Free Beat Saber Game with Meta (Oculus) Quest 2 Purchase from $629.99 Delivered @ Meta

191

Beat Saber seems to be free for any new Quest 2 Purchases after 01/08 to 31/12, just noticed the deal on the main Meta Quest splash page.

Also confirmed to be available & working on multiple Reddit posts by new owners who purchased pre price hike.

More info:
https://uploadvr.com/beat-sable-free-bundle-quest/
According to Meta, “People who purchase a new Meta Quest 2 from August 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022 and activate the device before January 31, 2023 using an account that does not already have Beat Saber enabled will be able to download Beat Saber at no additional cost for 14 days following activation.” The promotion does not apply to refurbished models.

The offer comes as Meta changes the base suggested retail price for Quest 2 from US$299 to US$399 because “the costs to make and ship our products have been on the rise.”

Beat Saber for free but a $100 price hike? Where’s the deal? You’re essentially paying $100 for Beat Saber.

    • +7

worse than that, description price is usd

    • +4

Prices go up. It's the new RRP so yeah this is a deal.

      • -1

so yeah this is a deal.

No it's not. I got it for $479 last week.

        • ……..but that was then, this is the new deal!

          • -1

@Borg: Price increases are not bargains…

            • @jv: Nobody said it was. The bargain noted here is the "Free Beat Saber Game" included.
even though I got it free with the $479 one purchased in Jul

                @Borg:

The bargain noted here is the "Free Beat Saber Game"

That was already posted in a previous thread…

    • +4

Next year you'll have the higher price and no Beat Saber

    • +1

I suppose its better than $100 price hike and no free beat saber

    • Beat Saber for free but a $100 price hike?

I bought it for $479 on 31-Jul and still got the free game…

  • +2

Definitely not a good idea to Beat Sabre in public. But from the comfort of your own home, I won’t judge

  • +7

Lol what’s the deal here? Free game but pay $150 more for the Quest?

  • +2

Any idea how you get it working if you purchased a Quest 2 prior to August? I bought a Quest 2 and activated in early June and Beat Saber shows as $46.99 for me.

EDIT - had a look at two Reddit threads and it seems that you can only get the deal if you activated (started using) your Quest 2 from 1 August onwards.

Yes. I bought for $479 on 31 July to beat the price hike. Delivered 1 August, activated today (2 August) with friend's referral link, also got free Beat Saber. Annoyed I didn't get the Prime Day deal, but at least it's better than paying $150 extra to Zuckerberg for nothing.

I would now be waiting for Black Friday deals rather than paying RRP. This is not a bargain IMO - standard RRP and the worst value it has ever been.

      • Hey I bought one on July 31st and used a referral link to create an account. I just got the device today and I'm not sure how to get the credit or if I can get beat sabre for free? Do you know what I am supposed to do?

      • Nevermind, figured it out. Awesome, old price, $47 free credit and beat saber for free.

      • I thought the Purchase had to be after August 1st to be eligable ?? ie paying the jacked up price for the unit.

  • I guess it's technically a deal, but negative value it was cheaper to buy it separately before the price hike

  • +1

    Wasn't the quest 2 $479 for the 64gb model ?

    • +2

Yes, then they replaced it with the 128gb at that price range and discontinued the 64gb.

      • +2

so they should bring back the 64gb model and put the price back to 479 then

        • +1

As a 64gb owner, no, they shouldn't. I regret it.

  • for AUD, $480 to $608?

    • 480 to $629. 608 on amazon or 455 for a renewed 128gb at the moment.

  • +3

wow…..i'm feeling happier and happier about purchasing the quest 2 for low $400's late last year

    • -8

You should never feel happy about buying a Facebook Meta product

      • On a one dimensional spectrum you'd be right.

There's utility in having one of (if not the best) cost/value VR systems out at the moment.
Everyone is free to make their own damn decision.

(I don't like Meta either but just hate people imposing their own ideologies on others)

        • +1

Oof, bad joke I suppose. Sorry

      • +1

why not? it does everything i need, i use it almost daily and enjoy it…so why shouldn't i be happy about my purchase?

    • +2

Managed to get an unopened 256GB model for $500 privately the day they announced the price hike. Thanking my lucky stars!

  • Is the beat saber only for the mobile app? Signed in on the PC Software but its says you have to purchase it

    • It's a confusing mess. Pc library shows different stuff (pc and movies only iirc, no quest)

      • Yeah its so annoying brother got the quest 2 and redeemed the game. It shows on the mobile app but not on the PC app.
Was hoping to play it via Air link using the gaming laptop (to up the visual quality).

Basically what I gathered from this experience is that stick to steam when buying VR games and just get free games on the quest app

        • Try steam before over committing.

Every 30 seconds to 5 minutes on mine it alt tabs the controls out but continues to display visuals in foreground. So literally you can't play anything because any given minute the enemy will wipe you out before you realise your no longer controlling anything and having to alt tab out and in to fix is painful

          • @justtoreply: I have a windows mixed reality VR headset myself and don't have issues with steam and my brother tried it with his seems to work fine, might be a software or something trying to take over your controls.

Could also be the gamepad support causing issues on steamvr, i noticed that taking over and crashing, turned that off in the VR settings and seems to be ok

    • PC app is basically for the Rift software, which can also be played on the Quest 2.

Quest 2 games can be purchased through the Quest itself or the mobile app.

      • Note that the Rift version on PC, although you can play it on the Quest, you need to be tethered as if it was PCVR.

If you want to play it without a PC you need to buy the Quest version, easier if you do it through the app store on the Quest itself so you don't purchase the wrong version.

        • You can physically tether or use air link for wireless tethering which comes with oculus software. Works quite well, needs good WiFi.

    256gb is now 787 from Amazon….ouch.

  • +1

When does the non-facebook login requirements start? Got a quest 2 but wanting to wait until it doesn't need a facebook login.

      • Good luck. Prior advice was January (7 months ago) iirc!

I did hear you can do it through contacting support. You'll lose any referral bonuses by not going through Facebook.

  • Wtf, I already have quest2 but this is dumb

  • +4

Im so glad i jumped on the seemingly average prime day deal for the 256gb. The Quest 2 is an amazing piece of tech. But its hard to justify a price hike IMO.

  • -1

Watch how many buy this on FOMO

  • if someone think this is similar as the first gen VR (where you put your phone inside paper headset) or just some 3D effect thingie - answer is NO

  • -1

This is hardly a deal. Suprised anyone will buy a quest 2 now with the price hike

    • IDK, many people splash out 1k+ for a new phone when their existing newish phone still works just fine. Just shows that $$ isn't a big deal for many.
