Great price delivered! I got mine for $119 last year.

    • One day delivery for me as well based on post code 3161. Yay!

  • +8

MX500 is a workhorse and $110 for a TB is always a good deal.

  • +1

    MX500 is pretty much a Hyper 212X.

Gets the job done at a good price.

    • +7

Except the MX500 does really good unlike the outdated Hyper 212X.

      • What other cooler would you recommend for $60?

        • +4

Vetroo V5 is $50 on Amazon and about the same. Best budget cooler 2021 according to GamersNexus.

          • @AusRetro: I think the white one is $39 right now with the $10 off coupon.

          • @AusRetro: Thanks. Too late for my build, but helping a mate select parts for a build atm

        • Deepcool AK400

      • +1

But for years, the Hyper 212X was the king of budget coolers. I think they're just referring to that legendary status.

Got this price during prime day but for 97 dollars by stacking those shopback gift cards and cashrewards choice gift cards. Great ssd! Recommend

Just bought one yesterday for $69.9 from a third party seller

    • Sounds solid. Can you share the link?

    • +16

That is one of the scam sellers, I suggest you cancel that order asap

      • What kind of scam? Do they not send you the product?

        • +2

Unfortunately new dodgy sellers start up all the time, I was looking at the listing two days ago and I have seen quite a few that look the same. No reviews and sales history or only a few reviews stating they never received the items they purchased.
Just be careful with new third party sellers, check reviews and history before spending your hard earned money.

          • @BilboBargains: I bought 2 yesterday now the seller's all listing's are gone. Seemed like a good deal for $69.99 each
Should I wait and see if Amazon fulfils the order

            • +1

@maaz: You will need to check if the items were fulfilled by Amazon or the seller. If it's the seller fulfilling your order and all his listing's have been removed this flag's to me dodgy! Amazon may have caught up with the potential dodgy seller.
I would check asap and cancel your order if you fall under the above scenario.

            • +1

@maaz: If you get the goods great, if not Amazon will refund ….. you can't loose ….just check when it ships …… still waiting for my tissues from Amazon 2 weeks after placing order …. I'm not in a hurry and it's probably stock issue.

            • @maaz: FYI:I purchased one Saturday night, the CC was billed straight away and then got advised there would be a delay in shipping even though it showed "being prepared for dispatch". I cancelled the order and contacted Amazon via chat since this is not fulfilled through Amazon they action-ed a refund on the credit card. The seller no longer shows up on Amazon.

              • @RichardZed: Mine apparently hasnt been shipped yet, i ordered another from KS Computer listing for $108.90 (10c winning)

Will see if it gets fulfilled eventually or it never gets sent, still if i do end up getting it for $70 ill be laughing

          • @BilboBargains: Original seller Australian sales kingdom has been removed but already there is another listing for this at $70, seller named Walmart Store's and they have zero history or feedback. Amazon must be struggling to keep these scammers under control.

        • they don't, and also tend to enter a fake tracking #. still easy enough to get your money back, just a bit of a hassle.

          • @harro112: I did contact Amazon, they said that will have to wait till 9 Sep as cut off date and then the refund will be processed. I got an email from the seller later on saying that they have delivered it to the wrong address so they will be issuing a refund. clearly a scam as the tracking number doesn't show any activity

      • +2

Spotted the same seller the other day. All their listings looked dodgy AF. Surprised they weren't shut down straight away by Amazon.

Is a crucial p2 nvme SSD better than this?

I'm looking to put either a p2 or mx500 into an external / portable SSD enclosure to plug into for video recording.

    • +6

The p2 suffers from poor writing sustained speeds I believe. And they downgraded the nand at some point in its life. The mx is tried and true. Probably a solid pick

      https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crucial-p2-m-2-nvme-ssd

      • wow that's some good info, dodgy swap for reduced performance.

Does anyone have a recommendation on SSD enclosure for this? planning to stick it in the glove box.

      • +1

can an nvme drive be worse than a SATA ssd? is that possible?

asking because i have limited options in my motherboard slots. looking for m.2

        • +3

Yes of course…there are plenty that are much slower under sustained writes.

