    Note:
"*$5 credit ON YOUR FIRST RECHARGE"

Technically, it's just another annoying marketing gimmick to lure consumers into switching to Dodo.

  • ALL advertising by everyone, is a gimmick..

But The MAGIC sim is free.

The $5 credit is not really free, you have to purchase a recharge to get that. So your description is slightly wrong, it's only the SIM that's free. And while they can spam you (as can anybody who gets your email address), what they really want is to get you to buy a recharge after you get the SIM and hopefully stay on. So you also misunderstood the motivation of this campaign.

    no, it isnt.

the sim card is entirely free and you do not need to recharge.

It's your grammar that's wrong. Your title can be read as both free. It's only the SIM that's free.

  • how easy is it to port out of dodo? Do they use the optus network?

  • "We're having trouble processing your application online. Please call 13 dodo (13 36 36) for assistance"

Edit: Did not work with my work address, worked with my home address.

  • title should say "Bonus $5 upon recharge of new 'Magic' sim card"
Desc should say: Sim card is free, however in order to get $5 bonus credit,a recharge is needed.

    Hows that for clarity?

that said… you must be one sad bugger to sign up for dodo spamathon just for that 5 bucks.

yay! free $2 sim card :P
i actually have two phones, one of them using a never-been-recharged $2 sim card just to receive calls.

Dodo has credit expiry, no good.

    • Don't they all? Or do you actually mean no rollover?

    • Basis= my experience 4 years ago

      • We've been with them for broadband for near-on 10 years and have never received any spam from them.

  • $100 per year minimum if you don't want it to expire.
Call costs seem reasonable though. It will be good for someone I suppose.
I actually need a SIM for a GSM dial-in setup in my home automation/alarm system. I think TPG still offers a $1 per month plan and the cost rates are around the same if I recall correctly.

    • Is that because there's no rollover (can't work it out from their website) and you have to buy $100 for 365 instead of $10 for 60 = $60 for 360? In that case Amaysim have a better plan, similar low rates but allow rollover so the minimum spend is $40 for 360 (using recharge voucher, not online).

The $19.95 unlimited looks like a better deal…

    • no, it's only for starter pack, after 30 days you have to pay regular price.

      • at which point I might be porting to telstra's $10 packs which seem to be on special every now and then…

  • Get a unactivated few starter packs then!
