Some interesting reviews on amazon about the poor quality of paper used in these booksets and being easily ripped or damaged

Dune 1, and some other books..

    • The series goes form being solid space opera to something very different, especially from God Emperor onwards. I'm not sure anyone has done political and philosophical commentary woven into scifi as well since. The Expanse is like being hit over the head with a well worn crowbar in contrast.

I see Hypernion by Dan Simmons as a fair match but YMMV

          Actually yep, completely agree.

      • Try red rising, although it’s less political, still very space opera

        • A very teen aimed story.

  • To be fair, this exact set is quite well rated on Goodreads - 4.46/5.00 from 1,624 reviews. Although, I have heard the subsequent books aren't a patch on the first. I haven't read any of them yet, but having watched the films by David Lynch and Dennis Villeneuve, I'm pretty keen to go through the series.

I picked up Dune for $3 from one of those Lifeline book fairs. Given the size of the books, you could probably poke around for the others in secondhand book stores while you're turning pages.
