I bought it last month for $418.51. This is cheapest it's been according to camelcamelcamel https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B091J9WYYG?context=se… The 16TB model has lowest cost per TB compared to the 10, 14, 18TB models. I shucked mine and it was an Exos X16 enterprise drive inside. Enterprise drive on the cheap.

    • I wanted to shuck mine for an enterprise drive. Does the WD Elements have an enterprise drive inside or just a NAS drive?

      • Their usually a white label drive inside, which can be varied. But most people compare them to red labels.

        • I don't want white label. Looked up WD Elements shucking. The drive inside is labelled internal use but don't know what drive it is. I used to get the WD Black 12TB as it had an Ultrastar enterprise drive inside. I'll pay a bit more to get an enterprise grade drive.

          • @Eatslikeacat: The 18TB drives are enterprise drives…

            • @Satirical: It might be a white labelled 18TB WD Red Pro NAS drive. I want the reassurance of a labelled enterprise drive.

16TB Seagates don't take well to being dropped from a desk. They make a funky grinding sound when plugged back in and then hide the contents of what was on the drive.

IT'S A SPINNING DISK!!!!! Of course it's not going to take a drop from a desk without something going wrong.

        Yeah.. tough crowd!

  • I just ordered the "WD 18TB Elements Desktop External Hard Drive"
Does anyone want to go all Vizzini on me and tell me what a fool I am?

Still got a "bargain" 16TB HDD in a box from last year's prime day…

  • I bought 2 of these for about 410$ last months as well, they were exos x18 drives inside. Drives were quite loud.

    • It's an enterprise drive. They're built like tanks and are loud. So looks like can get a lower cost per TB with the WD Elements but it's a white label drive (likely a WD Red NAS drive) vs a Seagate enterprise drive which costs more per TB.

  • Thanks for the heads up. Small bonus cashback - usually computer items are 0%

  • Thanks OP. I opted to buy 2 of these 16TBs for a bit more than the WD 18TBs because I personally have better experience with Seagate drives with large storage capacity. Just a personal superstition now haha
