Keychron Q1 (Knobless) QMK Custom Hot-Swap Barebone Mech Keyboard Grey $129 (Was $179) + Delivery @ PC Case Gear

260

The Keychron Q1 QMK Custom Hot-Swap Barebone Mech Keyboard Grey is a 75% sized keyboard that features a gasket-mounted hot-swappable design, sound-absorbing foam, Gateron screw-in PCB stablisers, hot-swappable PCB that supports 5-pin switches, south-facing RGB LEDs, USB-C interface, Keychron badge that can be replaced with a switch/key, Windows and macOS mode switch, all on a CNC aluminium body, is compatible with QMK and VIA software, and includes a premium coiled cable.

Please note: This keyboard is a barebone edition - assembly is required and only requires switches and keycaps (sold separately).

Features:
QMK/VIA programmable
Gasket mount
Aluminium case
Hot-swappable PCB
South facing PCB
Comes with fancy coiled cable

Issues:
V1 version has no knob (although my other keyboard I barely use it)
V1 may have issues with compatibility with some keycap profiles
Requires some modification to get a pleasing sound and especially remove the ping sound from the case (force break mod being most important here, but can also do other mods too, e.g. tape mod).

Recent similar (expired) deal for the complete keyboard (not barebones): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/694851

Likely better value, although if you're not interested in the included keycaps or switches then no point paying extra to buy a full kit IMO. Could wait to see if something similar pops up again in the future.

Shipping for me was $24 to WA (rip).

Other keyboard that may be of interest
Keychron V1 just released overseas which should be knobless $119 assembled, $99 barebones (+$10 to either price for a knob). Although this is a plastic case and not gasket mounted.

Shipping unfortunately will probably kill this deal with PCCG usual shipping price history

    • Agreed. Shipping cost for me was $24 to WA. Still comes in under the prices elsewhere at the moment, but definitely makes the deal less sweet.

Great deal, op! I can see the price of Q1 been slowly declining over the months. I would get one if I hadn't already invested in a gmmk pro :)

How've you been finding it? Will be moving from TKL to 75% with this one. Sounds like both require a bit of modding to make them sound awesome. But once modded they're great!

    • Maybe because the Q1v2 was released.

      • I think with the Q1v2 having been released and with the upcoming V1 (for Aus market) the Q1v1 may continue to drop a bit in price.

Knobless? That's discrimination in more than one way.

You can grab an EC11 rotary knob and solder a knob on yourself (the true ozbargainer way), the pcb should have the correct mounting points for it.

129 for a barebones keyboard? Is it made of lettuce?
