Dont forget to season it by thoroughly wetting it with a hose and let it dry

    • +2

Serious? This is a thing? For what reason?

    • +1

Twice. Once isn't enough. Go over it once with a hose, and then the second time give it a proper sponge bath and ensure you get all the seems.

    • +6

With recent property prices, this would make an excellent retirement home.

Cosy, well ventilated, 1 bed, 1 living, exterior bath with excellent view.

      Would recommend 7/19

  • +5

Saw this in store other day all set up, its BIG, looks good. Might be able to get it for 139 with welcome10 code + cashrewards/shopback

    • What does it look like packed down?

    • +6

Can confirm, just bought for $139 C&C, cheers!

  • What's normal price?

    • 499

      • +11

        Lol

        • +2

          Lol

          Indeed

          • @willyroo: $499 is the price on the website linked? It's not my fault it's overpriced.

    • The "club price" was $200. It was 200 in the easter sale for everyone which sounded great against the 500 rrp… but then after the easter sale the "club price" remained at 200. Atleast this time it does actually have some money off

I have never used the dune brand before, but they are rising in popularity. Possibly a home brand? Either way this is a really good deal for someone new to camping, cheaper than a lot of single swags out there.

    • +4

      It's anaconda's brand

    • I have their high end directors chair, seems pretty good quality for the price (not the cheapest, but not the most expensive either).

    • +1

rising in popularity cause they are cheap….

  • This or the Adventure Kings one?

    • +5

They are similar quality but Anaconda is easier to deal with if you have problems.

    • Neither… Jolly Swagman.. my double is 12yrs old.

    • Have heard an abnormal amount of stories about Adventure Kings and their returns policy, taking months to get any action on stuff. Based on that alone I have avoided using them.

  • +9

Did I need it? No, did I buy it? Yes

  • +17

Can it survive the sandstorms of Arrakis?

  • +2

Didn’t need it, but couldn’t let it pass!

    Great price!!

  • I'm tempted by this, does it fit in a standard car boot though? seems massive.

    • +2

We have the King's double swag, it is massive and won't fit in a standard car boot. But should fit down the length of the car if you have a wagon and can put the seats down. Otherwise strap it to the roof.

      • +3

This is the weirdest thing about moderns "swags" to me. a four man dome tent plus 2 inflatable mattresses, plus sleeping bags takes up about half the space and takes less time to set up.

        • +4

Strong disagree here. max 2min set up and 5min packdown in a swag with my mattress, sleeping bag and pillow rolled into one. Way quicker than inflating/deflating air mattresses, tent poles, and stuffing 4-man tents into undersized bags.

          • +1

@knighty: the swag in this picture has more poles than my dome tent

    • +1

      This is from the website
      Packed Dimensions 141 x 26 x 26 cm

      • More like 50cm diameter once unpacked and re-rolled…

      • +1

Yeah, maybe while in the box. But good luck getting it like that again once you've used it!

    • define standard car

  • +1

    Thanks OP, grabbed one.

  • What would be the reasons for you to choose a swag compared to a normal tent? I see tents are more spacious than swag in most cases which "should" be more comfortable if I am not mistaken…

    • +3

Swag is lower profile, has mattress and much warmer.

    • +10

Swags take literally 2min to unroll and put the poles in. Packing up takes 5min. And that includes your pillow, mattress and bedding. That's why they are very popular with car based camping where people move every night. Setting up a tent, mattress, sleeping bag etc takes much longer.

They can also be used indoors, eg. staying at a friend's place, in a garage, in a hut.

They are designed for sleeping only. Whilst they are 100% waterproof if your were staying somewhere for a few nights you'd normally put up a tarp so you have somewhere dry to stand.

Obviously they are bulky, and only good for car based camping, but they are very comfortable!

    • +1

Speed and ease of setting up. The lower profile of the shelter means it holds up to high winds and adverse conditions much easier too. A swag should keep up with 50km/h winds, a standard tent will just get smacked about.

    • +2

      I have few of both.
      Both have their advantages/disadvantages

Blackwolf 300, Oztent RV2, Jollyswagman double and single swags.

Tents you can stand up in, store things in which is good when its pissing rain or snowing… Tents can be more comfortable space wise.. take longer to setup.. More area in them can make it harder to warm up

Swags are quick to put up, warmer, smaller to transport (My RV2 needs a roof rack but had one already/Blackwolf fits across backset of the GU) , and good option is an awning to setup swag under. Have woken up covered in snow in my swag, and inside you'd have never known it was that cold outside. Soon did once i unzipped it though :(

I find I take the Oztent more often than not on club trips in Victoria.

    • +1

I use my Coleman tent when my wife wants to tag along or during Summer.

I use my Swag during Winter or when solo camping for easier setup.

