Had a look on Amazon and saw this. Its similar to a deal for this posted a while ago, but considering our dollar has dropped considerable since then and it would cost the same to get it as it did back then when AU dollar was worth more than US dollar, I thought it was a good deal and worthwhile posting it.

Sadly for me, i already bought one last week from Amazon and its on board with drive now so should get it today. Quite impressed with expedited shipping, took only 8 days from the moment i ordered.
Only black available by the way.

If only I could justify the need for 2tb portable

    • portable porn in a discreet passport sized hard drive?

(id need a few of these in that case ;))

  • yeah thats pretty good, i just bought one from office works the other day 288 - (works paying for it thoguh)… the speeds are amazing… getting about 110MB sustained transfer speeds. pretty nice for a USB powered device,

(tried the usual static ice/shop bot price match however they where already the cheapest - JB hi fi harvey norman had them)

when will these be avail in Australia ?

wisc just said he got from officeworks for $288…

  • Only black available by the way.

Once you go black you'll never go back !

    • who the hell is negging him?

it's only available in 'black'- hence the 'never go back'…. killjoys ;).

        Those damn neggers !!!

  • Gets some pretty nasty reviews on amazon. Looks like it's not just the crap software, but that the hardware also has some issues. I'm pretty keen on a 2TB portable, but will wait to see if they get more stable.

Can you remove the drive from the enclosure, and use it as an internal drive? Or is the USB adapter soldered onto the drive, making that impossible?

    • drive seems a little higher than the other passport drives, (and not about to open mine up to check) - might have an extra platter making it higher (so custom made for external only)
also had no issues with mine, will have to read the amazon reviews and see…though the figures look pretty good!

    • The usb connector is soldered directly onto the drive circuit board. Here is my feedback from the previous posting…

    • You wouldn't want to. It's a laptop sized drive, which is slower than the 3.5" drives. This is most likely 5400 RPM.

Unless you're using it for a laptop, it would be cheaper to get a 3.5" one like the 2TB Seagate externals from OW for $98.

Just got mine. Looks just about the same height, but slightly thicker compared to the 1TB passport. Took only 8 days to arrive from the moment i made the order, so very reasonable shipping time frame IMO.

    • Are you going to open it up and see what's inside?

    • Are you going to open it up and see what's inside?

      • Wasn't going to until i get home tonight, but if there is something specific you would like to know, I'm happy to do it. :)

        • now there's the true OZb spirit-someone who is willing to give up their warranty to answer a question from another poster!

think he is talking about opening the packet not the drive :)

        • Ahhh yep. I can pretty much "lock it in eddy" that CuteBirdy aint ripping the case open just to be a considerate Ozb :).

        • If I had the drive, I would open it up to unleash the full potential of the drive (without USB adapter bottleneck), but yes not "just" to be a considerate Ozb :)

        • +1

          without USB adapter bottleneck

          it's USB 3

      • .. I was talking about opening the enclosure, following on from my previous post above. And ally said it's slightly thicker than the 1tb, implying she has already opened the package up…

  • This might be relevant. Review and case open…
