  • Can this be used to recharge an existing Vodafone 365 prepaid plan?

    • Not entirely sure, but if you ported out and then back in then it'd be fine as I did that with Kogan mobile in the past to take advantage of their discounted plan for 'new' users. Usually there are offers for free sims (after cashback) from boost

      • I thought all starter packs could be used as recharge vouchers with Vodafone? Can't see anywhere this says new customers only

        • Can anybody confirm that you can use a starter pack to recharge please?

          • @Bargain2020: Pretty sure they'll just transfer your number from one some to another. Otherwise they'll know you'll just port out and back in for a few bucks on another carrier.

    • -2

Whilst its a good "Vodafone" deal its actually VERY POOR VALUE
Kogan mobile uses the same Vodafone network
However Kogan's Small 365 day plan includes 130GB and EVERY DAY price is only $120
And dont forget Vodafone will charge you the full $250 upon recharge!
      Yikes!

You can also get the Coles 120GB long expiry plan most weeks for $120 which includes Unlimited standard international calls and text to
      15 selected destinations

Hence thumbs down from me, sorry

      • Does Kogan have 5G, VOLTE and VOWIFI?

        • Kogan has VOLTE, not sure for 5g or VOWIFI, my recharge was for 20gb a month and it was $115 for 365 days

        • 'service provided is a Kogan Mobile SMALL – 365 DAYS Plan (previously 1XL – 365 Days Plan) giving access to Vodafone 3G & 4G coverage (but does not include VoLTE).' … from Kogan….

          • @srhardy: That might not be updated, it says VOLTE on the top of my phone and when I make calls…

      • I cannot find this plan you speak of. When on the Kogan site, the Small 365 day plan is $99 for 80GB

        • Pretty sure the plans were restructured.
It's $150 for 120gb now. Which is why I just switched back to vanilla Vodafone today.

      • Kogan sucks balls. All the people that say mvno ‘carriers’ use the same network as Telstra or Vodafone are wrong, I don’t care what anyone says. It’s not the same. Can it be good value for the average consumer, yes. Is it the same service quality, not a chance. This is one of those ‘You get what you pay for’ scenarios. Do Telstra and Vodafone overcharge, yes. But there is a reason why they get the lions share and any big company who is serious will stay away from anything but. Let the negs begin. Anyone who has done their research knows these are just the facts. Kogan still sucks balls. I ported to them for 30 days to get back on a Telstra JB deal and I had constant dropped calls or calls and messages that would just fail. Also, it takes a lot more than just piggybacking off a mainstream provider. How it is all setup matters massively. Some do it really well like Boost but they are still not the same thing.

      • This deal can be had a lot cheaper if you have Woolies insurance (10% off) and a way to get 4% discounted gift cards

  • +2

If you have Woolworth's insurance you can get 10% off too.

    • Would it work on prepaid mobile vouchers?

      • +1

Yeah, I got 3 of them last time they offered this and got the 10% off.

        • Damn good to know, thanks for the tip!

      • +3

IIRC, no 10% off recharge vouchers, but starter SIM pack is not a voucher.

        • Yep, exactly, the starter SIM packs definitely get the 10% off, it's the way I always buy mine.

    • Is this with the 10% off monthly shop?

    • Why not?

  • Would this be 5g compatible? Thinking of ditching current Telstra $65 plan and switching to this but have found 5g to be really good for my use case.

    • +1

Bit more info on Vodafone's website about the product and it says it is 5G compatible https://www.vodafone.com.au/prepaid/plans/250plus

      • Interesting, no 5g coverage where I am located (Syd metropolitan area lol). Was with Voda years ago, thought they'd up their game by now… Closest 5g coverage is only a street away. Shame.

    • +1

can confirm it is 5g subject to coverage area.

      • I am in Adelaide and almost no coverage for 5g in the cbd.

    • +2

Does anyone really need 5g anyway. I mean 4g download speeds is enough. If you're downloading at 5g speed over 1gbps you're going to run out of phone space pretty quickly.

      • It’s the latency I think that makes the difference here

      • I actually switched 5G off on my phone as it chews through the battery faster and I've not noticed any difference in speed for what I use my phone for, being WhatsApp, web browsing, Youtube, video calls.