        • Yep. Really depends on the type of flash used, the size of the cache etc.

Some older mid/high end SATA SSDs spank cheaper M2s for sustained writes especially random (IOPS) writes (lots of small files etc).

There's other M.2 drives that don't cost much more than the P2 though that'll be substantially faster/better for this though.

    • I prefer to stay away from p2 and would rather get the Kingston A2000/NV1 compared to the P2

  • I didnt even really need this but got one anyway

  • +3

Definitely solid ssd for gaming, nvme is still sorta pointless (all dozen star citizen players about to chime in) since Direct Storage is still nowhere to be found and will likely never be patched into already released games that no longer get updated.

On a semi related note, this makes me wonder when/if mx500/samsung sata ssds will consistently be under 100 bucks/TB. 2020/2021 had massive spikes in memory prices due to covid but it's since recovered. Even gen 4 nvme drives are steadily falling. The dream would be ssds completely replacing hdds for everything, they're already better for speed, capacity is pretty much on par with some data center drives going up to 100tb in 3.5' form factor but price isn't there yet.

    • I think demand is still too high for the price to drop but that would be the dream. If ssd were on par with hdd it would be a game changer

    • +3

just tier your storage …. I have NVME for boot and frequently used stuff, have SATA SSD 1TB for back-up of critical stuff and frequent games, 4TB HDD for in frequent games which I move to SATA SSD if I start playing again, and steam updates them all regardless of tier.

  • Can I put this inside my Lenovo x1 carbon laptop or do I need an m2 size

    • +3

Best to look up your model and check first

    • Is your laptop just slow? Or have other issues.

      • I bought the 256 GB so I could upgrade myself

        • Oh ok.what is exact model of your laptop

    • The Crucial website has a compatibility checker if you know your laptop's model number

  • -7

    Ahh, nice antiques

  • I have purchased few of these to replace in old laptops. No issues at all. Work great and good value for money.

    • +1

      Ditto. Workhorse SSD.

  • Cheers OP. Always handy to have a 1tb ssd floating around.

  • one thing to add, i own both bx and mx series, i can feel mx series is quicker not just copy speed faster even quicker on opening word, excel and outlook

    so buy MX

    • I had been eyeing off the BX for the past couple of weeks, glad this came down and decided that the extra $14 over what I was going to spend is worthwhile. Even better to hear your real world opinion.

      • you nailed it

  • is 2tb $219 a good price?

  • How does the SSD Clone work mentioned in OP? Is it really quick and easy?

    • +3

Macrium reflect is also a free app (personal use) that can help you image a drive. Very easy to use. I transferred my 500GB to 1TB just the other night and had done so when I went from 128GB to 500GB.

      • i can vouch for macrium reflect. brilliant software that saved me from a failure. i was so impressed, i paid for it and use it every month for my backups. recommended.

    • This software did not work for me. Just failed without any complains…

    • I think aside from the other Cloning software mentioned above, Crucial SSD owners can get access to Acronis True Image which can clone the entire OS files from the old SSD/HDD to the new one as long as one of them is Crucial product. No backup function though as you have to pay for it.

I haven’t set it up myself (waiting for my SATA to USB cable to be shipped from Amazon) but by the look of it Acronis is pretty straightforward and user friendly.

  • How does this compare to a 1 TB Samsung SATA SSD (whichever model is sort of equivalent - I'm not up to date on these things). I have two Samsung M.2 NVME SSDs in my laptop (also an Acer Nitro 5) and the fairly crap 1TB SATA HDD that came with the laptop. Wondering if it's worth shelling out a bit more for a Samsung SATA SSD to replace the 2.5 HDD.

I think part of it is that I'm just a little bit attached to the idea of keeping everything Samsung. I have no experience with Crucial or their software etc.

