Apparently the 2022 x90k models are not thay much better and k models are way more expensive this year.
Maybe i didn't watch enough reviews so i could be wrong.

    • +1

      Correct

    • +2

Also I believe the 2022 model remote does not have all the keys, shortcuts, and numeric keys like the previous model

I hate the Samsung remote (and also the Samsung Os) and Sony remote was one of the good ones.

      • +1

Thanks mate, makes me feel better on the purchase. I bought the X90J 75inch.

  • I had one new in box. Wife made me go for the Frame. I was selling that one for 2200 and people told me this TV will go for under 2k in EOFY sale. Finally I found someone that bought it for 2200 but these sonys aren't going down a lot. I was lucky enough to get the edu store deal.

    • +1

Yeah I missed the edu deal :/

Was expecting them to drop but haven't seen much action on retail

      • +1

        $1879 :D

        /brag

        • damn well done! how did ya get it for $1879? I got it for $1979 (before $35.98 cashback)

          • +1

            @daemon: Amex $100 cashback

            • +1

@Danstar: ah right, I'm pretty sure I checked at the time but didn't have the offer

still very happy with this tv for < $2k!

    • -1

The frame model is a silly TV. Lol

      • +3

It is actually pretty cool, especially considering the package. But it's still more like a picture with TV function. So I ended up with 65" X90J..

      • +1

I won the bigger battle. Getting one of the rooms converted to a dedicated HT room. And the frame isn't that bad for the living room. Does everything I need it to do and looks pretty sick right up against the wall.

        • Strategic mastermind here! Hope the home theatre room is cool

      • +1

The frame model is a silly TV. Lol

I actually looked at one today and thought is was a great idea. Not everyone needs super-stupid-hi-ultra-mega-definition or whatever. Frankly I don't watch much TV so I'd prefer some nice artwork in my living area over a huge black rectangle all day.

  • +7

Can't recommend Sony with all their quality control and warranty issues, failing to honor the Gov consumer gaurantee etc.
Not gonna repeat it all again here, but do you research thoroughly.

    • +3

I agree however imo worth the risk.

    • +3

Definatly agree i got a 4k TV bout 4 years ago and regretted it ever since. Sony have lost the plot.
      Dead pixcels
      Bad light bleed
      OS sooooo slow
oh and it just restart when ever it feels like
oh oh and it losses sync with my PC and I have to reset to Res on the PC and back to fix it.

      • +6

I'll never understand why ppl neg comments where others are sharing THEIR experiences… in any case, here's mine kids. Feel free to neg it too!

Bought the 75X90J in December, image quality started to drop but it was so gradual it took me a while to notice. Then one day I'm watching Saving Private Ryan and I noticed the uniform of the soldiers in the middle of the shot were greener than the others.

The green began to be really noticeable on anything in the centre of the screen on any dark scenes. Then on any scene!

By then, it was May and the eARC had stopped working as well so I contacted JBHifi and then pointed me to Sony's warranty centre. Tech came over to check my issues, confirmed then and replaced EVERYTHING on the TV except the feet, back cover and speakers. I kid you not. New screw, processor board and etc. The lot.

Had to redo all the setting up but it ridiculously obvious how much better the image is as whole now. It's like I upgraded to different model no joke!

TL;DR - TV screen was a bit sh#@$ and so was eARC, tech replaced so many things made me wonder why not just give me a new TV instead.

        • +2

And I came here looking for something similar. I’ve observed dead pixels on all four corners since day 1 - but off late (16 month old 7590H) I’m seeing a bigger dark spots beyond corners. Hoping to get this done on warranty although I’m a tad out of 12 months warranty.

          • +2

            @DealKing87:

I’m a tad out of 12 months warranty.

Absolutely irrelevant, ACL has you covered. An expensive TV should last a lot longer than 16 months.

      • at least it's not like Samsung which I didn't even get 3 years out of before it developed black backlight spots all over it and died.

    • +1

been researching for a while and it seems like Sony is the way to go unless you are buying OLED.

      • +5

I would argue the Sony A95K is the best OLED TV.

