  • Anyone know where to get the film cheap? $1 a shot is a bit much.

  • -6

    people still use film?

  • again? seem non-exclusive right now

op: update title to include postage fee..

  • I dread to think what it costs to get film developed these days

    • $6 for 24.

I'm guessing the novelty will wear off soon, and the camera would be left to gather dust since the continuing cost of using it is quite high.

    • I'm having flashbacks to the 60's, 70's & 80's when Instamatics were common, I wasn't a fan then & can't say I'd be keen now! Talk about all the bad fads coming back to haunt us!!!

It wouldn't be too many months use before the high running cost for one of these would have put you into a really nice P&S, mirrorless or entry level DSLR! :o

      • .."I'm having flashbacks to the 60's, 70's & 80's when Instamatics were common"

        What are you talking about..?

        • This: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant_camera You didn't think this whole instant camera fad was a new idea did you??? They were crap photo quality then, I can't see them being much better now!!!

I was there for most of it! :p

      • lol did you have a bad experience with an instant camera? For some people, the quality of image a camera is capable of producing is not as important as the experience of using that camera.

        • lol did you have a bad experience with an instant camera?

Plenty of them, yes; poorly exposed or under-developed photos, dodgy film batches, running out of expensive film with nowhere to get them quickly…the list goes on!

For some people, the quality of image a camera is capable of producing is not as important as the experience of using that camera.

          What experience? It's a camera…a tool for a job…you take photos with it…the camera =/= the memories!

I have boxes & albums full of (slowly degrading) instamatic photos, only because that was the most convenient thing available to us at the time. Film processing up until a few years ago was an expensive, time consuming proposition as well. Thankfully technology has moved on, the best thing that ever happened for amateur photography was digital cameras IMHO!

Instants were always fiddly, expensive & poor quality images…please tell me there's been a quantum leap in technology that has made them somehow worthwhile, otherwise sorry it's just another revived fad to me! ;)

          Just my 2cents…

I own a DSLR and to me both cameras do different things. One take good professional images, the other take quick FUN images to create a wall art or give to your friends!

I love lomography and instant cameras BECAUSE of the "inconsistency". I guess to me it's art. The under developed or over exposed images give that extra bit of character to the images. LOL.

Fuji Instax is not a quantum leap in technology, but it is a bit more consistent than the older Polaroids! :)

        • Fair enough, I wish I could think that creatively…but I can't. ;)

I'm just not seeing anything that couldn't be done with digital or 35mm film…cheaper!!! :p

What I mean by experience is the process of taking photos. The camera is indeed a tool, but I think different tools impart different experiences when you use them. Maybe I'm just being sentimental, but I enjoy shooting with a film camera more than with a digital camera. I also enjoy writing more when I use a fountain pen as opposed to a gel roller or ballpoint pen. Same with mechanical watches versus quartz movements.

Most people will treat the camera simply as a tool for capturing memories, and it's not like there's anything wrong with that. I'm not sure if the following analogy is similar, but I've met people who enjoy cooking more than eating.

Oh, and like littlemissbargain, I find the character of the images produced by these instant cameras to be quite beautiful. Yes, I have no doubt an image can be photoshopped to look similar, but for it to come out of the machine like that, in a tangible medium, just feels different.

That said, I haven't used mine in a while because of the cost of film! That's why I love ozbargain - save on everything else so I can spend on what I like! haha

  • What was the price last week again?

  • Really good deal, film is usually $1/film and I've seen places selling the camera for $100 ea.

  • +2

anyone know what time it starts?

    • Yes, would be great to know! OP, any info on this?

      • No idea but you can ask on their FB where the deal was posted.

    • the deal is on now, think it started as soon as it struck midnight

      • Just bought 1! :) Awesome price, even eBay can't beat it.

  • bought it last week
came with a 10pack of film with the camera + the 20pack of film

Considering the price of film, they can afford to sell these at cost, or even below just like printers, consoles etc and make it up just from selling the film.
