7 Days Free nbn Trial (New Customers Only) @ Launtel

900

Needed something quick and temporary because Telstra stuffed up my service, signed up for Launtel last night and was connected within 15 minutes. Realised a few hours later that I never put in any payment details and got an email saying that my free trial ends after 7 days.

Connection has been rock solid so far, too bad I didn't choose the highest plan as I can't change it now without ending the trial lol

You have shitty equipments and want to blame Launtel ?

      • +2

        It looks that way:

        on the 1000/50 plan
        default Belong modem
        old Telstra Smart Modem
        budget modem an TP-Link AC1200

It might be wise to Google something like>> router for 1000 mbps << you need a quality not old or budget…

        • wanted to ask similar question

I am with Telstra 50/20 and using their Technicolour TG799vac gateway - will it work with same plan 50/20 Launtel ?

(I checked on whirlpool page of NBN compatible modems and it is there, but I'd appreciate any real life feedback)

@SurprisedPanda: I'm certainly no expert but if it's working now on Telstra NBN it should work fine on Launtel NBN… 50mbps isn't exactly demanding on the gear, if you wanted to try a gigabit NBN plan then you'd probably have to look at a more capable router I assume…

      🤣🤣That's what called self-incriminating testimony:

7 Days Free nbn Trial (New Customers Only) @ Launtel - OzBargain

well I get the 800mbps on a Wired connection on my Xbox

If you get fast speeds on Wired connection to router, then it's not Launtel's or NBN's fault but your router's wifi antenna or chips.

I hope they don't extend your free trial as you seem to be a suck on resources better spent elsewhere on things within Launtel's or NBN control.

Their support hasn't been too helpful either. At the time of writing this I have 2 days left of my trial and I don't think I will be back unless they extended my trial for the issues I have been experiencing as I have not been able to enjoy the speeds what so ever.

Contact the router's manufacturing support or router users online community. Telstra Smart Modem is quite popular so there is an active user community.

You could also try unofficial user support - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/12498602/redir

    • Why are you using a modem on what I assume is FTTP/HFC with those speeds you ordered from Launtel?

As others have pointed out, it could be the equipment you're using that's giving you less than ideal results

  • Just signed up moments ago for a free trial as suffering tremendously from mate. Do they run on PPPoE as well? or just reboot modem should do?

    • A reboot of modem should be fine assuming your previous carrier was not set up using Username and password method.

      • Thanks, I did have to change from PPPoE to DHCP as Mate uses username and password. The churn only took 15 mins but speed isn't as fast as expected? Also for some reason some websites won't load (including OzB) but would work fine on my mobile data. Any ideas?

        • Yeah I’m on like 70/20 ish on 100/40 plan, on FTTN at the max speed for
Me it’s usually over 90/35 ish with Telstra

Will this is interesting - My Telstra 2 month $2 expires on the 16th. I quit Aussie Broadband on the 23rd Feb which means 6 months from that is 23rd August to use another 1 month fre

I could use this from 16th then transfer to Aussie BB on the 23rd for free month??

  • I just ported away from Launtel for 2 reasons. Initially I was getting great connectivity but then there was the persistant defaulting of IP geolocation which would permeate through my internet settings including Android TV and related TV apps to default to Sydney rather than Melbourne. This resulted in my 7 App constantly showing Sydney news and NRL and for a Melbourne AFL man, I couldn't stand it any longer. TBF they tried to fix it (to no avail) and their service has always been personal and prompt, but then i started having intermittant dropouts more and more so that was the coupe de grace.

    • Had you tried turning off CG-NAT, Launtel charges +$0.15 per day but it's worth it.

Aussie didn't charge extra, but given their pricing they should have enough profit. CG-NAT is now something you have to opt out of.

      • Actually I'm having the same issue, contacted support and they where telling me I don't understand the difference between a bit & a byte, in regards to my complaint about having a Tasmanian IP for a Melbourne connection. My Plex isn't working outside my house since I switched, will be porting out.

  • Does the free 7 day trial include 1000/50?

    • Yes

    • I signed up for 400/50 & was able to upgrade to 1000/50 within the trial for free.

  • Just signed up using the referral link? How long does it take to receive the $25 credit voucher??

    Thanks all.

    • It's noted in T&C's here: "Your account credit will appear once the person you have referred has $50 in recharges on their account (cumulative) and are off the free trial period."

      • Honestly that’s pretty generous. I don’t need the nbn most of the time as I’m not home and this will work for me - I’ll hit the $50 tier probably some time on

        • is it?
I am currently with leaptel and have referred 3 people - I get the $50 each time so have got $150 so far.
          They should pay it instantly.

Launtel is now my favorite ISP

Sign up was a breeze and now the status page has my order as complete. Will go home to check when I finish work today

Their online portal page is very detailed showing which uni-d port is connected to and their online chat is pretty prompt too.

I'm like these guys so far!

