Yes it's got the newish processor but the form factor and screen (and battery life) are stuck in t2017
I have one of these, and I love it. Granted I paid $320 for it - not almost $600. The form factor and screen are perfectly fine for me, and the battery will comfortably last through a second day if I forget to charge it overnight. But if you're a 'phone enthusiast' and spend a long time on it, probably better forking out for something better.

I can explain.
TouchID is great. I find it more convenient than FaceID - I can add my wife or my kid to the device so they can unlock it too.
The screen size is Ok - bit too big but Ok. Newer iPhones are too big for me (unless you get mini variant).
The new cpu is a bit more efficient so battery life is good in these.
In other words, if you prefer "old" design this is the best "old" iPhone you can get.