    • +1

      I agree with @presence’s comments.

Swags are the best. We have a caravan and swags these days, haven’t used the tent in years! (2A 2K family)

Swags for one or two nights or on the beach. Caravan the rest of the time. We have a kings double and two singles.

Swags are also great for younger kids, like one giant warm cot.

We have a 4WD with awnings and 3x3 gazebo if we want to stand up undercover. The old “instant up” tent we have is just more effort than it’s worth.

    • +1

With 1 or 2 man pop up tents, they are at least as fast as a swag, bigger sized but much smaller package and much lighter. Not as warm and perhaps not as tough, since they arent canvas and you need a separate mattress. But saving 3 or 4 minutes, maybe, with a swag doesnt seem like a good trade off unless you have a heap of space in your vehicle and dont mind sleeping in something that is like a cocoon. And can haul around something that weighs 15 or 20kg

  • +8

Great timing, when interest rates are sky rocketing

    • +1

Avoid interest rates; live in your swag.

  • -2

    16 kg!
It is as if there was a culture war. Yuppies with their fluorescent ultra-lights from overpriced "outdoor lifestyle" chains, and Bogans with the rugged, heavy-as-possible he-man swags for the back of the twin-cab. But why are swags always the same olive drab as cigarette packets. Coincidence?

    • +1

It's a good color because it doesn't stain.

      • -2

If we are going to be serious, it is because of the military connection, and "army surplus" stores of old.

        • +2

          Nobody likes serious answers

    • But why are swags always the same olive drab as cigarette packets

have you looked at sites that sell swags,… you can get all sorts of colours… even pink…

But lots of hunters use them so hot pink isnt a good idea for them.

  • +1

This is a great entry-level Swag. I had one of these which I chose over Kings because it's alot easier to return if there were any issues. Fortunately there wasn't and mine lasted 5 years of thorough use before it tore. Ended up replacing it with a black Crashpad King Single a few weeks ago.

    • Would it realistically fit 2 people?

      • +1

End to end yes but there won't be much room to spare.

  • How does one choose click and collect on that site?

    • Nvm. I had to select store again after signing in.

    • Took me a few minutes to work out too.

  • +2

Bought one for $139 will be great for my son and I camping. Thanks OP you legend!

  • What if you only have front wheel drive? ;)

  • Didn't need one. Bought one anyway just incase I do need it. This is the way.

  • +3

Make sure you try seasoning it ASAP. I bought one in "Easter sale" and it was awful for leaking. Tried seasoning 5 times, it still leaked… so left it out in the rain overnight to make sure it wasn't just my hose pressure and when i returned it was like a swimming pool inside.

Took it back in store and they made out like they have never heard of it leaking before, until i showed them a video. They refunded the cost of the swag but refused to refund the 30 delivery as it's "their policy" despite the product being faulty. Emailed customer services and received shipping refund week later.

I was also surprised how much room it took up when rolled… it filled half a prado with the seats down.

Bought an oztrail blockout fast frame tent instead for 70 more in a sale, folds to around 1/4 the size and is a 4person full height tent

    • I bought one of these today but reading your comment here now, I'm thinking that I should get a refund before I even pick it up.

      • -1

Every product has returns, even a car you pay 50k+ for.

The likelihood is you'll have zero issues, and if you do, you'll get a resolution as the person you replied to did.

      • For the current price, if you get one that isn't faulty it will be a good buy. But just make sure you try seasoning it as soon as possible so you can return it easily if it doesn't become waterproof.

    • Did you manage to take a photo of it packed in the Prado? Could it be more compact if the mattress could be rolled tighter?

      • +1

Never took a photo I'm afraid… I'm sure you could get it smaller if you tried hard enough but I was just packing it to return to the store… if you look at the reviews the first one for me is from someone called "marama". They have a photo of it rolled up on the floor… notice it is next to a bookshelf unit and drawers and try and reference them for scale. It does a good job at showing how big it actually is when rolled… but as a caveat I have a feeling they have rolled that up without having the mattress out for 24 hours so it isn't as fat as it would be when you've let it spring up a bit… but it probably shows you the size you could achieve if you try and roll it tightly

        • Thank you for pointing out the photos in the reviews.

  • Thanks OP, picked one up.

Any suggestions or current deals on a Gazebo to go along with this one?

  • Terrible reviews from people that actually tried to use it. I'm curious as to why would anyone buy this kind of a thing made out of cotton/poly canvas? Surely cotton can't be a good thing for this.

  • maybe thats why its cheap

  • It hasn't expired. It's still $149.

  • I bought this swag after seeing this deal. I seasoned it three times then after last nights light rain, it still leaked in at least two spots. So I'll be taking it back for a refund.