I might stay with these guys for a few more days after my trial is over

    • yeah pretty impressed at the whole process, showing order status etc. and even an email from support for a followup.

  • Can you schedule a connection date?

  • How do u get the referral code? The link for random just opens Launtel site but no code?

    • Check the browser link bar, you can copy/paste it.

  • anyone know if they do a credit check on you?

    • Don’t believe so, it’s basically prepaid

  • Can I have a dynamic IP during the 7 days trial? Or cg-nat only?

  • great service. i wonder can someone else sign up for the free try later on at the same address using a different email and and phone number?

    • It's only a 7 day free trial…….would it be that big a deal if not? Regardless, I am sure if you needed, just give them a call and I have no doubt they would be happy to.

    • Appears it ceased

  • What are the conditions to get the referral credit? How much must be spent?

Switched recently from Superloop to Launtel as I was having issues with unstable latency (gaming) and quite frequent dropouts. I have now had a 100% stable connection during the 7 day trial period and latency in game fluctuate much much less (I am located in Rockingham, WA). Overall, Launtel have gained a new customer!

  • You have to charge with $10 now to get a 7 day trial, still good anyway

  • Similar to Lukey90, Superloop was dropping out like mad and was becoming unrealiable - especially for the top dollar they charge. Switched to Launtel simply because I will not be home as much and can pause the connection when I am away.

Very happy one week in - not one drop out and consistent speeds.

I have tried around 8 different nbn companies and i think i finally found the best. I was up and running after 2 mins. Great speeds locally and internationally, and knowing we can change plans daily, like for example some days we may need more uploads and we can temp upgrade to that plan for a day and back to another plan is really great. Excellent

  • Anyone on Launtel use Usenet on 1gpbs and can tell me what sort of speeds they get with one provider?

  • Superloop has increase the NBN 100/40 price to $95.

    Any comparable alternatives

    • You would have to move every 6-12 months to get significantly cheaper. That is about the going price.

Eg you could go Tangerine Telecom for $74.90/month for 6 months ($89.90 thereafter) or Leaptel $84.95/month for 12 months ($99.95 thereafter) or similar.

You would save $10 a month or so if you would be happy with 100/20 instead of 100/40.

  • express route set up to their best infrastructure for 7 days then cut over to wider poool

  • Love the 500/200 plan, was on 1000/50 but the extra upload is fantastic for my business. The $100 refundable static IP is awesome. Service, for the few times I’ve needed it is top notch.

  • +3

Launtel are fantastic. Just a shame they’re too expensive to keep as an ongoing provider for basic needs.

  • Hi OP, is this the cheapest and reliable NBN provider?

  • +1

    Those prices are a rip.

    1Gps - $4.20 x 365 /12= $127.50 per month.

I'm runnining 1Gps Leaptel which is $99 per month and the connection and speeds are rock solid.

    • Launtel were never cheap nor pretend to be.

Why use: It's when the crap hits the fan that they are great. You get to deal with their engineers and not some CS who reads from a script.

      Other Pros for many are:
      - They bill by the day so you can Pause your connected anytime (if away etc) and only pay for active days.
      - You can change your connection Speed daily and just pay for for preferred speed "per day"

It's not for those looking for cheapest price.

I took up the free trail after being with Aussie BB for many years and experienced constant speed and stability issues. More than a year later we are still with Launtel. We wish we had made the switch sooner. Give the trial a go and see if its a good fit for you.

  • Can anyone let me know how much notice time I need to give the provider in advance if I want to change the speed of my internet the next day?

e.g. if my speed is 100/20 today but I request a speed change at like 7pm tonight, will it be immediately done on the same day, or will it be changed tomorrow? Am I able to set a specific time for the speed change to occur on an app or something?

    • Usually kicks in within 10-15m for me, though sometimes there are outages (causing delays measured in hours or even days). They will usually post about these issues on their portal though, and it's almost always a problem with NBN directly, not Launtel.

  • I signed up to launtel and hadnt setup my internet (my lease got pushed back a week.) And launtel contacted me thinking I couldnt get it working, I told them about my lease and paused the service for a week until i moved in. Great company, been with them since.

great reviews, i certainly give them a try in the future, thanks everyone for their input

  • I doubt this can be a free trial for a brand new development as I haven't paid the $300 NBN tax. I just tried to sign up and it mentioned nothing about $300, but other providers do want it.

  • FYI, NQFastAF (400/50) has been deprecated. I switched to 100/20 temporarily, tried to switch back to 400/50 and it was unavailable on their site. Chat with their support line confirmed the deprecation. By the sounds of it, it was a shaped 1000/50 plan, which due to the shaping implementation would sometimes drop packets/have connection issues - so they've simply disabled it.

The $4.10/day charge for 400/50 was lower than the 1000/50 plan ($4.20), but I didn't mind losing 600 on the downlink to save the $0.10/day. Oh well!
