Free Crypto Tax Reports (up to The Value of $389 Each) @ Koinly

1040
SWYFTX722

I was beating myself for missing this deal. So I did a random Google search on Koinly codes just to try my luck and this one from Swyftx came up.

Says 30% off the tax report for both new and existing users, but I just tried redeeming this code and managed to get Pro plan for free for both FY22 and FY23. YMMV but give this code a try and see if it works for you.

There will be a few bitter people who will miss this deal and like the 6 others before it.

  • :( not swiftly customer

    • Works regardless on Koinly

    • You don't have to be Swyftx customer

    • Just simply enter and apply the code at koinly checkout.

  • Finally grabbed for both 2021-2022 and 2022-2023.

  • Thanks! I finally managed to grab one.

    Good one πŸ‘

Though the post should link to Koinly?😁

  • Thanks OP :)

  • Thanks OP!

  • If i want a tax report from mining, should i just add the eth address? Or need to link the exchange too

    • you should link all exchanges, all wallets, all everything, or you're missing the benefits of having something tracking all of it.

      • Isn't this a security risk? Linking your wallet to some third party reporting tool? No issues with funds being stolen this way?

        Genuine question.. new to this.

        • Its just the API, but feels more accurate manually adding csv files.

          • @rover100: Yeah downloaded the CSV for the CDC app, couldnt find how to do API from the app. The online site doesn't provide a login, and seems you have to convert your account to exchange or some BS which became too hard (particularly if it renders the visa card option useless.

            • @G-rig: Don't use the API from CdC, it's missing random things - the CSVs from the CdC app and Exchange are the way to go.

        • +2

No security risk - you're only granting READ access. The tools can't actually access your wallet - they can only see what's moved in and out of it.

        • +1

You're allowing the reporting tool to read your transaction history, not make new transactions.

For the API keys on exchanges, most exchanges allow you to create read only keys which can't transact.

  • Thanks firestint!!!!!

    https://cointax.wtf/calculator

Free and does the job just fine. You may just need to adjust the date format in coinspot csv output files.

    • Just read that this thing calculates using FIFO method only currently.

      • What does koinly do? I thought FIFO is the right way ?

        • Koinly has a few options. FiFO, LIFO and a couple others, with FIFO as the default.

        • +2

FIFO is the "normal" way - you wouldn't usually choose a different method unless you have a good reason.

          • +1

@Nom: I find that it depends on how you do your trades, and whether you want to realize a gain or loss?

            For ex:

            Buy 1 BTC @ $54k
            Buy 1 BTC @ $28k
            Sell 1 BTC @ $32k

The Sell would be a $22k loss under FIFO but a $4k gain under LIFO. I prefer LIFO in this case (I don't mind waiting for the return of $54k BTC, or maybe narrowing down the loss).

            • +1

@JaxSantiago: Right, but the NEXT sale of the second BTC makes up all the difference… and then some (if the price changes dramatically). For this reason you can be significantly better off with either method, but there's no way to predict which !

    • thanks for sharing

  • I read somewhere that between the free version and paid it's the same if you don't have too many transactions. So no paid ver is okk

    • It's not because you can't generate any report on the free plan

      • Oh I see. Okay purchasing a plan it is then.

        OP uncovered any more?

  • I have a question. If i have not touched my account for a year and might have moved from 1 currency to another, (Bitcoun to Etjereum internall. Do I still need to lodge it ubder tax returns.I paid nearly 1400 dollars last yera??? PLZ HELP.

    • If you converted from BTC to ETH, yes you would have to lodge if you had a capital gain.

  • If you receive affiliate payment (commission) in Swyftx and you don't have an ABN, is that payment considered - and has to be declared - as Income in your tax return?

    • Usually yes - but Koinly will already know this and will categorise it for you. It knows what is Income and what is CGT, and calculates each figure accordingly.

      • It treated the affiliate payments as Deposit for me. And hence don't show as Income on the Summary.

        • +2

OK, then I think your next port of call is your accountant for a definitive answer.

Staking interest and Referal payments are income in Koinly - not sure why it would class this differently.

  • Tried that code in the OP at the time of the other thread and didn't work.

Shame you can't just buy koinly now and use for both tax years?
(ie. 365 day subscription like any other software)

  • Missed again..
Looks like I have to beat myself twice to get a free code

  • +1

'I was beating myself'……..way too much info.

  • Missed it!… By 9 hours.

And I'm a big swyftx user.. They did not promote this very well, whether intentionally or not.

    • And I'm a big swyftx user.

Out of curiousity, is there a reason? There are far better exchanges with less fees whether trading or withdrawal fees. E.g. Kraken which also has PayID.

      • None other than for some reason wanting to go with an Australian company which I think swyftx has the lowest fees. I use kraken as well for staking so maybe I should move everything there..

  • Missed it again… not a good Ozbargainer! Why did I need to sleep!?

  • Missed again haha hopefully the next one posted can also comment in here! Subscriptions didn't seem to notify me!

    • The OP didn't post for Koinly. They linked to Swyftx. I changed it but by that time the subscriptions had been fired.

  • +4

Those who all missed it, follow the below steps to not miss it next time if someone post it on OzBargain.

    1. Search for Tax software and copy the OB URL or use this URL - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/tax-software
    2. Go to Feeder.co and add the extension to your browser.
    3. Click on the Extension Icon and click on +
    4. Enter the URL in "search for feed" and search
    5. Click on Follow on the Feed and on the next window adjust the settings as per your requirements and add.

Done - Every time there is something related to Tax Software you will get a notification.

You can do so for any other feed too, it will only work if there is a feed so look for tags instead of any URL.
To make it easier, Pin the Feeder extension icon to the browser and visit the URL on OB that you want to add, if you see a + on the extension icon it can be added to the feed. If no, it can't be.

Hope this helps. Never miss a deal again!!

    • ozB also has a feature to send you an email when your tagged phrase has new items listed, but it's designed so poorly it takes me forever to find it every time

      • but it's designed so poorly it takes me forever to find it every time

Why is it designed poorly? You can find it by searching for the phrase and then getting a search alert.

e.g. do a search alert for tax software and then create an alert by hitting the create alert button.

        searchalert

Keep in mind deals will only show up in the tax software tag if the OP has tagged it properly or a mod/power user has edited it after creation.

Alternatively you can subscribe to stores, e.g. Koinly, then hit the subscribe button to be notified (via email/site notification).

        subscribe

        • I think maybe I expect to be able to subscribe from e.g. this page https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/tax-software?

not trying to talk ****, just being real that the process is never obvious to me even after having done it before

          • @[Deactivated]: Tags show up only if people have tagged it in the deal or a power user/moderator later. Search alerts will pick up the phrase in the title and body and will generally result in better findings. Maybe it's worth putting a notice on the tag page to do a search for better results.

        • the notifications for alerts as per your steps only appears in OzB and if opted for emails.
In my steps, it shows up as numbers on the Extension icon in the browser itself.
You may not have OzB open all the time, but browser in my opinion is used all the time.

    • +1

That is an incredibly smart idea. I've always had to search through different related words after words and having an application that finds what you're looking for an related types is amazing

    • These deals are popular and for the Feeder to send notifications in 2 hours only defeats the purpose of getting one for this deal. Wanting less than 2 you gotta pay. Do you have any other feed suggestions?

      • The feeder has the update speed option of 1, 5, 10, 30 Minutes as well.

  • missed it again :(

  • Cool thanks now I just need some software to track my Herbalife losses too.

  • I just used 'crypto tax calculator'…

  • New code here if you missed out and are quick, posted by the rep.
