I have my 3080 ti purchase for $2.5k last August ingrained in my soul.

    • +2

      😂

    • +4

      Get a tattoo :-D

    • +15

Weren't you the one who doesn't have a car, but buys a $2.5k videocard 😅

      • +12

He rides the card to work daily. It has 3 wheels after all. 😅

      • +2

It's a high yield investment video card.

        • Haven't seen this meme in a while.

          • @Azro: Did we ever see a follow-up on which car he decided to buy?

    • +1

      sames

    • +3

You had the fun with the card earlier than us who been hodling

      • +4

Was it worth 100 a month is the question. That is assuming you dont care about new card release and buy 1 now.

        • +8

I use it ~16 hours a day for work and leisure, so I'd say… yes!

        • if you have a lot of money, why bother with just silly $100 a month? something to think about my friend.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: Its about fighting for the community ;) Everyone keeps buying, nvidia keeps rising the price. More people will miss out.

            • @[Deactivated]: Rich people don't care about $1k saving in a year. its paltry money for them.

              • +3

@[Deactivated]: Its not about rich, its priorities. Someone would invest that 1 extra K into something more profitable.

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: she invested that 1k on her work and leisure, that's worth more than most.

                • +5

@[Deactivated]: We all have our priorities. You have a car and spend heaps on that a year. I don't have a car, so no car expenses and have no need for it.

                  • @okbianca: That is exactly what I said, different people have different priorities. Btw, I mostly use e-bike over my car for commute. But if my car was 80% over RRP and could manage with my current Car, I would HODL.

        • It’s all about opportunity cost. Instead of that card, you could’ve bought a house in 2020 with a 2-5k deposit and some tricky strategy and come out this year with 200k profit.. ;)

          • @Doomedgrind: It's like telling you could buy a lottery ticket and be rich by now.

          • @Doomedgrind: I guess if you know the market really well you could've flipped it for a profit but 200k profit you'd have to be pretty damn lucky still.

    • +7

Surely you knew at some point it was going to come down. Paying that much for a card is absurd and lets GPU manufacturers know people are willing to pay that sort of money.

      • +4

They call that the stupid tax

      • +13

I did and I got a year's worth of use out of it, so I'm very happy.

        • +3

Me too @Slutty Bianca, me too.

        • +1

You are very happy that you got 1 year of use for $1000 depreciation?

          • -2

@Harold Halfprice: Not the sharpest tools in the shed lmao

          • +1

@Harold Halfprice: Yep, it's probably the most used item (alongside my other PC parts) of my past 12 months. It's what I use for work, and then again for personal use.

            • @okbianca: I’ll bet you could’ve got by with a gtx 960 or so though… ;) if you were just working and doing some entertainment lol..

          • @Harold Halfprice: They would've easily mined over $1000 on it that yr so the price difference is negligible anyway.

          • @Harold Halfprice: Not the highest price for a year of happiness.

            • @DmytroP: Sure, I'd gladly pay $1000 for 1 year of happiness. I'd pay a lot more than that actually.

But framing it like that is misleading as it's not really the case - it's $1000 depreciation in 1 year for marginally better graphics performance. It's not like the alternative is no gaming and no happiness and I doubt OPs woes and worries magically disappeared.

But hey, end of the day - not my money.

      • From the day they are released they will eventually come down… you may as well buy it and enjoy it day 1 than wait 2 years to save a few hunge.

    • Should have bought a crystal ball and pocketed the savings

      • How much is the crystal ball?
Probably made by Nvidia and has it's priced jacked anyway.

      • +10

Whether you can afford to waste money or not doesn't magically stop it being a waste.

OP used it for fun and work and seems happy, so it's not a waste for OP.

But for most people - even us PC gaming addicts - spending an extra $2500 for slightly better visuals in games is a huge waste, regardless of whether we are too foolish or too rich to be bothered by that waste.

      • Sadly, it was those chasing Hashrates that ultimately pushed the prices beyond affordability… so to make such a statement is quite insulting really.

  • +8

down down down going down :)

  • +7

They’ll probably still make a decent profit margin even if they sold these at $700…

    • You bet they would.

I’d be surprised if the BOM was more than $400-500

  • +3

Any chance to include the evga 3090 ftw3? Your current eBay price is almost 50% than you website.

