I could turn around and go "Well for the cost of that laptop I could build a better desktop" and anyone who wants a laptop for the portability would be right to call it out as a bad comparison.
A regular phone+laptop is not the same as a cutting-edge folding device, if you don't get that then fine, it's not for you. But then just say it's not for you, rather than creating this false equivalence.

Just wanted to let you guys know that JBHIFI and Harvey Norman only have the 256 and 512 GB versions of the Fold 4 where as the Samsung store has the 1 TB version as well.. Dont know why it hasnt been released with the other stores ..

Why don’t Samsung just sell the phones for their real price and stop with the jumping through hoops for discounts. They do it every time now so it’s no longer real it’s just a hassle.

You'd be better off selling it privately on fb/gumtree.
For the purposes of trade-in promos they'll treat a brand new phone in box phone exactly the same as a 1 year old used phone with no damage.
I remember when the phones reached the 1k mark and just how shocked people were. Now we are hitting 2k as if it was Tuesday.
It doesn't matter how techy or funky it is, it's still a portable device which can drop off your pocket and you can lose it break it in an instant.
I still don't believe that these phones really deliver the value worth it over 500-600 devices, unless it actively makes your productivity increase worth the cost.
The limit seems to be what people accepts to be hyped about. And this is even on top of the need of switching devices every year.
It's not that I think that they shouldn't exist, the same way that Ferraris and Lambos may exist, but not for the regular Joe.

Are the trade in values better than Samsung/Asurion? (I'd check myself but if you try to access the trade in page after 11pm it says they're not open until 7am!)
You have to download the App on your trade in device. Once you run it, it'll tell you how much it's worth.
Website lets you do it too if you just want to compare different trade in values.
The trade in values aren't that bad (but obviously incomparable to private sales opportunities):
$450 for Z Fold 2 256gb
$500 for iPhone 12 128gb
$450 for 2018 iPad Pro 11" wifi/cellular 256gb
Telstra website gave me almost twice the trade-in value that Asurion did for my old S10! Not sure how JB valuations are but I might give them a go too.
Could also be worth checking the classifieds for people selling 50% off vouchers for the Fold. Would make it much cheaper to buy outright
