  • how does the new 12th gen i5-1245U compare with i7-1165g7?

The 12th gen i5 apparently have 10 cores?

    • 12th gen comes with performance and efficiency cores.

      • What are they lol

        • +1

2x performance cores, 15% better than 11th gen cores - however there is only 2, vs 4 cores on the 1165g7.

8 low power cores, each with 60% performance of a performance core.

Overall, 2 performance cores isn't enough when performance is needed. Multicore benchmarks that use all 12 threads are irrelevant, that isn't a realistic workload on a laptop.

All the 12th gen U series have only 2 performance cores. Wait for a deal on a 12th gen H series, even the cheapest i5 1250H has 4 performance cores and 4 low power cores, and will be better than an i7 11th gen.

          • @greatlamp: Thanks for the run down.

But it doesn't sound too promising, going from 4 cores to 2 cores and then adding 8 "efficient" cores and calling it 10 cores sounds like marketing ploy

If the memory and storage upgradability isn't a priority, the Yoga 7 Gen 7 is a better buy.

    $1558 with the 6600U + OLED
    $1725 with the 6800U + OLED

    Comparing the specs:

    • CPU: Ryzen 7 6600U/6800U vs i7-1165G7
    • RAM: 16GB DDR5-6400 (Soldered) vs 16GB DDR4-? (Upgradable)
    • Display: 2880x1800, 90Hz, Touch vs 1920x1080, 60Hz, Touch
    • Storage: 512GB PCIe Gen 4 vs 512GB PCIe Gen 3
    • Networking: WiFi 6E, BT 5.2 vs WiFi 6, BT 5.0
    • Biometrics: Windows Hello + Fingerprint vs Fingerprint
    • Speakers: Up-firing vs Down-firing
    • Webcam: 1080p vs 720p
    • Connectivity: 1 xUSB 4, 1 x USB-3.2 Gen 2, 1 xUSB 3.2 Gen 1 vs 2 x Thunderbolt 4, 1 x USB-3.2 Gen 2
    • Warranty: 1 Year Depot vs 3 Year Onsite

Both can fold and come with active styluses. Opting for the 3 Year Premium Care Warranty brings the Lenovo with the 6800U up to about the price of the Asus.

You're an asset to the community! That's a decent side by side comparison, thank you.

I can't seem to see the version you mentioned at the link to the Yoga. Also getting windows professional costs $114 more and it's windows 11.

Speccing up to the 6800U model and to include the win11pro brought the cost to $2,070.14, or I just don't know what I'm doing.

No option for 3 year warranty either. Just the one option of 1 year…

Never mind me, this post explains it. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/711525

Pro Windows still adds $114, but no option for 3yr warranty. New total is $1,800.81 which is still very decent!

        No worries!

Sorry I should've explained the process. I'll explain it for anyone else who may be interested.
Select the $1429 option. Adding the 6800U and the OLED brings it to $1725. Under 'Services', under Premium Care Onsite Support the option 'Three Years +$198' is there which brings it up to $1923 but as you said, that's with Windows 11 Home. Don't forget to check Cashrewards/Shopback for offers.
