      Ya I fixed thanks bro

If data sharing was allowed on this plan would be good, but they disallow it in T&Cs

    • but they disallow it

      why?

      • Different billing system - JB HiFi plans are in an old billing system with no data sharing

        • the old billing system is being retired, so then what?

          • @Irishness: Whenever the JB HiFi plans get created in the new system people will probably start being migrated over.

The fact they're still offering 24 month JB HiFi contracts suggests it'll still be a while yet before JB customers are moved over

            • @b3au: fair enough but they are moving all their pre paid customers over and doing a terrible job of it

            • +1

@b3au: No, it doesn't. Contract terms have literally nothing to do with data migration.

        • +6

          Lol

    • Not 'disallowed' - the billing system doesn't support it. But agree - no data sharing is another catch, not just being locked in for 24 months.

      • +1

The billing system supports it just fine. They used to have data sharing on Siebel accounts years back. They just removed the product now

        • +1

Yeah, I recon it's just a perk saved for Telstra contract. And imo fair enough.

  • +15

only catch is you are locked in for 24 months

    big catch though.

    • +5

Yeah I'd never commit to $100/month for 24 months and no phone. I'll pass :)

      • +27

Homer…Vouchers can be exchanged for phones

        • +12

          Explain how!

      • +10

        $100/month for 24 months

$2,400 for usage when many of those users can probably get away with $240….

        • Yeah, I've been spending around $120/year for the last 3 to 4 years now, so I just couldn't imagine spending this on mobile access now.
I know I used to spend this sort of money 10 years ago.

    • Yep, especially when you don't even need that much data.

  • Tempting. I'm on Circles.Life $8 for 48gb, but it ends next month.

    • +8

This will set you up about $57 per month.. are you comparing the right one?

  • +21

Works out to be $57 a month, before tax deductions…

The real kicker here is for those who can tax deduct the entire amount as a work expense. Let's say at 47c in the dollar if you are earning 180k/year, you end up around $10.80 a month out of pocket.

    cost 2376
    less gift card -1000
    less tax deduction -1116.72
    total 259.28
    per month 10.80333333

At 39c in the dollar (earning 120-180k), you end up $18.72 per month out of pocket

    cost 2376
    less gift card -1000
    less tax deduction -926.64
    total 449.36
    per month 18.72333333

(assumes you want the jb hifi gift cards and value them at face value)

    • +6

If you use that $1000 gift card for a phone and salary sacrifice over it, your pre-tax deduction became $3,376, tax deduction $1,586.72. Net cost = $2,376 - $1,586.75 = $789.28 over 24 months and you have a $1000 phone in you hand. (you can also sell the phone for $789.28) for a free Telstra service for 2 years:)

      • How do you salary sacrifice for an outright bought phone?

        • Not sure if this is what they meant, but if you work for a public hospital or some not for profits you can salary package devices. You buy the device and the amount you paid is taken out before tax. Can also get living expenses before tax as well (up to 9k for hospitals, 16k? for some other places I think).

Different to salary sacrificing (usually referring to contributing to super).

        • The employee claims the phone as an expense and the employer reimburses them the full purchase price.
Then the employer takes the ex. GST purchase price out of the employee's pre-tax income over a few months.
The employee ends up getting the device at 40% or more off.

            Any recommendations?

      • What is the free telstra service?

        • the mobile plan itself

    • Are you saying that in a 47% bracket, your return will include $1116.72?

I assume there is more immediate benefit in claiming a new phone through this plane (and subsequent gift card) then paying the phone itself outright and claiming the phone for tax purposes which would need to be depreciated over 3 years?

  • +17

Was $1200 giftcard less than a month ago.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/713322

    • And it was also $1100 few wks ago too. Surprisingly no one posted the deal

Also, if you prefer an alternative plan, JB is currently doing $0 for iPhone 13 on the $99 plan over 24 months

    • +1

Yep, I wouldn't get into a 24 month contract for anything less than $1200.

  • +6

Only a month or so ago, you got the same $1000 gift card with $20 monthly discount, and 100GB extra monthly data. This is weak as.

    • Can confirm I got a $1200 card, am paying $79, claiming 80% work use, winning! (And free visual voicemail).

  • +4

Nothing beats the previous deal with with $500 gift card on $69/Month 12-Month 80GB plan where you could bring it down to $59/Month with $10 welcome credit. Too bad it's not gonna happen anytime soon.

    • +3

The deals 2 years ago were the best, ie sign up for the plan, receive gift card / phone, cancel the next day pay $2.33

  • waiting for $20 monthly discount

  • -2

OMG! 1K?!?! That's insane. How many remote control poo will that get me?

  • Usually all major carriers roll out new plans in September.. at least that was what I had noticed in the past

  • +1

It should be 2k back then it would be a tempting deal or 12months or a $50 monthly discount.

    This isn't a good deal

    • +2

You may as well ask for the plan to be free while you’re at it!!

      • Mine not free but basically the plan paying itself when i sign up for $69 for 12 months for 100gb 5g plan and pay $399 for pixel 6 pro. Refund pixel 6 pro ($650 gift card) and telstra chat credit for $20 which bring downs to $49. Result, profit $62.

