$600+ for a Shun? C'mon. I paid that for my handforged Nakiri shipped from Sweden.

:) I know what you know, this is still a great deal in this market lol, correct me if i am delusional.

      • +6

You are delusional, unless this represents some kind of must have aesthetic for you personally.

    • +1

Why was it shipped from Sweden? Does that somehow add to the value? I would have thought shipped from japan would have been more authentic.

      Genuine question

Are these more collectors or do you use them for work?

      • +2

Nakiri is just the knife style, and isn't limited to where they can be made.
I'd assume the maker is from Sweden/Europe.

  • Knife lovers? Michael Myers??

  • Kitchen Warehouse has it for two bucks more, so I guess it's a deal? https://www.kitchenwarehouse.com.au/Shun-Engetsu-Chefs-Knife…

  • +1

Seems really expensive compared to the quality you could buy from japanesechefknife.com etc

  • This is one knife right?

It doesn't walk your dog, drive kids to school and listen to the wife nag aswell?

    • listen to the wife nag aswell

Dude the knife is not that expensive.

  • +5

    Price is just for dual-core.

Imagine how much for an octa-core.

    • Dual-core only in shun-speak. Kitchen knife peeps call this style "coreless" and dismissed as gimmicky. That bad.

  • Holy crap, is this titanium knife . Make sure you hide it from the Mrs when you buy this.

  • +2

This is a bad deal, for this money or even less you can get hammer forged and hand sharpened japanese knife made by a master blacksmith with a much better steel like hitachi carbon steel or sg2 stainless steel. Vg10 is a lower tier stainless steel. So no, this is a rip off.

  • Will my food taste better if prepared with this knife?

  • Would never pay 600+ for a VG 10 knife.

This is a rip off. You could get a Masamoto KS for $600, and that is well more in demand amongst the enthusiast community.

My most expensive knife is an artisan made proprietary semi-stainless HD2 steel by Konosuke and doesnt even cost $600, even though its considered "expensive"….and it cuts much nicer than any VG10 or SG2 steel knife.

    This knife is uuuuuuguhleee
