The easiyo yoghurt makers are pretty cheap when they're half price from the supermarkets and these yoghurt powders are completely unnecessary to make yoghurt, just need some natural yoghurt with live cultures.

    • That's what we do. Use UHT milk, so we don't need to sterilise it, then use 150g of the Procal Greek Yoghurt.

Milk powder is good too (can also use more milk powder to water to make the yoghurt thicker). 150g of starter per pot? That sounds like a lot?

        • I agree with the milk powder. I like my Yogurt to be, very, thick. We use a litre of UHT milk, 150 g of the Yoghurt and some milk powder then put in the Instant Pot, pot in pot, for 12 hours. It makes a lovely thick Yoghurt that stands up for quite a while with only a little bit of watery breakdown.

          • @try2bhelpful: Yeah nice. Topping up UHT with milk powder also works.

But I think you could save some money by using less starter. You can actually freeze starter in ice cube blocks and use that in the easiyo.

            • @dust: We use live culture Yoghurt as our starter; we use Procol Greek Yoghurt because I like the taste. Not sure freezing is good for the live culture. Happy to be corrected.

@try2bhelpful: Freezing works just fine. There will be a sufficient number of live bacteria. I usually freeze supermarket yoghurt when fresh, then use cubes as a starter for months. Also 150g is overkill. 20-25g per 1 litre milk is enough.

                • @bio: YMMV. I’ve tried less. Thanks for suggestion though.

                  • @try2bhelpful: Fair enough. I have only used Jalna Natural and not tried Procol Greek Yoghurt before, so it is possible that it has less live bacteria per ml than Jalna.

@bio: I just found anything less a touch thin for my liking. But thanks for giving me the information, always appreciated.

@bio: I use more than 150g of various yoghurt from super markets with full cream or skim milk, the end product is always watery.
I ended up adding 1/3 packet of EasiYo yoghurt powder to make it thicker. I really mix them well and use an electric yoghurt maker.
                  What did I do wrong?

@Jamesx: I always end up with watery yoghurt when I use fresh milk. Just try UHT next time.

i'm assuming 80% ozb have already owned the yogurt maker. Maybe Easiyo can give discount on the yogurt powder.
