Left them this week after 3 years for Boost. Wrapped that the contract is over. Really didn't like being with them. We get all our groceries delivered from Woolworths, our car insurance. Their customer service is virtually non existent. F$#@ Olive Bot or whatever the crap that is. They have zero discretionary power to do jack shit or even make mild moves to help a customer out with simple queries. Can't get out of the maze of bs. Woolworths Mobile need to lift their game. Possibly just my opinion. They also do weird stuff like sending a text message every month to say your payment has been applied (despite it being a direct debit) Can't stop it. Text messages saying that payment is due in 2 weeks (yes I know I have %$@$ direct debit). Someone told me they couldn't stop this. Now the contract is over, all handset payments made, still charging full price even though I ported out. Yep, I get I need to pay for handset and did but still full monthly charge for plan despite not being on it all month (nor having to be in it)

    • Sorry you had all this pain. Was this for the same pre-paid plan?

      • $65.80 a month for 36 months! (I understand there was a ~$5- ~$6 discount a month to get it to the $65.80. S10+ 512GB. So I think back in those days the plan was around $15. Hope that helps answer your question. Lost 2 as wife and I couldn't get out fast enough.

      • Nah, nothing like this on prepaid.

I paid once 5 months ago, not sure I've ever heard from them since.

Telstra is trash during peak hours and service is inconsistent unless you're in CBD.

    • +2

At least with Telstra you get remote area coverage. Also with boost, you get overseas calls allowance as well.

    • +2

I’ve been with them for 5 years now and never once had a problem with coverage. This includes travel through Adelaide and outback SA, Brisbane and surrounds, Sydney.

      • Telstra or Woolworths Mobile? I'm keen to get this but reluctant with other people saying the cut down Telstra reception is nonexistant and woolworths customer service sucking so badly.
I don't need much as it would mainly be for the occasional web browsing and uni reading on a tablet… but it needs to work. I live in northern suburbs in SA.

          Aldi Mobile $99 SIM FTW!

          https://www.aldimobile.com.au/blogs/plan-details/99-super-pa…

We could never be organised enough to shop $410 once a month, which is the only way the WW deal works for us…

          • +1

@ayjay075: How does that work? A single $260 shop would make the woolworths plan cheaper

          • +1

@ayjay075: I'm confused? I think you're only getting 15gb of data over the entire 365 days. How is this a good deal?

        • It varies massively where you are and they do keep changing things. CBD Melbourne used to be rubbish on the train or in buildings but then I went into the office for the first time in a month yesterday and it was way better than it used to be.

It has worked fine for me at home though and anywhere else I go. But it seems very variable.

I also live in the northern suburbs SA and it's worked everywhere I've been locally.

    • +4

Contrary to popular beliefs. Telatra reception is shit in the metro area. I'd go optus for mostly CBD coverage.

      Regional, yes, telstra.

      • +1

Telatra reception is shit in the metro area.

There's your problem. You're using Telatra not Telstra mate

  • sadly, not for existing

  • I keep having a weird issue with WW mobile where MMS aren't being delivered (even when sending 100kb pics). The plan info clearly states standard MMS is included, but when I chat with Olive bot he insists I need to purchase an add on to send MMS.

The service is overall good but I wouldn't be using them without the grocery discount.

    • +1

A PAYG add-on is only needed for video MMS. Photo MMS are included in all plans with a 2MB file size limit. What error/notification are you receiving when trying to send photo MMS?

      • It's a fairly generic error under the text that reads something like "could not be delivered". I did consider that the issue might be on my end but it's odd that I get this from Olive bot: https://imgur.com/a/5dDMmXg

I also recommended it to a friend for the discount, who started having the same issue as soon as they ported over.

        • +1

Thanks for the screenshots from Olive, I'll raised it to be fixed asap - with regards to the MMS issue, can you try updating your APN settings: https://mobile.woolworths.com.au/support/network

          • @dm02: I appreciate it, thanks!

I've just followed those instructions, fingers crossed.

            • @Gnosh: How did u go? I have had this issue only when sending to an Android phone from my IOS phone and via 4g not over wifi

              • @Petrup: That sounds exactly like my issue but in reverse. It's hard to say whether this helped, because I don't often send MMS to iOS users. It is working though currently, after doing the network reset.

            • @Gnosh: If it doesn't work raise an issue with the telco ombudsman. Be sure to get a reference number.
Until someone raises and they cope a fine (they cop a small fine for not fixing it X number of compaints)

              • @duckworth: Thanks - will do. Just keeping an eye on it for now.

  • +1

My Telstra reception sucks at the office, better but not great at home.

Telstra said they'd put a "smart antenna" (some booster thing) on our office building at a $2500 cost (lol) to improve their reception to something decent. My boss said it should be free considering he pays for 16 reps unlimited plans.

They agreed but that was 4 years ago and still no antenna.

    • Tight boss.

  • The boost deal where you get 280gb of data for 216 bucks was really sweet.

  • Anyone have issues with porting over from boost?

I’ve heard porting over sometimes can be a mess and you end up losing your number.

