  • Wow feels bad for anyone who bought this msrp

    • Or those who backed the Kickstarter

      • +6

could be worse, could have been a fake kickstarter like so many. but it was legit and that's a win

  • +2

If I get the core, can I buy the numpad and media dock later on? $114 vs $200

    • I believe so. On the info section it says, ‘"Thanks to the modular principle, the MOUNTAIN Everest Core can be easily expanded with optional accessories, such as a removable num pad with configurable shortcut keys or a multimedia dock with a rotary knob (sold separately)"

      • Ah okay, PCCG doesn't seem to have them..,

        • +1
        • Sorry, I re-read this comment and you are right.

It looks like the Everest Media Dock and Numpad are not available at PCCG if you are looking to build your own bundle into the Everest Max Modular down the line, however other accessories like the official PBT keycaps and the Everest 60 Numpad are.

  • Are these any good? Currently running razer blackwidow wireless tkl

    • Being able to hotswap is a game changer. Razer switches really aren't the best.

      • 3 pin though, not ideal

  • +1

    Ordered! Sounds cool!

Thanks for the heads-up. This offer is too good to pass up for me. I ended up getting the Max black speed and black PBT keycap kit.

    • Can you link to the keycaps?

        • Any idea why the black ones are nearly twice as expensive as the themed ones?

          Also 113 vs 114 keys?

          • @AusDaniel: No idea. Full disclosure - I have cancelled my order. Based on some real world reviews there are some question marks about the reliability of the software that runs the Everest keyboards special functions and it is not something I am prepared to deal with if I have the same issue. I don't want to have another iCue situation like I did with Corsair keyboards. Of course the hardware still looks great and my comment should not detract from anyone wanting to buy this keyboard.

  • I also brought this for $299 but I'm still happy with the purchase, tried the Corsair K100 before this.
The mountain has so much better customisability with its dial then the K100. Only downside is that the standard key caps are average molded not double shot, but they are standard mx cross so at this price its still cheap even if buying a good quality set to replace.

Another big bonus I found is that you have USB pass through and still only use one port on the pc.

    • Typed from k100 right now. May I know what's your main reason for switching?

      • +1

I had gotten the optical switches and didn't like the instant activation or reduction of starting pressure (I like to rest on the aswd keys 😅), The permanently attached attached twin tailed cable also annoyed me when I wanted as minimal as possible.
Also as said before the big Corsair button and wheel were pretty much useless in my situation.

Small things but added up for me personally.

Currently using this, and bought it when it was double the price. But it's been great. The only thing I had an issue is with the ticking with some of the stabs and a couple of switches that had bad ping. Let them know and they sent me some lube to relube them and a full bag of switches.

Love it even more after replacing the keycaps and lubing all the switches.

$200 is a steal for a hot swappable unit.

    • By "them", did you contact PCCG or Mountain?

      • +1

PCCG who then talked to Mountain. I also emailed them directly after they put me through to a rep.

  • I had been waiting for mx mechanical keyboard for quite some time.

Got this instead and I don't have to wait anymore.

  • What does hot swap mean? Can replace key caps? Also replace switches? What’s wrong with the existing key caps and why not just buy a keyboard with switches you like?

    • +2

Can replace the actual mechanical switches easily, just plug and play.

So say you buy MX Red switch and you dont like it, can simply buy e.g. Brown switch and swap it in.

      • Aww thanks, guess it is for enthusiasts. I don’t really care about switch and key cap and still need to type on company laptop keyboard at work.

        • +3

The other advantage is if a switch fails, you can immediately replace it; it's a 30 second job. Otherwise, you'd need to de-solder and re-solder, and to do that, you must take apart the entire frame, undo the screws etc. Might as well just get another kb for all the effort.

          • -3

@naturaldecay: Don't see the sense in buying such an expensive KB just so you can do some hot swapping for much more additional costs? Is hot swapping in everything is really all that cracked up to be? lol

            • +4

@pacificstorm: Hmm. I think the best thing is that you can buy a "mixed pack" of 5 or 10 different switches ($20?), and try them in-situ. Retail stores usually won't let you try them out so this is a good way to find your preference. I mean if you know exactly which switch you like, yes, it probably isn't worth it. But there's plenty of $50 kb which have hot swapping- they aren't all necessarily $200.

            • +2

@pacificstorm: Being how swappable allows you to lube the switches, without the need to desolder then and change certain keys to different switches as needed. Eg WASD with a different switch if you game all the time on the keyboard.

  • Thanks OP, I got the Black MX Red version and Obsidian PBT keycaps

  • Is it compatible with Mac? I use keychron k6

  • Does anyone have experience with Silent switches? I'm looking at those or the brown version..

    • No experience but same conundrum as you. Coming from MX Brown I ended up purchasing Silents.

      • Yeh here's a quick comparison I found
        https://youtu.be/Pe9pvTEUDrg

I'm still on the fence, I love my logi mx keys as they are silent and have been easy to game on which I didn't expect.

  • No click and collect option?

  • +1

Ordered Blue switch, just can’t not order them. Given these are lubed, I am hoping they’re as good in terms of feel and click as my Vortex Race 3 and Ducky One 2 Mini SF.

I can’t yet tell, but might replace with Novelkeys Cream if they’re compatible.

Will use the stock keycaps and wait for a deal on some PBTs.

  • Which switches are in order of clicky to silent. Thanks.

    • +1

Switches can be as loud/quiet as you want (excluding clicky switches), your typing style is a main determining factor. Linears aren't always quiter than tactiles. But, in order from loudest to 'quietest':

      Blue, Brown, Speed, Red, Silent.

Blue is clicky, brown is tactile and the rest are linears.

  • Getting "PC Case Gear cant ship to this location" error.

