Monoculars are kind of a niche item but Vortex is a quality optics company and this seems like a really good price. Good for times where you don't want to carry your binoculars.

I assume it's for hikers to get their bearings, etc. IDK people who like to watch boats, bird watching… ?

I have a vision impaired friend who used one frequently through school when reading from a whiteboard for example. Variable distances, not far enough for binoculars, something where you don't need the depth perception of two eyes. I have pretty poor vision as well, I only ever use a single eye of a binocular because my focal lengths are too different from each other to ever make it work.

I was one of those people who used a monocular in school. Apart from the initial ridicule from others it was a very effective tool, especially if you don't need or have depth perception.

    • Hiking etc. So you dont need to approach an area to view it..

Something to keep in the bug out bag.. But probably want better optics

    • Yeah personally I prefer the comfort of a telescope.

    • I see lawn bowlers using a monocular in the comm games.

      • Probably range finders

  • Some crappy reviews

Bought one of these from B&H for 50USD in 2018, worth every penny, excellent quality.

Thanks for the deal, bought another one :)

Edit: Thought I would add this is a good everyday size for the visually impaired, on the larger size for such an application but not too cumbersome. Do note, however, the minimum focus distance isn't that short. In my experience it's about 10m or a bit less, YMMV.

  • Thanks, got one for Fathers Day gift.

Damn missed out :( That was a really good deal. I wonder if it was a pricing error.

    • I don't think it was - looks like just a short promo. I didn't buy new, but from the Amazon outlet - item as new condition - the price was also reduced to around $40
