Optus Prepaid $180 SIM Starter Kit (120GB, 365-Day Expiry) for $150 Delivered @ Optus

81

This deal (which looks pretty common) is back. The Boost 140GB SIM deals for ~$150 are probably better value (depending on network preferences), especially with international calls/texts included, but Boost doesn't currently have roaming at all. Optus seems to have one of the better prepaid roaming offers which may be useful to some.

Includes 20GB bonus data for new customers. Purchase by 19/09/22 and activate by 26/09/22 on the Optus Flex plan.

Optus also does eSIM - which Boost doesn't yet.

    • Yep, doesn't look like you can sign up through eSIM on this plan though. Looks like you have to sign up with the physical SIM and then switch to eSIM.

      • How do eSims work? Do you need a physical sim to set it up on a phone or can any modern phone utilise a eSim? (on boost currrently)

        • +1

Most modern phones do eSIM - eg, iPhone has included it since the iPhone XS in 2018.

Some carriers you can sign up and download the eSIM in an app - Felix for example - and install it on your phone.
Some carriers use QR codes for you to scan in and download/install the eSIM.

In this case, you can't sign straight up to an eSIM for this deal, but you can sign up with the plastic SIM, get set up, and then swap to an eSIM - https://www.optus.com.au/for-you/support/answer?id=20000

If you're an existing Prepaid mobile or Mobile Broadband customer with an eSIM capable device, you can switch from a physical SIM to an eSIM via:
          Over the phone
          In-store

  • isn't the roaming $10 per day for 1gb, would call that good, vodafone is the best roaming option at $5 per day

    • $5/day with Vodafone for prepaid roaming (https://www.vodafone.com.au/prepaid/plans/international-roam…) only gets you 200mb.
$15/3 days only gets you 750mb (250mb/day if you rationed)
$35/7 days only gets you 2GB (285mb/day if rationed)

Optus prepaid will do $20/14 days/10GB - https://www.optus.com.au/mobile/plans/international-roaming/… - or ~700mb/day if rationed if all you need is data.

      • yeah postpaid with voda, above should say "wouldn't" not "would"

        • As per the deal

Optus seems to have one of the better prepaid roaming offers which may be useful to some.

          Prepaid, not postpaid :)

          • @b3au: see what you mean never seen those options, thats actually pretty good & ridiculous postpaid dont get that deal lol

            • @RogueWolf: Catch is that $20 Optus roaming pack only works in 10 or so listed countries

              • @BigBoy47: had to be some type of catch, good for those travelling to those countries though, still on a old optus $40 80gb, 4gb roaming plan, refuse to cancel it just to have that roaming option, comes in very handy

  • I don't get why anybody pays for roaming when you can usually get unlimited roaming on a prepaid overseas for $1 a day or something. Not something I'd ever factor in when buying an Australian SIM. Who actually makes traditional calls and texts now anyway?

    • May be when you in transit for few hours, it is to trouble some to get local sim, right? Sometimes foreigner have to provide passport, visa, Id, etc to get it.

Usually local SIMs are cheaper, but for the US I don't think you can get cheaper than Optus' prepaid roaming offer if it suits you (which it will for me). For some reason SIMs in the US look wayyyy more expensive than elsewhere…

Also the big deal is that a Boost service won't work at all overseas, whereas a network with roaming will at least let you receive texts for free. Real annoying for SMS 2-factor codes

Most business people need to take calls while they are overseas. So they will have to use roaming.

Coles mobile is better value for the international calls. They have volte and roaming, theyre just missing esim

I ordered around a week ago; until now, there is no tracking, and I have been told there is a massive delay/backlog for orders.
So if you are in a hurry, do not buy this as they cannot have an ETA.
I need this urgently, so I most likely need to cancel this. Be aware!

  • Went in store just now, they said it's online only. So have to wait for the sim to be delivered
Store only offering $180 for 60GB….for the 365 days plan

  • Information summary says: "Optus Flex plans are available to new customers joining Optus for the first time and existing Optus customers who change rate plans or set up an additional service."

Are they strict in the application of "joining Optus for the first time"?
