Lol I paid almost this much for a 3070

    • +6

At least your not 1 of those morons that has to lie about saying they mined back the value of an overpriced card lol i'll give you that

      • +2

Most people that did mine back in 2020, like I have with the techfast's first 3080 deal back then, would have got the value back. I have mined approx 0.6 eth by today, selling as I went along.

      • +1

They only mined the value back if they sold before crypto dropped to its current levels.

    • +6

      Ill do one better i paid $1350 for a 3060Ti :(

    • $2k less than what i paid for this card when it released… Then i added a $500 water block…. its given me a good year of use tho, so f*** it i guess…

      • +2

        $4k for a years use?

        • +1

I wasn't going a year without a video card, and I wasn't putting an air cooled card in my pc after spending so much on the custom loop. And I wanted a card that could push 120fps at 4k to do the oled justice..

Not saying I'm happy about what I spent, but at the time I bought it, it's not like I had many other options

          • +1

@DanielP2: Yeah I totally understand, but you will definitely get more than one year out of it!

            • +1

@starspawn: Oh absolutely, I didn't mean it that way. If I even consider upgrading to next gen my wife will castrate me.
I just meant I could have waited a year to get it cheaper, but then I would have missed out on the past year of usage :)

              • +1

@DanielP2: Haha great stuff, now I'm on the same page with you =)

    • Paid 1800 for the noctua 3070 like two month before the price drop

    • +12

I'm voting no chance to this, thought I do hope so for everyone who has been hoddling for 2 years

      • +14

Nvidia will remove from sale before anywhere near that price.

        • +4

          And inflation and tumbling AUD…

        • -1

$99 by the end of year 2030, keep hodling, you can do it.

  • -4

This is not the cheapest. it was nearly 50 bucks cheaper this morning, but I'm going to hold till 1K

    • Where? Could not find any deal posted for it today.

    • +14

That's an Asus Tuf for $1450 vs Asus Strix for $1499.

      Comparing apples to oranges

      • It's the same manufacturer & the same type of card just not as high end.
This is more like comparing a mandarin to an orange. :)

Many more price drops are coming in the next 1-2 months.

      • +2

Realistically it doesn't make that much difference, especially with TUF vs STRIX

  • -4

Buy now before China disciplines Taiwan coz if this happens bye bye semiconductor prices.

    • china is a$$ hole

      but not stupid

  • -1

    Juicy price

Unless you're doing deep learning of any sort, just get the RX 6900 XT for $999. Paying 50% for very similar performing cards because of a brand preference is absolutely ridiculous.

It's almost like we've been trapped in NVIDIA's Stockholm syndrome bubble; they've jacked up prices so damn much, we see this as a good deal when it absolutely isn't.

    • +17

Totally agree that the 6900 XT is a better option for $500 less.

Just remember, most manufacturers need to (and will) drop prices even further.

      • +2

Absolutely, with large quantities of stock still to be cleared and the release of the 4000 series hi-end in October prices will fall further.

If you need a card, absolutely get one but prices of these will continue to fall as both mining cards and people trying to sell the 3000/6000 series Nvidia/AMD hit second hand market.

      • It's still a good deal for Team Green people.

    • Your correct in most cases, if your playing pancake the 6900xt is just as good maybe up to 4k. Some people are playing VR and nvidia seems to be a lot more optimised. That being said i sold my 3080 as it was struggling to play the G2 for flight sims so for some people its not a simple $/fps equation.

      • +1

I agree & that small percentage of people that need extremely high end cards are still better off waiting for the Next Gen.

      • +1

Curiously, as I've been looking at one for this purpose, what are you going to use in it's place that will run the G2 significantly better?

      • Same experience here. My 3080 struggles with the G2 on FS2020.

      • Is it because of VRAM limitation? because the Ti isnt that much faster anyway.

        • Not sure i ever hit the Vrm limit, it was playable, i just had to compromise on quality to get stable FPS. I will get a GPU that doeant have to compromise. Been toying with a 3080ti/3090 or even 6900xt but should just wait. I could buy a 3090 right now for the same price i sold my 3080, but figure that will be better to wait for 4000 series.

          • @lew380: Ya, the Ti may not help much. 4xxx series it is.

    • +2

It’s not that it’s a good deal, it’s that the value of used Radeon cards goes through the floor, which is ironic as they’re performance is usually better once they start to get older

    • How about RTX in Doom Eternal, Metro Exodus or say Cyberpunk? Am I missing them much if I buy Radeon? Also Red dead redemption 2 on my lisy. Do I miss much with the ultra settings without Nvidia gpu?

      • +3

You won't miss anything. Save the difference and buy a premium oled monitor/tv instead.

    • +1

Are you taking DLSS2 and RT performance into consideration?

      • +8

Is DLSS2 and RT worth a 50% price increase over?

Sure if you have an unlimited budget, but for most people the pros don't warrant a $500 price hike.

And for what it's worth FSR 2.0 is pretty good, and we have RSR for literally any other game which works decent as well.

    • +3

I think this comment needs to be preserved, it's 100% right and it'll probably be right for generations to come, unless Radeon finally take the crown for the first time in, what? 10 years? Might not have been that long since they were ahead, but right now they're virtually neck and neck. Ray Tracing, DLSS, G-Sync, Nvenc, CUDA, if the rasterisation performance is not within 5-10% dollar to dollar, then it's not worth it.

      • +5

Ray Tracing, DLSS, G-Sync, Nvenc, CUDA are only a plus if you need them & are willing to pay the extra $$ to have them.