      • This TV just arrived, it’s my second TV along with a c9 oled. The TV honestly looks very bad when watching movies at night. Even during the day, the colours are just so bland, and its reflections are terrible too. I don’t get why this is so expensive

        • Def. sound like you need to change the settings. Mine is so bright sometimes when I'm in another room I think I've left the light on in the lounge room the TV is in

          • @Danstar: Yea I adjusted to RTINGS config recommendations, added in the dynamic local diming to medium which they had off. Set to dark room picture mode as anything brighter and it couldn't even resemble anything black.

    • +1

No idea why this was downvoted. My tv died just out of warranty. Spend months trying to get them to do something. They refused. Internet is full of the same stories.

      Never buying Sony again.

      • +5

I mean, could say the same about any company right? My MacBook Pro back in 2012 developed the kernel panic fault and was 2 months out of warranty. I tried for months to peruse a resolution with no success, all I got was "it's out of warranty, $880 excluding GST to repair". Haven't bought an Apple product since.

        • Usually just mentioning "ACCC" makes them think twice

        • +1

          Something strange…
Even before ACCC was introduced, Apple repaired for free (replaced keyboard and screen bezel) for my 3.5 years old MacBook Unibody.
2.5 years ago they replaced my 2 years old out of warranty MacBook Pro's screen in 3 hours without any questions.

          • +1

@Cupa Bundy Drinker: Apple can be good for their customer experience. I remember smashing my iPhones screen and Apple store replaced phone for free

      • You better also avoid LG, Hisense and Samsung.

    • +3

failing to honor the Gov consumer gaurantee

What are you talking about? ACL is law so if a vendor is not abiding by that law then you have courts that can force them to comply with it.
Honour plays no part in the process.

      • +1

Exactly, go to Fair Trading at no cost and they'll budge. Samsung did so after promising a refund to me.

        • +1

Exactly, go to Fair Trading at no cost and they'll budge. Samsung did so after promising a refund to me.

I had the same thing happen with JB Hifi. The store nerd refused to refund me for a faulty phone so I went to fair trading and only then did they decide to cooperate.

Know your rights. and know how to enforce them.

          • @1st-Amendment: Had the same happen at my local Retravision.
I got my money back, then was told I'm barred from the store.
"Our business together is done and your are not to come in here again, you are barred "
Yeah, I stood up and knew my rights and pushed my rights and (eventually) got refunded for faulty fridge.

  • This item is only available for pickup. No stock near me.

    • +1

"It says pick up only, however, I contacted my local TGG and the price matched the commercial store + delivery." call the other stores? see if they can deliver

  • +8

It's been this price since late April. I didn't post as I thought it would get negged after the $1979 student deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/692619

    • +3

that's good, we have to stick to our principles and i appreciate you letting us know it's been this price for a while.

it's either lowest price ever or no deal.

      • +5

Give this man an OZB badge.

    • +1

Thank you for pointing it out. You deserve a Gold Badge.

  • +2

This price has been for a quite a while. Unfortunately Sony refused to price match TGGC during their 10% cashback and I bought 65" one from Costco.

    • not public knowledge though,

    • +1

I can confirm that they refused price match for me. I ended by not getting a Sony 65" and instead opting for a LG 75". Sony stuffed me around too much with the price match and I lose confidence in them. YMMV.

  • How do people get a GG commercial account? Is that something that anybody can get?

  • I've been using The Good Guys Commercial for several years already, purchased a lot of stuff, but still not sure in one thing. Am I still subject of The Australian Consumer Law when buying through them? (Basically if the TV fails a month after the warranty ends, will they fix it?)

    • +1

I normally just get it price matched in store and buy from regular TGG channel.

    • GGC is available to millions of regular consumers through their Superannuation fund. I think it could be argued pretty easily that you are still a consumer and not a commercial buyer, and thus ACL should apply.

      • +1

I get it as part of my isc2 membership.
As far as I know, the Australian customer guarantee applies.

    • +1

Yes, you are. Any good purchased for less than $100,000 has ACL consumer rights. (It used to be $40,000)

  • Damm I bought it for 2550 2 weeks ago, including delivered from TGG. Well…it's not much difference .

  • +1

Been waiting ages for the 65 to go on sale and it never seems to. 75 is overkill for the space I want it in. Any other brand/model suggestions? it seems Sony is the best if you don't want oled(burn in scares me still).

