Has interference with mt3 and xda keycaps.

Although if you are just going to use it as is, it will be fine. Look up break mod q1 on youtube

i don't know if that is true or not, but no one uses those useless keycap profiles anyways, lol.

0.0000001% of people out there are out of luck, i guess. lol

all my GMK keycaps have a cherry profile.

It's literally written on keychrons website so yeah it's a thing. Just giving info to help informed decisions.

      • XDA is the real shit

      • +1

XDA and MT3 are both fairly popular, especially XDA because a lot of the very cheap keycaps are xda.

They're both good alternatives for people who don't want to spend $200 on keycaps and still have a 2 year lead time :)

    • My right shift also scrapes with cherry profile keycaps. Minor problem but worth noting.

No Volume Knob/Wheel, not better than GMMK Pro (IMO).

GMMK Pro would be far more expensive than this though. Even the barebone is like $250, so you'd need to add the price of switches and the keycaps.

The Q1 Knob version looked like they've adjusted a lot of things, so I am guessing even if you don't want a knob, that might be something that's worth considering (or wait for those revisions to come to the knobless version).

Though on second thought, many of those changes may not be something you need, More compatibility with keycaps isn't something that you need unless you are going to go with something like MT3, few minor adjustments here and there. At this price, it does look very nice.

i own the GMMK Pro and this Q1. you are right, the only 1 thing that the GMMK Pro has over the Q1 is the knob. Most people don't even use the knob making the GMMK Pro useless. Q1 has a real gasket mount and feels great to type on, GMMK Amateur has a "gasket mount" stiff as a tray mount. on top of that it cost more. I am still trying to sell my GMMK Amateur, but no one wants it because they rather buy the Q1.

      • Q1 ver1 is much more hollow than any alu build keyboards, requires heavy mods to reduce the hollow sound. Australia Mechanical Market is pretty boring. I am living in Vietnam, there are bunch of knob keyboards available. It is surprise that there is no Akko or Fl-esport in Australia. They are well-built keyboards with affordable price. Both are better than Keychron. Keychron is somehow overrated as they invest much in the marketing.

        • Akko at pccg

        • akko is pretty bad, but those jelly black switches are fantastic. i thought i bought a budget gasket monster in the ACR67. Absolute trash, biggest waste of money i every wasted. it flexes as much as my GMMK PRO, which is absolutely no flex.

Q1 ver2 has knob. Beware of the Ver1, its pretty hollow unless if you like the hollow sound, u can buy it. Otherwise, wait for Ver 2, maybe better. I doubt the build quality of keychron but there is no other budget alu build available in Australia. Akko Mod 007 is well considered for alu build. The only downside of Akko is there north facing pcb.

    • There's solder joints for a rotary encoder on the PCB if you're bothered. Just have to flash the PCB with some firmware to get it working.

  • Keychron Q2 if you want the knob. Personally, I can't live without bluetooth/wireless.

    • they have Q1v2 with a knob option

      • first thing i googled was how to mod it. Loads of videos on it.

        • yea, you can do that too. i used the knob like the 1st week that i got it. never used it again. the knob looks pretty on the keyboard i guess, but its just hype. look at all the top end keyboards, they dont have a knob either.

  • Reviews online seems to state that these are really hollow and pingy. Are these problems solved with mods provided online?

I own a keychron k8 and was pretty happy with it so might get this as my first kb into the custom kb scene :)

Force break mod fixed the ping on my Q3.

  • Thanks, picked one up and will do the force break mod to fix pinging hopefully.

  • Bought two, feels. Like $500 board.

    • glad u enjoyed it!

should I ask for refund/replacement with mwave?

should I return for another Q1 or this is normal?

    • I am sorry to hear that. I personally don't own a Q1 model but I have heard that keychron customer service is quite receptive so it will be worth asking both Mwave and also keychron if they can offer you an exchange of some form
