I had Plugable USB-C dongle, which kinda worked .. until monitor started turning off for few seconds, the dongle could not cope with pass-through charging. Then I realised USBs on the dongle are on 2.0 probably, cannot have 4K@60 and USB3.0 full speed over same USB-C cable. So I said fark it, im going to get Thunderbolt! This is Titan Ridge chipset btw, will work connected to PC over USB-C too.

Comes with 2x (passive?) DP to HDMI adapters. More info

One thing to note on dual 4k60, is that the DISPLAYS themselves need to support DP1.4 too.

Oh, thanks. Source be nice if you have it

    • Thanks for advising, I had been searching for a while but couldn't find a clear answer.

    Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station

I once connected a lightning cable to one of these, it was very frightening…

I'd be more concerned if it was very, very frightening

Did doctors managed to fix you? Curious, lol

  • I have another dock, the UTD23, which constantly has USB issues with my MBP2021(M1 Pro). USB just stops working randomly, it's not the whole connection as display still works as normal. Have to disconnect the cable from the laptop to the dock and reconnect to get it back, very annoying when on a zoom.

Have you found a reliable USB hub? Been on a hunt for one…

    • +2

This is a known issue with all thunderbolt docks. It happened in older versions of mac os. They patched it but it has come back. The alert from caldigit below describes the issue.

      https://www.caldigit.com/thunderbolt-dock-sleep-mode-related…

      • Thanks for sharing, I'll try the steps outlined in Caldigit's knowledge base and see if it goes away.

        • Also worth mentioning…

If a USB device plugged into the dock is a wireless transmitter or receiver (e.g wireless keyboard dongle) the USB3 ports can interfere with the USB device causing it not to function.

This is a known issue and can be remedied by using a USB extention cable to connect the device to the dock.

I considered getting one of these due to the price, but ultimately found myself getting a lenovo docking station (40B00135AU for $334). Pricier for sure, but has been very reliable for work ever since. I run a KVM switch and swap between my PC and my work laptop onto two screens with just a few clicks (KVM to swap inputs and change my monitors from DP <—> HDMI).

i'm looking around too, thats a cheap price for that dock, did you get it refurbished?

      • +1

No, i bought it direct from lenovo website. It was originally $409 and i got a discount from the customer service rep after a bit of questioning about the product. Also my apologies it was 334 + GST so actual price was $368.10 after checking my invoice.

Do note it did come with a 3 week delivery time which may not work for everyone.

    • That’s quite expensive for a dock. I got myself a WD D50 1TB from Umart last week, $399 promotional price, still in box under my desk, yet to try it out. Maybe less connectors but I don’t really need too many. Only Thunderbolt, won’t work with USB.

Wasn’t actually looking for a dock but a good and fast external SSD, just happened to come across the dock + SSD.

  • I think this one with very similar price, also from WAVLINK, might be more bang for the buck functionality-wise:

Yours looks like Apline Ridge, older Thunderbolt chipset.

  • Would this product allow an m1 mac mini to connect to three displays? That's where I'm stuck at the moment.