  • +8

No Intl calls unfortunately. Will stick to Boost deals.

  • I thought Woolies mobile was Telstra, have they changed?

    • +3

It is a prepaid sim for Vodafone, woolies is just selling the sim

      • Yeah, my bad…thanks

  • this or woolies mobile which you can get on 10% off each month

    • Mrs and I both on the woolies plan and we mainly get groceries from woolies so the mobile is nearly free. Woolies doesn’t have the best reception coverage but it’s okay considering the price.

      • How bad is the reception? I just bought the woolies plan hoping that it would be decent as it uses part of the telstra network which has been great - I was on boost before

        • +2

If you are metropolitan or big town regional it is pretty much equivalent to Telstra. Some issues sometimes with 3G being refarmed can lead to missed calls despite good reception, but this should be settled September to December as VoLTE becomes available.

          • @constipated: How do you know this? Does it affect data usage? I’ve just recently switched over to Woolies mobile and it is showing me full bars but I am not able to load a web page.

  • In current times, boost is best for value it offers. Telstra coverage, international minutes etc. 5G and rest. No one can match that.

    • +4

Minus international roaming. Was a pain during my travel back when

      • Yep looking for a new sim/plan to switch to for international travel coming up. Previously^ was with vodafone where $5/day gave me free use of all my normal data and calls.

This one might do nicely to retain my number while overseas rather than buying a bunch of local sims.

        ^Am currently with catch.

        • Was about to ask if this can be used overseas, think u have answered my question.

        • I'm pretty sure Local SIMS are always better value, than paying for roaming.

Just need to make sure your bank and important MFA allow push notifications to get them over the Internet, instead of SMS.

Also, to retain your number in Australia in the cheapest possible way, you either have the $1 Optus Plan (valid for 6 months) or the $5 Aldi prepaid SIM valid for 365 days.

          • @Cousin IT: Local sims definitely are better value but I have found Vodafone's $5 Roaming to be convenient in the past just to use my AU number and data.

Not with vodafone any more and with not being able to use $5 Roaming for this prepaid deal, I'll just go back to local sims.

      • Yeah, while vowifi is great, you literally need it to be over wifi. Having dual sim with data on the other sim wouldn't suffice, so you need to carry around two devices.

        • This isn't true - all iPhones and some Samsung phones can use the other SIM for 'wifi calling' when there's no reception.

Used it in Singapore last month as I didn't want to pay for roaming, but still wanted SMS and calls.

          • @b3au: Doesn't work with my Samsung a52s then

    • +1

No esim on boost is a deal breaker for me

  • Does Apple watch plan work with this (with an extra fee)?

  • Can this deal be combined with Vodafone's per day overseas $5 Roaming or do I have to be on an actual plan plan for that?

  • How to make international calls with this one?

  • Only reason why someone would pick this deal over Boost mobile pack for around same price would be limited availability of 5G. In all other aspects (better network, international calls & SMS) Booster is heaps better.

    • +2

      No eSIM on Boost (yet)

    • +2

No roaming and no esim, and that's two reasons already

    • I barely get one or two bar at my home. Sometimes my data switch to H+. Definitely a very poor coverage at my place. On the other hand boost gave me average download speed of 150-200mbps. Going back to boost once my plan expires.

    • +1

      Depending on the user.
I have great Vodafone coverage everywhere I travel, I have 5G switched off as it chews through the battery faster and for how I use my phone, I don't notice any difference.
I am also travelling to Europe next month so I'll make use of the roaming and/or eSIM.
For me, the cost savings (total cost $112.50 for 12 months after 10% off) and all the above make this a much better option.
We all have different use cases.

  • Already bought this at colebee Woolworths yesterday

Trying to use this network to see if can fix my Google 5g boost dropout issue

  • +6

Shopback offer 22.72% cashback if you buy directly from Vodafone here. It's currently discounted to $150. After roughly $34 cashback, would cost ~ $116.

    • Others' mileage may vary but vodafone took almost 9 months and multiple follow ups with shopback before paying out for a sim purchase I made last year. Only vendor I've ever had trouble with.

