its validation.

          • @klaw81: That's sick.

Bought one based on this, @ticwatch give this man a commission!

  • my E3 died after 3 years of super light use…

    • -1

3 years is reasonable for a budget electronic device in my opinion.

      • it was around $250 when i got it at first launch

        • -1

That's still budget for an Android Wear watch.

The batterys in smart watches are tiny (for the specs of the hardware). They're going to have a short lifespan.

      • My $250 garmin smartwatch is still in perfect condition after 5 years

  • Paid double that a few years back but the top button caught on something and broke so I moved on to a different smartwatch.

  • Any suggestions that come with blood pressure function?

    • I don't think there's any that have been certified as accurate without an inflating cuff. But head to aliexpress or your other favourite Chinese tat store and you'll find some that claim to measure it. Mostly stating they're "Medical Grade" but I'd take that with a pinch of salt. Start at about $50. I got one and it's quite neat but now sitting in a drawer. Can't remember the brand, sorry.

      • Thanks

  • was looking for something cheap but can still do NFC. Looks perfect! thanks!