Linus Tech Tips SSD Tier List
scroll down past 1/3 of the page for SSD rankings. Samsung 850 Pro > Crucial MX500 = Samsung 850 EVO

    • As someone who also has exclusively Samsung SSDs (was a 840 Pro + Evo combo before NVME, now 970 Evos in my rig only, no SATA drives), I still highly rate Crucial and have used them in many builds in the past for friends/family etc. Just pick the decent ones! The MX500 is a decent one! As Jaydee4 said it's just basically equiv to the Samsung Evo line.

    • These are great laptop SSD's, and it'll smash your HDD for speed, noise, heat, power, etc. The main Q for you is capacity.

  • Are people using these as storage drives?
My 240gb from 2014 is not even half full. I still use optical HDDs as storage though

    • +1

This kind of SSD is good for game storages etc, loads fast enough and cheaper than store it in NVMe SSDs

    • Drives are cheap enough these days that a lot of people are using an NVME drive as their main OS and a 1TB SSD as their steam/xbox/epic/etc. storage.

    • Yeah I went through with couples of modern PC games and it was like 80-100GB per game so they filled my stock 512GB NVMe SSD pretty quick.

      • +1

Strewth, it's been a while since last gamed. I thought 20gb was a lot!

        • Same here. I haven't touched any PC games for almost 7 years as I played my games on various consoles. I remembered the time when game installations were 40-50GB and I was like "gezzz that was heavy" but now I was like "well that was not too bad".

    • Optical hdd??
As in rewritable DVDs or something?

      • TIL the disk in a HDD isn't an optical disk

  • This or Samsung's QVO/EVO?

    Thanks!

    • Just look up a little bit and you'll see my last post.

    • TLC is faster than QLC

  • Great drive , I've been using timetec 1tb seem fast n reliable at 89.95 for 1tb a bargain

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Timetec-800TBW-Speed-Performance-I…

Can't speak for m.2 nvme they get poor rap on heat but sata reviews good

Umart do have silicon power 1tb ATM 91 bux quality unsure

    • The Timetec is considered to be a DRAM-less cache so sustained writes will suffer

  • +2

I got this drive for $96 from a recent deal and installed it into a laptop and it's been great.

FYI use Macrium Reflect (free) and a SATA to USB cable to clone your existing HDD to the new SSD and then swap the drives over.

    • I had wanted to do this too but my laptop up and died by the time I freed up an SSD from upgrading my other PCs lol

  • And OOS. Updated the deal. Hopefully this will be the new RRP for this awesome SSD.

  • Doesn't fit in my x1 carbon

  • It's back in stock

  • +1

Just ordered the MX500 from Amazon (link: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B078211KBB/ref=ppx_od_d…) and was sent a BX500 instead.

Amazon sticker on the packaging has it listed as MX500 but the box and drive label itself are both BX500, make sure you double check what you are sent

    • +1

Same thing happened to me, see below

      • Amazon gave me a $20 credit and arranged a return but I ended up using the drive for a different project, still a bummer..

  • +1

Its back up again, some listings for "Walmart Store" and others for about $70 as well. Seems like they cant keep them away

    • Lol cma superstore selling these for 59.99

      • Are these legit mx500? I purchased one from cma Superstore and it's coming mid sept but I'm wary it's a scam or theyre gonna send me a bx500.

        Let's see

        • let me know, im curious, never bought from newly launched stores on amazon

          • @kehuehue: I got the shivers and ended up cancelling the order today. It's still pending the cancellation, but I hope I have avoided being scammed.

The price being so low and the shop being so new smelt too fishy for me.

  • Mine just arrived…..what the actual?

    https://ibb.co/1bW3hcp
    https://ibb.co/qynkHGn

    • Mind posting your link to the image again? What seemed to be wrong though?
Edit: I just checked and my link seems to jump to an Amazon seller named HNSLDFY?!

      • Take note of the barcode on the packaging vs what the packaging actually says
The link is photos I just uploaded to https://imgbb.com/

    • Just contact Amazon for a refund. That is definitely not the right SSD!

      • +1

Already have didn't have an option for a Replacement only a Refund

        • +1

Yeah I can tell. Suss seller for sure. One review of 1* on this Store Page. Remember to downvote that store once you've received your refund.
