God of War is an amazing game, and for $9 you can't go wrong with it. The second one is coming out in November too, which should be pretty exciting. When we played through it, it was so refined and polished - we didn't have any bugs/glitches, everything went well, and if you don't die, there aren't even loading screens, which blew my mind at the time. The story's great, the combat feels fun (though if it's your first GoW game like it was for me, it was a little challenging at first), and the visuals are amazing. We're doing to be playing through it again on NG+ soon for a refresher of the story before number 2 comes out!

I never beat it from a long time ago but agree with all your comments about it.

Even as someone who loved the previous God of War games, while this one was definitely different, it still had really fun and engaging combat.

Need to give it another crack when I have time!

    • +2

Not that I'm debating you since it was a fantastic game but there were loading screens, you probably just didn't recognise them since they were hidden between 'interactive cut scenes'

Everytime the game slows you down with a 'the path is blocked so press X to move this big rock so you can walk through' sort of event, its just an excuse to stop you running into an unloaded area.

Similarly, running across the branches of Yggdrasil is essentially making the load of a fast travel an interactive event for you.

      • +3

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in the original post - there were no loading screens in the traditional sense of "Now you're traveling here, so wait while you watch a bar loads and have some hints about the game" like what happens when you die for example. Everything was in built in cut scenes which felt super smooth and great to play through

    • It's so damn good

  • +4

God of War is a no brainer if you haven't played already.

the combat feels fun (though if it's your first GoW game like it was for me, it was a little challenging at first)

The combat was totally overhauled from the previous GoW games, so in a sense it was the "first God of war" for everyone

I played through the first 3 games before this reboot, and it took a while for the new combat system to click and make sense for me too. But once it does it's great 👌

    • +1

Ah, I still haven't played the other GoW games, so wasn't sure how much was similar/new for the new one

      • The originals were all basic hack n slash but damn fun… I loved playing them & still have a PS3 (Jail Broken) to play them on.
As well as GOW I, II & III there was also Ghost of Sparta, Chains of Olympus & Ascension.

all of these games go on sale at this price every 2 weeks, they might as well just keep it as the new retail price ..

  • Should I go back and play all the original GoW or can I just start here?

    • +1

You can definitely start here. I'd never had a PlayStation until I got my PS5 and this was one of the first games I played on it. I've still not played any of the previous entries and unlikely too. This one is basically a reboot for the series with the same protagonist but all other characters, setting and story are not related (I think?)

    • +2

This is very different to the originals. You can certainly start here but the originals were damn fun to play

I'm jealous for people who never played this games and are enjoying this games at this price. Talk about getting your money's worth.

I cannot agree more. God of War. Horizon Zero Dawn. The Nathan Drake Collection. The Last Of Us Remastered. Four (well, six really) legit 10/10 games for $9 each. If you don't already own them … you should!

    • -3

Um… not really. Two of them were free before (HZD, ND collection). A number of them are on PS Plus collection. Most would be on the higher tier of PS Plus (and were past PS Plus monthly "free" titles). For those who owned physical versions before, most of us would have traded them in. Can't complain paying $50 to $100 for a PS5 by trading in PS4 Pro and some PS4 games.

  • Some of these are included in PS plus as well?

I don't have a ps5 yet but plan on it, but not sure whether to buy games now. Seems they go at this price pretty regularly.

    • +1

Some are in PS Plus collection (the key ones are). Most, if not all are in the higher tier of PS Plus. Horizon Zero Dawn CE and Nathan Drake collection were free before (limited time giveaway).

I have majority of them through PS Plus (subscription & collection), free giveaway. The annoying part of Sony's system is digital version and physical disc version are separate downloads. So, even if I am tempted to own the physical version as well, it is a bit annoying to install 2 copies of the same game. Also, getting used to digital version of the games (no need to insert / swap discs).

Suggestion: if you don't have PS5 yet, there is no need to collect them. These discounts will continue to happen regularly.

      • +1

Thanks to both of you. Will hold out and work out later if to buy $9 discs or just get ps plus

    • +1

For what it's worth, God of War, Ratchet & Clank, The Last of Us Remastered, and Until Dawn are included in the PS Plus collection for PS5 users.

So you just need the standard plan to get those (plus a few other games), but yeah not 100% sure what's included in the more premium tiers.

  • Am I am unlikely to have problems (or miss out on something) playing these offline with no internet connection? (I still don't own a PS4)

    • GT Sport, Internet is pretty much required. Little Big Planet 3, probably good to have Internet (though still playable without Internet).

      • Thanks! GT Sport removed from cart.

  • Really keen to smash GOW on PC, just cannot justify pulling the trigger at $70 when it goes this low on PS4.

    • 120fps is nice and all but 4k checkerboard 60fps on the ps5 is definitely not too shabby at this price tag.

      • Oh don't get me wrong, I'd take this up if I owned the console, but unfortunately I don't

  • Since these are PS4 games, will they be able to do 4k gaming on PS5?

    • +1

God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and GT Sport support PS4 Pro and the first two titles have PS5 patch to support 4K/60Hz. However, do bear in mind that:

      • They are 4K checkered board with dynamic resolution, not true 100% 4K.
      • Both God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn are in PS Plus Collection (if you have PS5, you most definitely will at least use the free trial to collect them, and even if you used up your free trial for PS4/PS4 Pro, it is worth just buy 1 month of PS Plus to collect them and all the other titles in PS Plus collection).

Unless you really want physical disc version, there is really not much point to collect these for PS5.

      • For the PS Plus Collection, aren't those games only available while you're subscribed? So if you play games over a long period buying these ones make sense I think

  • Is Gran Turismo Sport worth it if you only ever play offline?

    • +1

      As per above comment

GT Sport, Internet is pretty much required.

      • Mate thanks for that, it's the only one I considered as the rest I've played or don't care for!

      • fair enough.

I only asked again as I did a little searching and it seems a bit of single player content got added in the last few years.
I couldn't figure out if the content was suitable for someone who plays 99% offline.
