They used to have it in toothpaste tubes in the army rations pack (milk.+ Sugar for your tea/coffee/rum)

      • You can still get it at Coles. They used to sell the coffee+milk tubes as well but not any more. Guess it's not as popular.

      • Oh man the tubes bring back memories. It was always good as a snack on the cream biscuits or if you were crazy like me mix it in with the isotonic drink powders! I liked to think it was rip off sirap bandung despite not being rose.

      • They're still in rat packs currently :)

Great to suck on while on piquet

    2L milk? LOL

Still more expensive than Aldi, Colesworth home brands which are the basically the same.

    • Nah home brands for this are rubbish. Aldi one I haven't tried though.

      • +1

Literally two ingredients, Milk and Sugar, and name brand is made in Spain lol. Home brand Coles is Netherlands and Woolworths is Lithuania, Aldi doesn't say. They are all probably interchangeably sold as premium/cheap depending on your country.

Honestly there is no point buying name brand most things nowadays, it is all made in Malaysia, Thailand, China, random places like Spain or Czech Republic. A lot of the Aldi stuff is Australian still and cheaper because they don't pay for the name.

Different brands can and do taste different. I've done blind taste tests with friends and sometimes there's a clear preference and other times it's split.

There are also people who do more extreme comparisons, buying the cheapest brands and comparing them to the most expensive brands. The difference is larger for some ingredients than others, but there's definitely a difference.

          • @eug: Yep, definitely have a preference for this brand.

            • +1

@ATangk: The channel I linked to above has done a few of those comparisons and they found that dairy was consistently different between cheap vs expensive brands, so it's no surprise I guess.

I've also bought 3 different milk brands at the same time ($1.25, $2.90, $3.30 for 1L) to do a blind comparison. There's absolutely a noticeable difference in taste and creaminess.

I guess it's not much different to how some people are totally satisfied with $50 SoundPEATS earphones while others can tell the difference between Sony WH1000XM5 and Bose QC45 headphones.

              • @eug: I mean… water brands taste different. Using different water will create products that taste different.

Home brand milk doesnt seem to taste as 'creamy' as dairy farmers.

The difference is that nutritionally, these products might be the same. Taste would come down to very minute traces of minerals/impurities which can drastically alter the taste. As for headphones, the spec sheets will differ and its quite easy to see there being a difference.

                • @ATangk:

They all say 20Hz - 20kHz, just like how an ingredients list might just say "Milk". :)

@eug: 100% agree here. I purchase the home brand ones when the Nestle isn't on special. I can definitely taste a difference in the creaminess and flavour. So yeh, it's not about brand snobbery, but more so about flavour preference.
Although I haven't tried the Aldi one so I might give that a go.

        • +1

Check out fat content for starters. They aren't the same, hence they taste different. Anyone who's ever made desserts will know this.

Brand snobbery. Aldis one has exactly the same taste as Nestlé. Probably made by them, most homebrand products are made by the same company that makes the original product

        • +3

Aldi fans seem to convince themselves that its "Probably made by them, most homebrand products are made by the same company that makes the original product".

          Totally untrue!

That claim is made in many Deals. Seems Aldi is able to put these false ideas into the mind of its customers, who convince others. Be careful of what you believe!

There is a definite difference in taste between the Aldi product & this. Bought both many times. Aldi is cheaper & store is closer, so I compromise on the taste.

Maybe you're sense of taste isn't that reliable to tell the difference. Or what you are using the product for disguises the difference.

          • -4

            @INFIDEL: Lol more brand snobbery.

            • @nepalesesquirrel: How - I use all brands. Depends only on what store I am in & what I am using the product for.

Just some definitely taste better than others.
Sadly, some people may not be able to taste the difference! So cheap is best.

Travelling in other countries, learnt most Australians are known for buying on price, rather than quality!! So we have OzBargain😉

Enjoy shopping at Aldi. But don't justify your money saving ways by making false claims that Aldi's products come from the same factories! In my work, I've advised a supplier to Aldi - so know that's not true.

Aldi have products produced by suppliers, that look & taste like the original, but it's still just a cheap copy.
Aldi spend their money on legal costs to defend their copies from the brands being copied.

              • @INFIDEL: I worked in a food manufacturing plant for 12 years and we made certain products, and sometimes only stopped the line to change labels, packaging etc, sometimes up to 4 times during a run so would end up with 4 "different" products from the same actual product.
And yeh I buy Aldi for their quality and value, but if certain products are sh*t I will buy them elsewhere.

                • @nepalesesquirrel: Yes, manufacturers can supply to different markets under different labels. They can also manufacture different products to different quality.

But you have no proof about that with Aldi products.

Rather there is proof that isn't the case.
Read the reports here & overseas (often in media directed to retailers) about Aldi's practice of faking products & the resultant legal cases.
If they came off the same original product's production line - there would not be court cases over "passing off" as the original product!

You are simply deluding yourself to believe Aldi is the same as brand name products, or of high quality. Aldi (fans) certainly did a job on you! But you'll never believe that!!

                • @nepalesesquirrel: Keep in mind that not all products only have one manufacturer. Different products from different manufacturers can, surprise surprise, taste different.

Just because you worked in one food manufacturing plant doesn't mean every single product at Aldi is exactly the same as the brand-name equivalent at Woolworths.

@eug: Oh I was just stating my real life experience, not having a go at anyone or anything. Obviously you guys have a lot of real experience in this field.

IMO Aldi tastes like this brand, Woolies is a close second, but the Coles one comes in dead last.

      • +1

Thanks, happy to buy aldi stuff, most of it is really good quality.

    • Home brands is more runny. Nestle is thicker. Tried both and know the difference so you do get what you pay for. I still go for home brand lol

  • Cheaper at costco but not by much $2.16 works out to be for pack of 6

  • As commented above,
Qualifies as Prime Essential, so 5% off $40 order (with other essentials like Bonsoy & Dolmio on special + possibly S&S discount).

Signed up for free Prime trial..
Received $10 off $39 prime products for "downloading app" already on phone (changed account) - also qualifies.

    • Saved $15 on $45 order. (But only 2 of these!)