    • I feel like my parents Samsung 90b is way better than this. And even then, the Samsung is much worse than my old c9 oled. Much worse.

  • +5

FWIW I walked into JB a few weeks ago and asked if they would match TGG commercial. They beat it without me even asking.. 2359 delivered

    • +1

Likewise. About a month ago I walked in and asked them to match the Sony 75" X85J at TGG Commercial at @ $2113, and I wanted a swivel centre stand for it. Guy said sure, matched the price on the TV and gave me $40 the stand without asking. I did pay for delivery on top.

I was amazed that the TV was delivered by one guy - he carried it in by the straps. The boxed TV was about 1750x1200mm and weighed 45kg - not just the weight but a very awkward size and shape.

  • -4

Just a few months ago I got the 75inch for $1950 off the Sony student sale.

  • +4

I own 55 version and wanted to share that recent update made this TV even more awesome.

Local Dimming and Peak Luminance (features that makes contrast better) are now usable in VRR mode. No other LED tv can do this as far as I know.

    • So struggles with dark scenes and even just movie black bars. A decent improvement, trying to do better with blacks.

  • +5

VRR with local dimming update (came out last week) made this from a bad gaming tv to one of the best gaming LED tvs on the market

    Almost a 180 flip

4k 120hz + vrr + local dimming = near oled experience at half the price and 0 burn in risk

    • I bought this after everyone said it’s near oled. It’s not. No where near it at all. I bought my 65” c9 for $2400, and it’s insane that this TV is this much yet so poor.

      • Seen all your comments have been about how bad it is.

Sounds like you either have a faulty set or you haven't looked at any of the settings

        • Spent all last night mucking around with it, initially set it to the Rtings recommended settings, then added in motion/local dimming which they did not recommend, and it makes it much better IMO, but still way way way behind my c9. You can see the local diming zones light up in dark areas with loads of bleed. I did a bunch of tests with youtube tv testing videos to show local diming control etc, and it all seems to be working as it should, but it's just so bad compared my C9. And blacks are not black at all, they are just very dark shades of grey. Compare it to other reviews and this seems accurate. The only times it's black, is when there is nothing on the screen at all, and no backlighting. I just can't believe it cost more than my C9 is all.
And really it sucks that all these people here say it's so great, and compares to OLED etc etc.

          • @onlinepred: I don't have an OLED to compare it to; but for me it's A LOT better than any other 4K TV I've had (Low - to mid level Samsungs & TCL)

            • @Danstar: Yea it's MUCH MUCH MUCH better than my old edge lit LCD that's for sure! But in no world is it even comparable to the C9, and frankly people should stop saying that on this sub. I bought it as a second TV, to hook my PC up to, but also it's a brighter room, and everyone was saying how great LCD is for bright rooms. This is handles reflections so poorly, that the benefit of brightness is mostly a moot point, as the C9 is actually watchable (albeit washed out with so much light). I guess if you don't watch dark movies/tv shows (literally with dark scenes), then you may not ever notice.

  • +1

Big TVs appear to be the only thing coming down in price lately.

  • +1

been at this price for last 2months on TGGC. Still a good buy though.

  • Don't be livin' in any part of Au that has small flies (gnats, mosquitoes etc), one may get in, which they can due to poor design, they wont cover it under warranty!

    • lol you realise literally every led tv has vents to dissipate heat right?

Or are you talking about the glass panel?

again can happen to any tv as well

  • I paid $2295 for this middle of May. Granted it was part of a large purchase but shouldn’t be too difficult to negotiate better than this price.

Good value TV by the way.

  • +1

Jbhifi has 55 inch Sony a80j OLED and x90k LED HDR both at $1836.

Which one to go for gaming and movie experience?

    • well now im salty,

Thank god i didn't pay 2999 like I was the other week though LMAO

  • Darn I am still using x95h. Feels so old

  • I think this will be $2k in no time

    • +3

it’s discontinued so this is last stock

  • +1

I bought it 2 weeks ago from TGGC for $2415+55 for delivery. still no stock as they claim. Would I be able to cancel it and get it at JB or HN?

    • cancel, call local stores and see if they deliver.

      • damn, i didnt know the promo ended! thanks anyway