Tried 3 different addresses. Any idea?

    • I've never had this issue, but maybe try a different browser and/or make sure the Paypal address matches the PCCG shipping address you specify when you go to checkout.

  • Woah, great deal for a hot swappable board, let alone the accessories. Good bye black widow v3.

  • From the table, https://www.pccasegear.com/products/54715/mountain-everest-m… is actually the Grey Silent.
https://www.pccasegear.com/products/56283/mountain-everest-m… is the Black Silent, but now Out Of Stock.

Has anyone's order progressed beyond the 'Processing' stage as yet?

    • Nah still waiting too

    • I got dispatch email at 4pm today but the AusPost tracking hasn't worked yet.

    • Same here.
Still on the processing stage as well.

    • Mine has arrived, very happy with the build, silent reds feel better than I expected

Had some issues with the numpad, but after removing the media dock and then replacing the numpad, everything seems to be working well

      • man im still waiting, tracking just says processing still

Managed to price match the MX Red with JB Hi Fi through live chat. Cheaper delivery too.

    • +1

Thanks! JB priced matched for me too - $199.00 + $8 express posted arriving today.

Black MX Brown is sold out.
Grey MX Speed is also available and not on the table yet.

    • Farrout.. wanted black cherry brown..

  • Just received the MX Blue variant - I love it! It is one of my nicer feeling MX Blue keyboards. I think it's because it is factory lubed?

Very happy with it - has a great feel and sound. Only downside is the keycaps, but I'll change them out once they start looking yuck.

  • Just got mine. Mx silent in grey.
Haven't had a real great play around at the moment.
But looks the business. I've been running on a tkl for sometime and actually miss the numpad.
This will be the best of both worlds hopefully

    • Really, thought MX Silent was pink…
If you have a grey one, it might actually be silver i.e. MX Speed?

      • +1

        Soz I meant the frame.
I did get the silent which are very nice. Probs not up to par with the enthusiast crowd but that's not me lol.
It seems good atm, ive used it a fair bit tonight for work and some gaming and I'm happy with it.

I've switched out the keycaps for some doubleshot pudding caps to get some bettter lighting.
Its not as bright as my Apex I was using.

        • Which puddings did you go with? HyperX?

          • @TimeOrMoney: I've got a couple of sets.
The Hyperx, The Steelseries ones (Which I dont recommend) and some generic ones I grabbed off Aliexpress.

I'd have to say the Hyperx are the best out of the bunch.
Its not a super great change as the led is inside where the switches sit, but does make the LEDs brighter.

            • @Noonoo: Ah, that's why I'm also considering the G.Skill Crystal keycaps, which are fully transparent at the bottom where puddings are just translucent. Main downside is that they're ABS.

            • @Noonoo: Do you mind posting a pic with the HyperX puds please?

    • hi-five, got the silent grey one too.

Does yours have a squeaky sound on the backspace key?

      • Yea, only when i press it hard and fast however

  • Just some feedback - really happy with the build. It all feels solid and the custom numpad icons seem to work pretty well

  • +1

Quite like mine - built amazingly (apart from the slightly floppy connection to the numpad - which if you leave it on a desk is 100% fine).
Speed Reds are lovely, albeit I seem to be taking a while to get used to no tactility and seem to be mistyping a little bit. The sound is great. Much nicer to use than blues (or Razer greens). My wife doesn't hate me on the PC any more.
For less money it feels better than my Black Widow V3, albeit the media buttons and software are better on Razer, bloatware aside.

    Cons:
    1. The numbers don't illuminate well as the LEDs must be north facing? Bit hard to see at night. Not critical however, but has frustrated me a few times in the week or so I've had it.
    2. The dial and the way it works is really irritating and quite lacklustre. Having to navigate using the single button interface is laughably bad, and the screensaver function doesn't quite work as expected, eg. You can't set screensaver to the clock, and then rotate the knob on whatever prior setting you had (such as volume). Very frustrating - why would I want to have volume shown at all times as opposed to some other handy info, and override the twist control to not adjust volume???????.
Other minor niggle is the analog clock hands are so thin (~1px) that I can barely read it, so I have to go digital.
Another niggle, if you disable some of the dial options/functions in the software the logos still show on the dial (albeit disabled) - they should just disappear. It's a bit of poor design there which I would imagine would be fairly easy to implement.
Obviously cost cutting to not use the 'iPod' control method of a click of the dial to 'enter'.
    3. PC info on the dial/screensaver doesn't show temps of parts, or fan speeds etc. I suppose it wouldnt be too hard to add this info?
    4. Numpad screen buttons are a bit mushy and don't feel great. I feel like I really have to press them hard, without a nice click. Also wish I could alter the brightness of these individually (or at least separate to the rest of the kb)
    5. Edge RGB lighting is pretty subtle. I actually don't mind it, but from above where I sit you barely see it. It's just a little too recessed between the two plates.
    6. For this (retail) money PBT would have been nice, but the keys are lovely regardless. When they start to wear I'll invest in a new set I guess, so hope compatibility is 100%.
    7. Slightly lacklustre colour modes/combinations compared to Razer, but frankly does what I want it to. Reactive wave/ripple would have been nice.
    8. Can't set MS apps to the shortcut numpad buttons (as they don't use a standard .exe lnk etc.) - Annoying as I would've liked to link Xbox to a button.

    Pros:
    - Easily the nicest switches/lubes/setup I've used. Lovely feel.
    - Great that they included a few different switches to compare for when and if I want to swap
    - Modularity is handy
    - Wrist pad is lovely. Wouldn't have minded one for the numpad however.
    - USB hub is useful
    - Packaging was premium, but perhaps a bit over the top
    - Don't miss wireless at all

Would be keen to see what one of these looks like with pudding keys on it!