      • Also some people would rather save 25 bucks that have 34 in a cash back site. Good spot nonetheless

    • +1

I bought one of them for my son last year. After a few weeks it hadn't arrived so I contacted Vodafone and they refunded it. A week later it arrived. Not only that but the shopback still tracked so not only free but profited on it with a working sim.

  • Does anyone know of a prepaid sim that also has international roaming. I just need it for 2FA sms messages when travelling.

    • +1

Quite a lot have roaming, infact I think it's everyone that I checked with the exception of Boost. Lebara, Aldi, Amay, Voda. Just check your specific destination.

      • I’m currently with boost which works well for me except for the international roaming part. The other I had in mind was Voda. But that is ruled out too. Looks like Optus’ network might be my only chance.

        Thanks mate.

    • +1

This one does - just need to pay 5 bucks for those occassional 2FA SMS things.

      • Is that 5 bucks a day?

        • +1

Receiving SMS should be free, as long as the card can roam.

    • +1

Kogan sim did job for me while I was overseas.

      • I might check Kogan out. If I’m not wrong, they use the Telstra network?

        Thanks mate.

        • +1

          Kogan is Vodafone.

Beware they don't have monthly plans so you're in there for the long haul.

          • +2

            @b3au:

Beware they don't have monthly plans so you're in there for the long haul.

They do. But theyre not good deals compared to the year plan.

            • +1

@Quarter Pounder: The 'Monthly' plans are still contracts though, you're just not paying upfront - you can't just use Kogan for a month or two while overseas like @TubeLight might want - you're locked in with Kogan for 12 months.

              From the CIS

You will need to pay an Early Exit Fee if you cancel your plan before end of the 12 Month Commitment Period.

              https://www.koganmobile.com.au/plans/mobile/

              • @b3au: Maybe I should rephrase my question. I don’t want Int’l roaming perse. I just want the sim to connect to the local netwrok to receive incoming texts. No outgoing text, calls or internet needed.

With that in mind, is there a prepaid that works on a payg basis?

              • @b3au:

The 'Monthly' plans are still contracts though, you're just not paying upfront - you can't just use Kogan for a month or two while overseas like @TubeLight might want - you're locked in with Kogan for 12 months.

From memory you can get a $20PM for 10gb thru the $2.90 starter pack on the second month. That is not locked in rather just a bad deal.

                • @Quarter Pounder: Ah yes I see what you mean - no longer advertised (only 12 month plans), but it is the default after the $2.90 starter SIM expires.

You're right - not locked in but not great value at $20/10GB

I think Kogan have lost the plot moving to the 'contract' setup

              • @b3au: Not all of them, you can either get their $2.90 30 day Starter Pack or if you've got access to Unidays you can also get the $1 30GB 30 day Plan.

Woolworths Mobile prepaid supports receiving SMS overseas for no additional cost. I have successfully used it for 2FA codes while travelling in their list of eligible countries.

      It’s specified here:

  • Can you use wish gift cards on sim purchases?

    • I am also waiting for answer on this.

  • +1

i took up one of these vodafone discounts on a previous deal (i hop every 12 months, was previously on boost)

safe to say i very much regret this decision, vodafone is still shit compared to other networks. drop outs in my home (inner west) and slow connection in the office (cbd)

considering cutting my losses and moving back to boost or optus

  • Seeking clarification on this SIM.

Can I purchase this SIM and use year long etc. However I planning trip to Germany in OCT for whole month. Can I use the $5 day roaming and it not impact my AU usage remaining i.e GB's and calls etc.

Also is the $5 per day done on upfront basis or if it detects usage that day as will likely only turn on every other day for the month i am there.

  • Can I buy the $2 starter sim and charge it with this deal? Or do I have to go to a store that has the exact same design as the one as this in stock? I went into a Metro store and they only had the "$2 Starter Pack" ones.

    • Doubt it as this is specifically for the "Vodafone Prepaid Starter Pack $250" and not on sale until tomorrow (17th Aug).

  • I bought a 500gb 365 days prepaid for $150 from Kogan last month so no deal.

  • Does Vodafone offers wifi calling for receiving calls and sms while you are in overseas?