    • Hi Sunnybear,

Let me check with the team, but with "ebay tax", the price on ebay is generally higher than on our website.

      Cheers,
      BPC Team

    HODL

    • +11

      I'm still hodling my $900 1080 Ti from 2017.

      • +1

Still using my GTX 750 Ti with 2GB memory :) - bought $900 in 2014

      • +1

        I'm still hodling my $300-400 something gtx760 2gb I bought in 2014.
Will definitely upgrade late November this year after exams at Uni. But it is going to be something in a range of 3060ti or radeon 6600xt… $500-$600 max … Just fo 1080p occasional gaming… Will see what the 4000 series will bring us first.

        • +1

Yep I am aiming on 3080 Ti at the moment for below $1,000.00 - would be a HUGE upgrade for my new i7 10th system later

          • @MauTauAja: 3080ti sub $1000 would be a dream, guessing you would have to go on the pre-owned ex-mining market for that.

3080 (non ti) sub $1000 more realistic.

      • still holding onto my $400 second-hand 1070 Ti from 2018

      • I regret not buying that over the 1080 I bought, would've been an extra $200 well spent I think.

      • 1080ti gang

  • -3

Don't HODL, buy the damn thing enjoy your games. Why are you even looking at 3080s if your budget is $600

    • +6

After the Ethereum merge next month, a lot of GPUs are going to be dumped onto the market. HODL is good advice.

      • I'm sure this is true but I keep hearing they are about to get dropped onto the market.
        Hope this time it's true.

      • What about all the advice that's bouncing around about avoiding used mining cards? Demand for new cards isnt' going to dry up overnight. Also those miners want to maximise their profits too or they're too lazy to sell cards individually so you're still gonna be looking at clapped out mining cards close to new prices or $20k bundles of cards. The earliest you'll only see $800 12gb 3080 and $1k 3080ti's is January 2023.

        • +3

Components don't fail based on how hard they're pushed (if they're adequately cooled). It's just fancy sand. usually soldering points, fans, or contact points for components are the first thing to fail. So long as the card works now and there's no physical damage, there's no reason it's worse than another component that has been used for the same amount of time.

As for cards that are poorly cooled, some sensitive components that are damaged by heat will have their lifespans shortened (as they are more likely to fail from the forces of cooling and heating; expanding contact points and solder for example).

          • @ThirtySixNights: A gamer's card likely average of 6hrs a day over say 300 days the year meaning it has only be used for 1800hr where as a mining card that been running ends up 24hrs x 365 = 8760hrs.

So you're basically buying a card that's already lived 5yrs and that's the better case, cause likely a lot of these cards are now 2 years old so really you're buying a card with 10 years use under its belt.

            • +2

@Zorololo: That’s not how wear works on these cards. As stated above, most of the things that fail will wear with rapid heating and cooling, and mining doesn’t fall into that category

            • +2

@Zorololo: thermal expansion and contraction would be more wear and tear than running at 100% usage, all else being equal

But yes, avoid the mining cards, avoid the current cards for sale, and probably best to avoid the new ones coming out

          • @ThirtySixNights: Electromigration is still in effect even with good cooling.

      • +3

Nothing wrong with saving money, but ethereum is probably never going to pos. It'll just fork a new chain and heaps of people will stick with the old fork. happened tonnes already.

      • NOt really, the huge price drop is only for used GPU from abused mining usage without warranty nor invoice nothing.

The brand new one still HODL-ing its reasonable price with fully warranty and support.

    • you can still have a graphics card that can play games but be curious in a 3080

i mean obviously if you want or need one now there's nothing stopping you from buying one these days

  • Any other 3060ti's or 3070's?

  • Snowball starts rolling bigger and bigger baybay

  • +2

By the time you make your final Afterpay installment the price on the market will be lower.

    • By the time the final afterpay installment is due, RTX 4000 series will likely have been announced.

  • +1

    Hodlllll

  • +1

    HODL!!!!

  • Can you run this 3080ti with a 750W PS?

    • +2

      https://www.hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphics/148130-asus-gefo….

Yes. Total system draw using 5950X is 530W. As long as it's a good quality 750W PSU.

      • Thanks. I've got Corsair RM Series RM750 750W 80 PLUS Gold

        • +2

That PSU should still be around 90% efficient at that load: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/corsair-rm750-power-sup…

Plus it's a Corsair. Typically very high quality.