I can't remember the last time someone asked me to recommend a card that has better Ray Tracing instead of the one with the highest raw performance.

It really does depend on your individual case usage & how deep your pockets are.

        • +1

"…CUDA are only a plus if you need them"

if you need something then it's not a "plus", it's a MUST

Waterproof feature on a camera is not a plus for a surfer who wants to record themselves, it's a must, that they either afford or not buy at all, because the alternative no matter how cheap is completely useless.

    • Unfortunately, for now Nvidia has the far superior HVEC codec. So for any kind of professional game capturing or streaming Nvidia is the way to go.

      • +2

Don’t professionals use capture cards instead of relying on the GPU

    • -2

      You could be right.

I certainly feel like I went nVidia because I trusted the brand more for VR, given the things I read online about it being better for VR.

      • +2

In what way is it better for VR?

        • -2

I read about it being better optimised, less compatibility issues and then there's Ray tracing and DLSS, etc.

There's a lot of talk about cards among the sim racing scene and I just listened to the masses because my knowledge on the subject is limited.

    • How are the radeon drivers now? That used to be the reason to choose nvidia. Is the DLSS as good as nvdias?

  • +2

I would buy it if I didn’t spend 2k on keyboards damn

    • +1

      What keyboards?

      • +1

Multiple recently and now I’m broke. :( stay away from customized

        • +10

Yeah I just spent 2k on a banana. It was a good banana but now I'm feeling some buyers remorse

    • +5

How do you tell if someone uses a custom mechanical keyboard….. OH! They will tell you lol 😂

    • Legend. Got to get that brass weight, ceramic and/or metal keycap somehow.

I hope you got your most preferred spring weight and switch type nailed down….

      Very lucrative few years…

  • Just drop a bit more and I'm biting this 😬

    • Thanks for th update.

  • Hoddle St

  • Can we stop normalising $1500 3080ti? Thanks

    • Can we stop saying normalising

  • Have to say rx 6900 XT is a good deal compared to this at $999, where to find one new at this price though?

  • -1

That's a good price. I only recently paid that for my Asus TUF 3080.

  • +5

If war on Taiwan ignites, the price will double if not triple.

    Good with with life then.

    • +1

And it will be Americas fault

      • +2

Even the Taiwanese were like why the heck are you (Pelosi) here?

        • +1

Probably grease the palms of some business leaders about upcoming subsidies and then straight back home to tell her husband about it so he can use his gut feel and invest in semiconductor companies about to explode.

      • Why would China not be at fault for their own actions if they invaded Taiwan?

        • Because America is forcing their hand. They could just leave things as they are.

          • +1

@ItchyBallsack: somewhat similar to what has happened with Ukraine. America would only benefit from getting its rival (China) into war.

            • +1

@yoba: kinda similar but not exactly the same. Pelosi didnt have to visit Taiwan and wasnt invited. For Ukraine, I think it was more about placement of weapons and cozying with Nato that bothered Russia.

          • -1

@ItchyBallsack: How would America force China's hand? Isn't China in control of China's actions?

            • @CodeExplode: It's as what yoba and kehuehue said. America didn't need to send Pelosi there to stir up tensions. We don't want an another war and drag Australia along with it.

              • @ItchyBallsack: Plus in the last 50 years America started more wars and invaded more countries than Russia and China combined.

              • @ItchyBallsack: China isn't forced to start a war because Pelosi visited Taiwan. They are responsible for their own actions. "Look what you made me do" is one of the most cliched lines of abusive whine-bullies everywhere, who are never responsible for their own actions.

You guys have clearly drank too much propaganda. Nobody is responsible for China going to war against a much smaller country except China.

                • @CodeExplode: So America isn’t a bigger bully for invading Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria recently? Those guys have no ways to defend themselves. And they cooked up lies about Iraq having nukes and committed countless war crimes which they tried to cover up, and when Julian Assange exposed it all they are trying to jail him for 175 years? Who’s the bully now?

                  • @ItchyBallsack: I never said anything about America being right to invade those places, and I voted against it.

The only thing I asked was how America would be to blame for China invading Taiwan, when clearly China would be to blame for their own actions, and the only way somebody could say otherwise is if they've swallowed whiny propaganda.

                    • +1

@CodeExplode: I'm originally from the Middle East and what the US is known for is pressuring one party into attacking or waging war against the other.

The China Taiwan situation has been going on for sometime now and it's not in China's economical interest to attack Taiwan but rather peacefully come to an agreement but now that the US is butting in, things might go side ways.

And who's paying the price? Us little people and those that die because of war. Terrible.

                      • @itsmoe: The US can't make China declare war on Taiwan though just because somebody visited, that's 100% on them for responsibility, and the fact that some people are shifting blame says to me that they plan to invade and a propaganda effort is underway to downplay their obvious responsibility for their own actions and more impressionable types are now parroting lines which obviously make no sense outside of the propaganda bubble.

                        • @CodeExplode: Well Pelosi knows 100% that her visit will stir up tensions and yet she still choose to visit, and China started war games in response. It takes just 1 wrong move by either party for this to turn into ww3. I’m not a fan of China or Russia but America is 100% the aggressor here.

                          • +1

@ItchyBallsack: I'm not a fan of these big dogs trying to prove who's balls are bigger. America just like Russia and just like China and many other countries out there need to calm the F down and let people live in peace.

                        • +1

@CodeExplode: So what gives the US the right to involve itself and in turn involve Australia too? Where is the US when it comes to other countries being occupied and the people of those countries dying on the regular? Or they are very selective with human rights and who deserves to be treated like humans?