      • unsure what you mean, I always get a deal on one of the above conditions, got one last year and another just a few weeks back, the one a few weeks back was basically a free plan so actually better deal then what I stated in my first comment

  • This only rewards telstra customers to leave and port back in.

    • it says if it is a new plan, so don't have to port out

  • -1

$99 per month and they don't include a phone? What a rip.

  • Doesn't worth it, better to choose that $69 one-year plan with $300 GC

    • anyone know if you're able to get the $10 port in bonus via telstra live chat?

  • +1

Still hodling for a 12 month $59 plan with a GC.

  • +1

Wasn't this $1200 last month? I guess they inflation adjusted the gift card too.. 😬

  • +3

Loved jumping on the Jbhifi/ Telstra wagon when contracts were 12 months and the gift cards $500. Now boost works out to be heaps cheaper within the added benefits of international calling. I would pass on this ..

  • Maybe I should port to Optus and wait a few months and port back to telstra just for the gift card lol

  • So porting in from Boost doesn't work for any of the JB/Telstra deals?

    • Boost is in their system, Siebel. It counts as a pre paid to post paid order, rather than a new connection.

      • Ah, I need to change to another prepaid service for a month to take advantage of one of these plans, would you recommend any provider who is half decent?

      • Siebel is being phased out. Prepaid customers are being migrated to a new system called Console. In any event, terms exclude Boost customers, so if you're going to do this, port out to Optus/Voda first.

        • I'll believe it when I see it, they've been saying they're phasing out Siebel and Maxim for 5 years now.

  • How long is the gift card valid for?

  • -1

https://felixmobile.com.au/ offers unlimited data, calls and texts for $35 per month. Last month I used 350GB and I've used 285GB so far this month. They have first month free with code "felix" at the moment. I can usually get 2 people online streaming at 360/480p if you're willing to turn down bitrate on youtube and netflix. It's unusable for gaming during afternoon peak. I'm just waiting for NBN to get their butts in gear and finally install my proper home service (I've been waiting for more than 6 weeks at this point with multiple calls to AussieBB to get NBN to get a wriggle on). They are definitely a B level service provider though because when I use my Kogan mobile data the service is much faster and useable for gaming but I only get 20GB per month with Kogan so I can't really use them for everyday as a stop-gap. Both Felix and Kogan utilise the Vodaphone network. Felix uses 3G and 4G, speed is comparable to 3G only. Latency at peak in afternoons is somewhere between 1s-2s and I'm pretty sure they just give me a 10-20 second time-out every 10-20 minutes just to ensure it isn't used as a gaming service during peak.

    • +4

I'm not sure why you're offering a completely incomparable carrier and product as a "comparison" of any kind, but you do you.

      • Ok, thanks man.

    • +1

Big brother Vodafone so $65 unlimited and you can ignore the tethering/hotspot limitations too as it’s only enforced when roaming overseas and not domestic

      Votlte and wificalling tick too

I do 600gb-900gb a month 80-150mbs speed 4g/5g and soon roaming on Telstra around Xmas too

  • -1

Why would someone pay $100 per month for a mobile plan!?
I just pay < $10 per month with Kogan, Catch Connect, Boost, etc. The coverage is good enough for even outer suburbs.

    :-? :-? :-?

    • +1

My work covers upto $80 pm so it comes out very cheap for me. I signed up start of the year with $1200 gc though

    • With NBN at home and free wifi hotspots it’s doable for sure. Or dual phone and do a data only @1.5mbs unlimited for $15 a month (but I’d rather pay $35 felix)

  • Jb hifi no longer offer 12 month plan anymore? It's removed from website and replace with 24 month plan

  • If only this deal for iPhone 14

  • pay $2376 to get $1000 200 gigs not shareable data is nothing to write to Queen Camilia about
200 gigs in 2022 is what used to be 45 gigs song and dance in 1999 on 4 gee

    • 4g was rolled out in 2009 so, to be fair, 45gb 4g in 1999 would have been flippin awesome!

  • Just saw at TGGs today same deal but $1200 gift card

  • Can I port of Telstra to voda for one day and return to Telstra via Jb promo?

    • Nup need to wait 30 days after porting out.

      • Not really. If you just tell the staff that you have ported some time ago from Boost,/belong to xyz, even if you switched recently, it will work.

        • +1

So when you guys do this, if the staff member doesn't really check when you ported out (which most of them have cottoned on to nowadays). Once the plan is through, Telstra don't reimburse JB for these plans and as a result the staff member gets into trouble.

Source: used to work at JB

  • Of=out

  • +1

If you hotspot can you still chromecast?

  • so if I go with 150$/yr prepaid for 2 years - I earn, how much?

    • You get 300gb per month for $150/ yr? How did you get that deal?

  • So Telstra are asking for you to pay them around $2400 and they will give you a $1000 gift card.

Honestly, everything Telstra touches is a scam.

  • True. Until the roaming agreement is green lighted and activated around Xmas then Vodafone’s going to be awesome if coverage is your reason for paying the Telstra tax

  • Hi, does anyone know how long those gift cards are valid for? Are there any limitations? thank