          • +1

@locknuts: Cheers. looking forward to getting one. My trigger point is 1K. Hopefully in a few months

            • +1

@Dr-Bargain: Yeah still too high for me. The 3080 12GB FTW is tempting me though.

              • @locknuts: HODL. Better to wait until they release the 40 series and all this news about ETH merge.
                So, no regrets

                • @Dr-Bargain: Thanks friend. You talked me down from the ledge. HODL it is.

              • @locknuts: got to say I'm tempted by the EVGA 3080 FTW3 at ~$1150 but then again I'm already sitting on a 2080S which I barely use. since the xboox series X was only $750 and the performance it has in the handful of games I actually play then it's just bleeding for no reason.

Only challenge I have is the size of backplates on these things. II built a Mini-ITX rig with only one slot and it's so snug against the SSD and other heat sinks that I highly doubt I could fit these cards if they protrude at the back.

I.e I had a GTX1080 OC Galax Sn1per white but it has a 4mm metal backplate which means it won't go in the rig. I don't even do crypto, so just considering for high refresh gaming at 1080Px3 (5860x1080 (100 extra for bezel correction) at 144hz.. the 2080S struggles here, getting ~35 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 - would like to break at least 60

    • Should be no problem. I have the same psu running the EVGA FTW 3080 ti which has higher power limit. There’s been no issue even at spike (500w plus power draw just for the card).

      • Thanks mate. Now I have more confidence to go with a 3080 ti card without investing into a new PS

  • -7

still inflated prices, nowhere near what they should be worth.

  • the 12gb 3080 is $210 cheaper and performs the same as the Ti?

    • Does it?

    • +2

not really, it performs between the 10gb 3080 and ti but more toward the 10gb 3080.

    • It's a little faster but probably not noticeable enough to warrant the price difference… But that's just typical when it comes to high end cards… If DLSS and RT weren't a factor 6900xt at 999 is a better 'deal'

  • +14

HODL on my fellow ozbargainers make them bleed green don't buy there overpriced junk hit them where it hurts

Top end card should be max $1500 aud if people refuse to pay anything over that or just keep holding off until they price there cards properly they'll be forced to keep reducing prices or just not sell cards

Go buy a 2nd hand 1080ti or a cheap 20 / 30 series on gumtree it will do everything you need it to do and you won't be forced to accept nvidia robbing you blindly either that or go buy a amd team red card and support there competitor

"Nvidia cuts its revenue forecast by 17%. According to preliminary quarterly figures, the company's revenue from gaming items such as GeForce GPUs was lower than expected. Nvidia claims that video card sales are down owing to 'challenges.'

Challenges = People refusing to pay 3 x the real price of there cards

    https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/nvidia-reduces-revenue-pre…

      • +4

        OK, non-LHR.

      • +5

I bought a 2070 super new for $700 and I thought that price was really high, but I considered it worth it on a $ per FPS basis relative to my graphics card at the time. I could afford $2500 for a 3080 or whatever a year ago, but I'd much rather spend the money on something else and reconsider GPUs when prices return to normal (which seems to be happening now). I heard the 4070 might be just as fast as a 3090 and may cost $500USD. Where's the flaw in my logic? And what's your plan if prices come down? Wait for the next supply squeeze so you can blow $2500 on a new graphics card and abuse anyone who doesn't?

        • Each is different, based on their personal circumstances.

If you need GPU for whatever reason during crypto boom they you might need to fork out more.

Waiting 2 years can be unacceptable for some if its due to their work or leisure.

At the end life is not all about the money or saving $1000 over a year.

If your circumstances allow you to wait to get 4070 for $500 then by all means its your choice, but not everyone in the same boat as you are.

    • Nvidia don't care if you buy a 30 series at this point. 4090 is going to be $2500 and the 4080 is going to be $1800, nothing will change their minds.

      • +1

I doubt the 4080 will be over $1,500. Amd is a major threat this time around and their cards are cheaper to produce and can price more aggressively against nvidia, the 4080 is also a more gimped card .it's not like the 3080 and 3090 which weren't too far off in performance, the 4090 will be a bit step up. $2,500 for the 4090 probably isn't far off though. It would be stupid if they increased the prices too much over current gen msrp given how crappy the market is at the moment and the stiff competition.

  • +2

    3090 ti Deal plz :)

Any chance of a 6600xt deal?
