Lights allow you to see things when it is dark.
Floor lamps are fantastic for soft lighting when you're watching tv etc and don't want to have downlights beaming down on you like some homes have

You're looking for the term "addressable" meaning each LED can be instructed individually.
More expensive LED are required so I agree, at this price point it doesn't have the circuitry other than blasting a single colour.

Interesting….the one I bought off amazon isn't usb. Just regular plug…so that would be brighter. Feel a bit better now as I paid more for the amazon one lol

@Techie4066: It's hard to find. As some of the cheaper ones don't do white light either. This does all sort of colour combinations and multicolour patterns. Also can do sound activation
@Sammyboy: Does the music sync function turn off the light when a movie becomes quiet? And what colour(s) does it emit? I'm thinking about using one as an extra floor light alongside my Philips TV's ambilight.
@Techie4066: For sound detection mode you can select various patterns. It's completely off when silent depending on mode. Some modes have a low level ambient light. There are 255 modes for this voice mode in the app and it looks like those mode include single colour modes. There are 210 normal preset light patterns on the app. Less on the remote. Can program your own. Also can set it to music on your phone and with that seems like you can pick a colour. The reviews aren't good on Google Play for the app, but it seems pretty good to me

i dont really have a recommend one - they are all generally poop haha.
if you really want, jump on ebay / amazon and search rgb/rgbw floor lamp tuya.
you want something you can cpnnect to tuya smart so you can schedule - it also supports smart schedule eg 7am turn red, 9am turn blue, 60% bright etc.
other 'dumb-smart' apps only let you schedule on/off.
