  • So that would be $125.10 price-guarantee at Bunnings?

    • -3

did you try to price match at Bunnings yet

      • Nah I got the $99 deal on the 5ah. Super tempted but not getting this.

        Weird reason for a neg.

    Sun 27/7 doesn't sound right

    • +1

Thanks, you are correct. I just copied the end date from the email, lol. Didn't even notice. Changed the description to reflect that.

  • Crikey! I have a mower, blower, line trimmer, and drill in the 18V range. All came with batteries. I had NFI the batteries are so expensive. I'd be up for $380 at regular price to replace the mower set. 😲

Time to investigate aftermarket replacements I think.

    • +9

You know you can recharge them, right 😋

      • +2

I thought the pluggy-inny-things were a phone charger? I threw them straight out as I've got plenty of those. You should see the length of my lawn 😐

    • +2

Yup, Makita (like all the best brands) are expensive, to buy the same cells (Samsung) they use in their battery packs (10 cells per 4, 5 or 6ah hour packs) to repack an old battery will cost you more than you can buy a genuine battery with warranty for.

You have to have had experience with crap cells (Ozito and off brands) to appreciate just how robust and reliable these batteries are, I always charge when 1 out of the 4 LEDs goes out to extend battery life, I live off-grid and use a battery charger that runs off between 7 and 30v DC to charge mine, after 1 LED goes out they show 1/2 discharged, deep cycling of Lithium cells shortens their useful life considerably.

      • Alright, good to know, thanks

    • +1

Tried the aftermarket batteries when unemployed, one caught fire, 4 would not charge out of the box the other 3 out of the 8 are now dead, complete wast of money! charge them when 1 out of the 4 LEDs goes out and they will last for years.

There are some decent aftermarket units, but they are not much cheaper … and Makita claim using any other battery will void your warranty, not sure how they'd know, but just don't do it!!!

lurk here till the good deals turn up.

This wouldn't be the greatest advice for batteries in warm climates / over summer/ fast drain situations (chainsaw, mowers etc). Lithium doesn't like to be charged over 95%, and is especially sensitive to degradation when fully charged and hot (hence they advise not to leave them plugged in).
Your best bet according to the Science (not me) is to use and charge between 15 and 95% capacity. Tough to work out with only 4 leds. I'd say you would be better off between 1 LED and 3 range.
As for cheap cells. I have hammered Aldi and Ozito tools for 2 years (Chainsaw, Angle grinder, trimmer and SDS drill). Still 100%. I believe they are both Einhell made and use Sanyo cells. The amount of work you can get out of a 4ah battery is pure wizardry.

As an FYI, I also have Makita batteries I use on these tools (with 3D printed converters). They are also great. No noticeable difference on power or duration of battery.
I will say the Makita drill itself is much better in terms of torque (I can stall the Aldi drill), the Makita just about breaks your wrist.

  • Paid $598.00 for 4 x 6ah (2x2 pack) (TradeTools) December last year … a Makita authorised dealer, you can get 6ah's on Ebay for about $130 delivered, but no Makita warranty

The best way to get cheap batteries is buy a skin combo with a bonus redemption like this https://www.totaltools.com.au/118931-makita-36v-18v-x-2-dual…

It's $483 and you get the $296 blower, $199 line trimmer, $249 dual rapid charger and $200 2 x 5ah batteries. Resell the skins and charger and you can end up with the batteries free.

    • resell the skin at RRP?

    • Can be sold

      $140 blower
      $120 rapid charger
      $100 line trimmer ?

All in all $120 for two batteries. Not bad, but a lot of hustle.

      • It's not much hustle at all, everything I've thrown up on FB marketplace has been snapped up fast. And depending where you are you can get a bit more for the skins. I listed the double charger for $120 and it sold within minutes and had 4 or 5 commenting NIL before i could mark it sold.

Biggest problem is if you try the skins you will want to keep them lol. Ask me how i know. :)

      • …or sell one battery for $100 and get the second one for $20.

        • Yeah? have you seen what people are asking for second hand Makita stuff? some looks worn and for a few bucks extra you get new with warranty!

Quite expensive batteries. Most 4ah tool batteries are $50.

    • +3

      Don't Think So!!!

Show us? Can't buy rubbish Ozito 4ah Batteries on special 2 packs for less then $70 each, total spend of $140 for batteries that don't! last no matter how careful you are with them!

You can get some cheap non genuine units that catch fire and don't last long at all, complete waste of money … I know from experience!

The below are genuine, not rubbish.

      Cheapest Milwaukee (No Manufacturer/importer warranty)

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/334478501729?hash=item4de078e761…

Best Price I could find on Hikoki (No Manufacturer/importer warranty)

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/125418916782?epid=20032591499&ha…

If you can get us quality 4, 5 or 6ah batteries for any genuine quality tool for $50 … post that here! save us some $

I can't help you if you're unable to use the search function on this very site.

Search 4ah. The best by far are the ALDI ones. Good cells at great value, I've been using and repurposing them for years.

You'd actually be better off buying those with a converter.

        • Yeah, I have some, closest Aldi is almost 1000k from me, and sure they are good for the $, but not pro tools AT ALL! and buying the batteries online ain't value!

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/225006245334?hash=item34636ad5d6…

          $85

        • +4

So when you say "Most 4ah tool batteries are $50", what you really mean is "a single brand of bargain-basement tools have 4ah batteries on special for $50 occasionally"

  • Can't post this deal as there's a previous post that has EXPIRED … Good one Ozbargain!
