Might want to add original price in title. E.g “…$249 (was $279)…”

what makes this one a lot better than a paperwhite? i've got one and i just use calibre to load on epubs.

I wouldn't get one over the other if you already had a paper white. Screen and form factor are reasonably similar. The only thing the libra 2 has that the kindle doesn't is physical buttons (if you prefer that) and built in overdrive support so you can borrow library ebooks straight from the device. From memory, it's also got a gyro so it auto rotates your screen which I don't think the paperwhite has?

If you like to tinker with your e-reader, it's a lot easier to do so. You can install alternate reader software like Koreader or Plato in kobo fairly easily. If you roll your own book content server, you can also sync with calibre-web wirelessly too rather than needing to sideload it.

My friend has the older version. It has a web browser and can download directly to the device from certain websites. And physical buttons.

      • The web browser is awesome. I use https://send.djazz.se to send books from my phone to my kobo super easily. Even kepubifys them.

        • Cool. Thanks for the tip. My friends were using zlib

Thanks OP and Nick - purchased

Love paperback but thought I'd give an e-Reader a try (finally)!

    • Thank OP / nick - been considering this for a while! Thanks to you I pulled the trigger!

I got it for the pool since it's waterproof, so easy to load and manage books via calibre

    • OK until now I was thinking how are these guys competing when a paperwhiite is about 150, but between waterproof and overdrive support I can see people spending the extra 75 bucks, especially if it's easy enough to use that my Mil can do it

    Eyeing for an ereader.
I am thinking paperwhite for $169 or this at $249. Is having a physical button and 4 times more storage justify $80?

    • +7

Depends on how much you read. I read in bed and find it easier to turn the page with a button vs having to do some awkward swipe or tap the screen. Storage is a non-consideration, books are tiny.

      • +1

I’m the opposite. I 100% prefer the easy swiping that having to press a button.

    • +2

Having used one of the older kindles, and now paperwhite, I really miss the physical button when reading. I'd say given that these should last a long time, go for the button.

The buttons are easily worth the extra.

  • What a pity I missed Kobo clara deal couple of months ago. I prefer smaller device for travelling. This deal is good though. Hopefully JB has upcoming deal for Clara soon.

  • Im after the Kobo forma but am struggling to find it full stop let alone at a discount.

    • +2

struggling to find it full stop

      Not sure how…

      First result in Google
Second result Amazon but more expensive.

      • Thanks, I last searched a little while ago and I couldn't find it. I'll have a look.

  • Does anyone has any tips in converting pdf into epub using calibre? I have a management book (most are txt, with some are images), somehow the result not as good as I would have hoped. Thanks

    • +2

It's generally advised against, you're unlikely to achieve great results.

Epub to PDF can be done easily, but it's not easy to reverse.

  • lmao, neg revoked for saying it's cheaper elsewhere as mentioned above (neg vote gives more awareness). Sympathy for a first-time poster I guess.

    No deal here, cheaper elsewhere.

  • I paid $236 total on ebay thanks to nick