    • Woolies core competencies lie in the day-to-day running of a large chain of supermarkets. They make a nice profit doing it, even if your Everyday Rewards occasionally get stolen. Given this substantial experience in managing groceries, it’s perhaps no surprise that mobile network support is something of a hobby

  • +1

Does Woolies get the same network as Aldi? I've been very happy with Aldi, regional Vic, but this 10% offer sounds pretty useful and worth the switch.

    • +1

      Yep. Both Telstra Wholesale.

  • Does it offer unlimited data(at capped speeds after 100gb is used) similar to Telstra?

    • -1

Woolworths Mobile is basically the full Telstra network at your constant disposal, except they leave the odd bit out here and there. You probably won’t notice. If you use all your data, then don’t fret — you can continue to enjoy unlimited free data capped at 0 Mbps. This is great for downloading things you have already saved locally on your device

    • I don't think so.

    • +3

It’s not the same network. Telstra and Boost use the Telstra Retail network. Woolworths, Aldi etc use the Telstra Wholesale network. I think tharlow was making an unhelpful joke. The coverage maps are quite different, especially in rural areas.

      • Just curious. Using wholesale network doesn't have effects on internet up and down speeds right?

        • I think they're capped at 100mbit/s

      • Is there much difference between Telstra Retail and Wholesale network? I'm on boost now and seems like it's not worth the risk porting over with risk of losing my number and getting worse coverage

        • Just port back to boost

          • @RQNinja: I'm already on boost. You mean port to woolworths and if it's not good, go back to boost?

            • @warmfruit: Could do that. Or just keep boost. They got better speed performance. But if you prefer money savings on groceries at Woolies and ok speed and coverage. Woolies are better. In the end you can always transfer back and forth

              • @RQNinja: I might just stay with boost. I read that sometimes porting your number doesn't work and you end up losing your number since it's not with the previous nor the new carrier.

The woolworths one is cheaper and savings on groceries sound good, but not worth the risk I think. I care about coverage but speed isn't an issue since I don't really watch many videos on my phone.

        • Look at the coverage maps and compare them.

  • Please remember to stack with Cashrewards or Shopback (both currently offering $5 cashback) and referral link below ($10 WISH eGift Card), for an additional $15 off, which effectively brings the price down to $125.

Can you stack both a referral code and cash back?

    From Cash Rewards:

You may not be eligible for Cashback:
If a coupon code is used that is not listed on Cashrewards.

And the referral codes are essentially a coupon code. ShopBack says basically the same thing.

    • +1

referral code is entered after activation. doesn't count as a coupon code for the purposes of cashback

      • Good to know. Thanks.

  • Save $25 or rollover 46GB? I've given all that I can.

    • Doesn't sound like you'll need the 46GB. I rarely use my phone for data intensive things without wifi available.

  • +1

FYI: you can often save $20 by using a half-price $40 starter pack toward the 6/12 month plans. e.g. (expired) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/710813

Right now, if you have "Rewards" check for 4500 points offer (targetted?) for $40 starter, = $22.50 off, so $43 for 6 months or $128 for 12 months after points.

    • Could you share how to do this? You buy 2 starter packs ? Do you port in and out again ? Thanks

      • Just one starter. Point is you can activate a $40 starter pack on a long expiry plan, you just pay the difference.

        • The $43 for 6 months deal - the only long expiry plan at the moment comes with 15GB total for 180 days so that isn’t very good if you need more data unless I’m looking at the wrong section?

          • @gym: Sure. It depends if you live on your phone in places with no wifi.

  • +1

Don't hand money over to this rotten operation.

Their rep on Whirlpool has now been telling the world they are getting VoLTE and VoWiFi in 2020, promised this in 2019, it will be there next year. He is lying day in day out.

I have elaborated on this in Woolworths mobile thread on whirlpool forum, and the moderators are in on hiding, that every day capacity is removed from the 3G network. More and more people complain about not being able to make calls, even from their own home, and straight after their posts are deleted to cover this.

Rotten company, go with Boost instead, it just works.

  • When does this SIM have to be activated by?

  • This Rod clown told the world in 2019, we will have volte, vowifi next year. Full of shit, professional liar. 2023 soon, still nothing and still lying.

Don't give Woolworths mobile any money, Boost has what you want, and almost same price if you get their starter packs on special.

    • -1

I wonder what ended up happening in 2020 which would've shifted many, many businesses around the world's priorities? Would you happen to be Lateshift, whose messages were removed for the reasons "personal attack" and "trolling"? Seems to fit in with this reply of yours.

      • So priorities of Woolworths Mobile is to continue to remove peoples abilities to use their phone as a phone!

Nearly every day people post on WP that they are missing phone calls, can't make calls and internet does not work again and again.

One would have be living in a fantasy world to jump on their shit. The so-called rep there tends to disappear for a week or more when people complain.

  • Can I get 2 x 10% of grocery discounts if I purchase and link 2 Sims??

    • +1

Can I get 2 x 10% of grocery discounts if I purchase and link 2 Sims??

Only if you link them to different Rewards Cards
( That are not sharing points etc)

  • How about upgrade plan from 180 days to 365 days plan?

  • Is there a limit on this plan to how much data can be banked through rollovers?

  • if only Woolworths offer international call like Boost…
